Bitrate/quality is not really tied in to game performance at all, AFAIK fraps and other programs will give you pretty much identical performance at X resolution and Y FPS (without being influenced by quality settings i mean) so unless you are lowering framerate and fps you shouldnt be able to tell the difference ingame, its just about how the output looks

Whelp, looks like I have more testing to do then . I appreciate you telling me that, I always thought it was different.

Im using OBS for my stream. Sometimes I get huge FPS drops even if I got the settings on very low quality.

My PC:

8G RAM
Nvidia GeForce GTX 670
INTEL CORE i5-2500K CPU @ 3.30GHz

My Internet: http://www.speedtest.net/result/2396991789.png

My problem is everytime I start my stream I get massive "dropped framerate". For example Dota2 or League of Legends it's almost impossible for people to watch just because of the fps drop. I got 5/10 in "Quality" and 1500/1500. Is it my computer that is too bad or ? Thanks in advance!

Which settings do you use? Resolution, FPS, CPU Preset, etc.
No, your PC should be able to stream 1080p. Try 2500/2500, 1080p, Preset veryfast, Quality 8/10 and 30fps.
If you have dropped frames, try another Twitch-Server, I had this problem this weekend too.

Got some problems with my OBS, when I use the 32bits it tells me I need 64 for some games and when I use 64 it says I need 32, how come?

Had my first night of streaming with OBS tonight, went incredibly smoothly at 720p60. I have to say I'm very impressed.

Thanks everyone who is working on this, you guys do an amazing job. Not turning back to Xsplit any time soon.

Does OBS support audio pass through via HDMI in a dual-pc stream setup? Need to have my streaming PC pickup the audio via HDMI for my stereo mix and my USB Mic. My avermedia card can receive the audio feeds from windows settings "listen to device" but I couldn't get OBS to receive the audio from the cap card video feed.

got my audio working.

Does OBS support network video sources? Only way I know how to get my webcam onto my stream is skyping myself from my gaming PC (webcam hooked up here) to my streaming PC and I don't want to have to do that..

edit: doesn't look like OBS supports RTMP sources.. Any workarounds besides the skype thing and screen region?

I adjusted so my settings are like the ones you suggested. How do I switch twitch server ? I will try stream some tonight and see how it goes. The thing is when I for example streaming league of legends it kinda "hacks", it's not lagg but it runs for couple of seconds maybe then just stopps... then keep doing that, it's really wierd.

Thanks for the answer tho! VERY appreciated!

Yes.

Here are some settings:

Resolution: 1280x720 (downscaled)
Fps: 60
Bitrate: 600
Buffer: 650
Preset: medium

That should be fine. Won't look amazing, but you'll be able to see at least something.

Yes you can stream, but at a limited quality, I have almost the same specs as you do.

Medium at 60fps on a 2500k@4.5ghz is a no, you are talking at an over three times increase in load compared to Veryfast.

Id do Medium@1280x720@30fps or just use Faster @ 60fps.

Slow if you want to use 960x540@30fps, which i would reccomend for such upload, i have similar.

Tweak bitrate/buffer til you get something that works well for you, every 50kbit is pretty important when you are so limited.

Dont mess around with presets in general or lower further if you dont know exactly what you are doing and know how to test things correctly, dropping 1 preset is oftentimes something like doubling CPU load and you need your stream to be stable through worst-case scenario spikes, its difficult to measure out and test correctly - 1 preset as long as you are below Superfast (which you should always be, Veryfast is default) will not really give you any kind of visible difference (and is essentially impossible to eye-test), it's only really the compound effect of dropping 3-4 presets to medium/slow which can be very notable

Can anybody tell me how preset actually affects the image and in buffer speed is it a big deal if I use 500/500kbps instead of something like 450/500kbps?

Thanks!

With presets Veryfast and below you are trading off massive amounts of CPU power for slight increases in encoding efficiency (quality at the same bitrate)

Buffer is more complicated but higher will allow your bitrate to be more spiky to keep quality consistent, generally setting it higher if you are using upload near your max will just result in ping spikes or higher ping because you cant keep up with upload for small periods of time

I've got a i5 2500k and i can easily do 1280x720 @ 60fps with medium preset, i can even do 1080p @ 40fps with medium preset...
Not a good idea to argue with experience .

I want to start stream, but is there anyway that OBS wont automaticly decrease my fps ingame to 30 ? ( Even when i set it on 60 in OBS settings )

CPU: i5 Oc'd to 4.5Ghz
RAM: 4gb

Actuall OBS settings:
Quality: 10
Bitrate/Buffer: 3500/3500
Res: 1680x1050 / scaled to 1120x700 ( got 16:10 monitor )
60 fps
Preset: veryfast.

My connection:

Everytime i start OBS fps in Sc2 is dropping to 30 - its not a big problem, its playable etc, but i'm just asking is there is anyway to get it to not drop fps.
I'm getting the derection.
