I've had the same problem several times during campaign play. The video freezes but everything is still going on in the background, if you go 1 A you'll hear units responding and so on.
I think there is a problem with the RAM gestion of the game. SC2 takes a LOT more ram than before. I only have 4gb and play on medium settings, and I've got 90%+ ram usage when playing sc2 which shouldn't be so high. I had the same RAM usage when playing the HOTS campaign on extreme (my computer is more than capable of going so, I5 2500 and GTX560ti).
I will try to reinstall to see if it fixes it. Maybe one day Blizzard will actually put the effort to update and optimize their engine x_x
Edit : Well, reinstalled and it's still using stupid amounts of ram. Will edit again if it didn't fix the freezes :<

you have to tab out and in, its by nearly everyone (i have in in campange in nearly every video ...) frustrating

Still froze after reinstall. Tabbing in an out doesn't work in windowed fullscreen, however ctrl+alt+tabing than coming back into the game does.

I have this issue too. I don't think it's RAM unless it's leaking badly. I have 16GB main memory and 2GB VRAM and it happens to me quite a bit in the campaign, but only once in multiplayer so far. I play on Medium at 1920x1080 and it still happens.

I get the same problem but in multiplayer with a lot of units. It doesn't unfreeze, but I can pause the game and hear the sounds...

Hi i had this issue with league of legends on my geforce 285 for a while. (screen freezes ctr+atl+del and going back to the game fixes it)
I don't wanna be the bearer of bad news but after playing campaign allot my gfx kinda died on me and i had to get a new one (decided on 660 TI) since i replaced the card all freezes have disappeared. so if u have a chance try a different gfx card for your setup.

Some people seems to fix it by going from windowed full screen to complete full screen mode.
Someone else posted as new nvidia upgrade patch fixed this.

Have you guys tried disabling desktop composition when launching SC2 as well as turning off Windows Aero?
