edit: seems stable, thanks everybody.

edit2: NOPE. Shuts my internet off about 30 seconds into a call, though it works otherwise. More things change the more they stay the same? :S

Does your internet stay fine if you don't call, so just using the instant messaging?

While it wouldn't make much sense since it works on other computers, I'd still try bypassing the router just to see if it's router-related. (you never know, maybe somehow other computers are given DMZ or something as unlikely as that seems). Many routers also have logs which will probably give you some information on the nature of the disconnect. Also, while you said no to 3rd party firewalls, what about Windows firewall? is it maybe not possible for Windows Firewall to even cause problems? It's a somewhat nonsensical shot in the dark, but maybe your computer is sending more packets than other computers on your network due to being a faster machine, hence the router shutting down. Or maybe your computer running skype is the straw that broke the camel's back. Maybe other computers are using significant router resources. Lastly, maybe there's a virus somehow using Skype, or reacting in a bad way with Skype? Just throwing shots in the air here.

I also edited my post to mention that routers typically have logs which might help you a bit.

Obviousy, it may be a difficult task if your computer s using wireless and is far away from the router. You might find a log entry helping you in your search for a solution. Your networking device on the motherboard also has its own bunch of settings you can tweak. One of the options might be the cause of the problem. Here's an example from this PC: http://i.imgur.com/P5qKqEB.png Search Google for a hint about that with the name of your specific network device or manufacturer's name or name of the board. You may also find newer Windows drivers on the network device manufacturer's page compared to the website of the motherboard you have. Newer drivers might fix your problem.

He means plugging your computer directly into your modem or phone line where the router is connected to. This may or may not be possible depending if you have a hybrid modem/router device and where this is situated. I have an unrelated idea, but have you tried any other video/call or instant messaging service and had similar issues?

Go to start(windows button) and type in Windows Update, and change it from automatically update to download updates but install manually. Since Skype is now a microsoft product it will run through windows update, you can disable that but you have to choose it in windows updates specifically.

The Peer Name Resolution Protocol service terminated with the following error: %%-2140993535 Thats what I got through event viewer when I tried to use skype. I only got one hit that had specifically to do with my issue [there seems to be, I suppose, a few different errors related to Peer name protocol and a view different solutions] and it involved downloading a file thats link is now expired. ![]()

![]() edit: fuck sakes, no it doesnt. I thought it worked because I could receive and give messages, as well as call, however it just drops like a minute after connection now, as opposed to ten seconds. So it gave the brief ILLUSION of functionality to me. Now my event viewers message has changed, to this: Source: Application hang The program Skype.exe version 4.2.0.187 stopped interacting with Windows and was closed. To see if more information about the problem is available, check the problem history in the Action Center control panel. Process ID: 1340 Start Time: 01ce8cd7d0679efe Termination Time: 7 Application Path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Skype\Phone\Skype.exe Report Id: Also, source: Windows Error reporting Fault bucket , type 0 Event Name: AppHangB1 Response: Not available Cab Id: 0 Problem signature: P1: Skype.exe P2: 4.2.0.187 P3: 4c7f99c9 P4: 3eb5 P5: 6144 P6: P7: P8: P9: P10: Attached files: C:\Users\will\AppData\Local\Temp\WER7CD7.tmp.appcompat.txt C:\Users\will\AppData\Local\Temp\WER7D07.tmp.WERInternalMetadata.xml These files may be available here: C:\Users\will\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\WER\ReportArchive\Critical_Skype.exe_e94ebbea142a7fc2b5c5e6f2fab6aec8adadf66_15568aac Analysis symbol: Rechecking for solution: 0 Report Id: 49bed0ea-f8cc-11e2-a302-902b3431eda6 Report Status: 1 Time for me to begin searching I guess :S. edit: pretty sure this is just the consequence of me crashing my skype in rage that it cut out my internet and isnt directly related to any issue with my skype, if thats the case I dont really have any message in my event view that pertains to the issue anymore. edit2: fixed it for real this time, deleted some i.e cache bullshit.
