Hi everyone,
I'm going to Korea for 1 year in a few month and I can't bring my desktop PC so I was trying to figure out a way to play games, and run software (like TeamSpeak) that are not installed by default in PC bang. I have a friend who is actually in Korea and he told me that you can install what you want but you have to re-install it every time, which is possible for TeamSpeak but not really a solution for Dota 2.
So the only solution I came up with was to install TS and the games I want to play on an external hard drive, but I don't know if it's a viable solution. I tried to search on google but I found very mixed responses. Some says it's better on a usb key (because of flash memory), some says usb speed rate is not enough. I also read that if you install something on an external hard drive it will not run well if you go on a different PC (and you can't be on the same PC everytime at a PC bang I guess). So does anyone have any experience with that ? Or an other brilliant solution ?
My goal are mainly to play Dota 2 and go on TS. I would also like to play solo games which are gonna come out soon (like watch dogs :D) if possible. Maybe with the new Dota tournament by gomTv the game will be installed by default on some PC bang...
Anyway, thanks for help.
PS : sorry if my english isn't perfect, it's not my first language.

You can just copy and paste Steam anywhere, there's no installation necessary.
USB 2.0 is too slow and you're going to get stuttering depending on how much the game has to access the drive. But USB 3.0 is fine.

Yea but just copy and paste steam may take some time, I'll have to see. And I don't know if their PC will have USB 3.0, but you think that with 3.0 I can play directly on the hard drive ? I suppose it have to be a hard drive with a power adapter ?

Wouldn't the pc bang have dota 2? I know that there is an upcoming tournament with millions in prizepool in korea so it is possible that they have it installed. Or you can buy a laptop and play it on that.
|
Yea I think they will slowly begin to have it. At the moment, my friend who is in korea told me that they don't have it tho But I also wanted to know if I could run other games, like recent game, so a laptop isn't really an option.

HDDs are not fast enough to saturate USB 3.0 so yes you can play directly off of it.
|
Ok and do you think that it has to have a power adapter ? Also is playing on different computers gonna be a problem ? I read somewhere that it may cause errors tu run a software installed in an external hardrive on a different computer that the one it was installed with.

It depends on the software. I haven't tried Dota2. Not sure about power adapter.
