I'd avoid a TN if you're worried about color quality.
Unless you have a colorimeter, getting a dell ultrasharp is likely your easiest path to a color accurate monitor. You'll want an IPS or VA monitor for good colors and TNs will color shift drastically off-center

I'll look into that as well.
Before I lost my job, I was going to see if I could get an old monitor from work before they moved offices, but that's out of the window. I might try a pawn shop, but I'm more than likely buying a new monitor. I'm scouring Newegg now for a good price. If anyone knows any other sites, I'd appreciate it.

"offer up" is a good source (just got a $400 gaming chair for $40 from an angry mom lol), a lot of monitors that don't work are because of capacitors, which are pretty easy to replace too if you have something to solder with.

AMD has delayed the release of its 16-core Ryzen 9 3950X processor by two months to sometime in November. The company wants to meet "strong demand" for the highly parallel CPU, the company said in a statement to AnandTech. In short, it wants to be sure there's enough supply to justify a release. There is an upshot to this news for enthusiasts, though. Source
3950X delayed. But with the controversy regarding some of the reviews and chips already out, is it really a demand/production thing as stated? I already have the 3700X so I'm not looking to purchase this or the threadripper variant any time soon.

I wish I had a good way to learn more about PC building info, I just want something I can fit into a backpack for travel, and I'm not sure if a mini ITX size is necessary for that it if maybe I could squeeze more or a mid tower size in if it's smaller...
Maybe I should just suck it up and buy a prebuilt miniITX for simplicity's sake. Of course I won't be buying anything for a few months so at least I'll have time to agonize over hardware choices in the meantime.

People who preordered 3900x's are not getting their CPU's shipped possibly until 4+ months postlaunch because AMD never shipped them to retailers. The #1 online retailer in the UK raised price to ~$100 over MSRP before closing orders altogether because they simply don't have enough CPU's on the way to fill existing orders, let alone new ones.
Software side is still screwy both for AMD and Microsoft. Threadripper 3 is launching with only 24 out of 64 cores available.. no surprise that it's delayed :D

I got mine for $315 or so, so I'm not upset. But if I had to wait another 2-3 months, I'd probably flip a bit as well. I hope to have this build done by the end of the month and post some pictures.

Hard to say what goes on over there :D

Really it's up to the ratio of chiplets that make the cut for EPYC top bins vs 3900X. Even guesstimating that anything above a 7552 (48 core EPYC) requires a 3900X level chiplet the cost/chiplet is:
7702P ($553) 7552 ($671) 7642 ($795) 7702 ($806) 7742 ($869)
They make a ton more money per EPYC die in comparison to 3900X, so it sucks for the average prosumer, but they're getting shafted for the sake of AMD's revenue sheets. Even the bottom end 32 cores are ~500/chiplet.
My guess is that AMD's ramped up orders from TSMC immediately after launch seeing how high demand was, but cycle times are in the order of 3-4 months now (https://semiengineering.com/battling-fab-cycle-times/) so even if TSMC has spare capacity, it'll be mid-October before the first batch of extra chips is out, and late October/early Nov before they're available for consumers.

3D modeling, namely Zbrush, Maya, and the Substance Suite.

You could look at the build Lmui picked for me and see if you can exchange the parts for miniATX. I'm learning it all again myself, but I think it's possible (the gfx card will be your biggest concern I would reckon). Parts

ITX could work.
There's essentially no boards with USB flashback so you either pick a B450 and use AMDs bios program or get a X570 ITX board for twice the price....
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/jCwLrV
The NZXT H210 has these dimensions: W: 210mm H: 349mm D: 372mm (with feet)
An ATX build with for example, a Fractal Design Define C (compact ATX case) 413 x W: 210 x 453 mm and for mATX - Define Mini C: 210 x 412 x 413 mm
There are smaller cases available like the one below, but you're running into more restrictions as you shrink:
https://www.newegg.com/p/N82E16811112408 for instance 160mmx274mmx242mm
You start having to find smaller CPU coolers (ex. buy a 3600 so you have the wraith stealth so it fits) Smaller GPU - length is an issue so you'd have to go down to a 1660Ti or equivalent etc.
Gotta just pick what you want to prioritize.
Edit::
Thinking about it, if you're waiting a few months, just wait for a B550 ITX board. No reason to get a B450 at that point.

It seems doable to get good hardcore parts into a miniITX, I'm mostly looking into double checking if anything could be changed from something such as
https://techbuyersguru.com/2000-ultimate-mini-itx-gaming-pc-build
I'd definitely want more RAM and to switch to a straight i9.9900K, but I admit being a little unsure whether or not this would be an ideal build with even those adjustments if they are doable (which I imagine is mostly only in question due to the RAM sizes.)
But I really want high end parts because my current i7.6700K and GTX1060 give me performance issues that'd I'd enjoy working without.
EDIT: There was also this build
CPU - i9.9900K Motherboard - Gigabyte Z390 AORUS Pro WiFi RAM - Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro DDR4 3200, 32GB GPU - ZOTAC Gaming GeForce RTX 2080ti Twin Fan 11GB SSD - XPG SX8200 Pro 1TB NVMe Case - NZXT H200i Mini ITX PSU - Seasonic SSR 850PX CPU Cooler - NZXT Kraken M22 120mm
My reason for the size is that I want to fit it into a backpack for travel because I don't even vaguely trust an airport to handle nice technology
|
I get what you mean. I don't plan on traveling with my computer but if I find myself in that situation, I'm gonna wrap it in a blanket and pad the hell out of it. That's my only option if I'm moving/flying somewhere that I need to bring it with.
|
They break it or even worse they lose it... The thought of any expensive thing not being directly in contact with me for a flight makes my skin crawl, especially technology...
|
lol trust me I know. When the PS3 came out, I was flying with that as carry on everywhere. Never left my sight. I'm just saying that if I had absolutely no other way, then I'd have to do what I have to do. Luckily I don't ever see myself needing to fly with it for work.
|
And if you travel a lot with your PC, a laptop might be a better idea, unless you really need all of the power. They are designed to be portable, and you can use them on your flight to do stuff.

I have a laptop atm, it's the one with an i7.6700K and GTX1060, it's about three years old and it's been mostly good but the GPU feels bad for some of what I'm doing and I figure it's worth looking into MiniITX as an option over another hulking 10lb laptop (which can definitely still fit a 2080 in it.)
Plus the ability to just upgrade parts as necessary more easily than a laptop would be nice, granted I've never built a normal computer before let alone one that tries to cram as much into a small space as it can
