Adoble FMLE 2.5 command line version + SCHF DSF.
I used to be streaming back when I had a E8400 dual core about 2 years ago.
Here you can see a video of the quality that I got out of it :

This is also pretty low bitrate (I don't remember exactly but I think it was 700kb/s upload.

So right now I'm using AmaRec Video Capture to take my capture carded xbox360 as my video source so that means I won't be able to record a webcam as well since it takes up my overlay? Because right now I'm enjoy the incredibly superior quality I'm getting from Amarec as compared to XSplit when it takes my capture card, for some reason XSplit just makes it look nasty =/ but that is neither here nor there.

Hello guys. I just read pretty much majority of all the posts in thread and now I'm looking forward to set my stream on. Since upload on "home" connections in Croatia is total crap I use dual carrier hspa stick...will usually stream over the night when speeds are the best...at that time I get around 14mbit down and 2-3mbit up(let's say it's 2stable). So my specs are: i5 750@3.7ghz w/ coolermaster hyper evo 212 8gb g.skill ripjaws gigabyte gtx460oc 768mb
i've got 16:10 screen, playing on 1680x1050 res so I'd like to stream something close to 720p, i guess in my case its 1280x800 res
i'd really like it to be smooth and stable and that I get decent fps(I really dont mind playing on all low settings as long as I can get more fps)...eventho most of you will say u can't see diff between 60 and 100 unless you got 120hz screen and I'm not gonna discuss about it, but i think i can feel the difference when going through the screen with mouse and additional fps really helps me a lot
so propose smth better than this: ffsplit overlay 2.0b 1500kbit faster/veryfast? 1280x800 45fps 112kbps stereo(listening decent rock music while streaming so i dont want terrible xsplit sound)
thx in advance!

You are gonna want to use veryfast preset. And I think 45 FPS is going to be aggressive for a few things.

Should I bother streaming at all if my upload is only 0.65 Mbps? I was thinking of using this program but if my speed is to low then I will say screw it and not bother at all.

What resolution are you using as well as your pc specs.

Radeon HD 7750 Phenom 2 x4 925 8GB of ram 1280x1024 is my native resolution so I will have to play in windowed mode if it is necessary which it probably will be.

I think with your system you can get a great looking 720p stream at 45fps. That's what i'd recommend to you.
Your upload is questionable though. Try speedtests connecting specifically to the server you connect to in ffsplit. Use a program R1CH created called JTVPing (just search on it) to find out what server to best use (jitter is most important, but you want green/good avg ping).
What fps you stream at and what fps you play at are 2 different things. You'll of course get a performance hit when streaming, but with the right upload settings, your stream should look okay and you shouldn't feel too much input lag.
Stick with the default preset. Preset is Upload & CPU. Each frame is a certain file size. So with 1500 vbv, that means 1500kbit/FPS = image size per frame (so you can see how fps also affects your image quality, BUT, how many fps you can put out in a minute depends on how long it takes your cpu to encode them at a given bitrate). If you slow your preset down, youll have to really increase your bitrate, meaning some people with only like 2mb/s download speed can't even watch your 720 stream, which means less viewers. Just stick with default. Really, it's not worth adjusting, your cpu isn't quick enough, it wouldn't help you, and your upload isn't high enough.
Everything else seems fine. Audio settings, Ive seen all sorts of recommendations but 96 or above is fine. I think you should be able to stream pretty smoothly.
You are gonna want to use veryfast preset. And I think 45 FPS is going to be aggressive for a few things.
his system can definitely handle 45fps. It's not exactly cpu dependent, per se, what your fps is. it's more like it's one of a couple factors that shapes the entire experience...

You could probably be fine for 1280x800@60fps@veryfast on your CPU in sc2, but increasing your capture framerate will hurt game performance a lot compared to lower, make sure to keep note of that and keep game performance and encoding performance as separate variables
First gen i7 @3.8ghz + HT and i recorded for a while at 1600x900 at 60fps on veryfast which is ~1.4x the pixel counts and IIRC cpu performance is close enough, within 40% margin even without HT.
In any case you shouldn't have any troubles encoding at 45fps
If you slow your preset down, youll have to really increase your bitrate, meaning some people with only like 2mb/s download
Slower preset = longer encoding time = higher encoding efficiency (higher quality at the same bitrate) and faster is the opposite.
Its useful to drop presets some for lower resolution and FPS streams on a powerful system with limited upload i think, but you get very low returns for it - and you shouldnt use a preset faster than veryfast under any situation i think - Veryfast to Superfast lowers CPU requirements by ~6% but more than doubles the bitrate you need for the same quality in my testing

Hey, i've got a question. First of all, i'm actually too stupid to set up a stream properly i guess, because i tried millions of different things, with little to no result.
First of all, i play at 1680x1050. I found out, i "should" stream at 1152x864, which would be equivalent to 720p (i have actually no clue if that is true). Up until now i tried XSplit (trial), FFsplit, Wirecast (trial), Dxtory, OBS etc or a combination of them, and nothing does really work for me (mainly i guess because i don't really know the basics).
I really like FFsplit, because it feels "lightweight" compared to XSplit, and i want to further use it. But it actually can't "hook" into fullscreen-games, so i tried Dxtory. Which kinda worked in "standard-settings (Dxtory-codec etc)", but looked crap. So i downloaded a x264 codec, (x264vfw), and.. Well. Now it does not work at all anymore, as soon as i start capturing in the game, the stream goes offline. What on earth do i miss?
Could please anyone give me a tip about Dxtory (or maybe an alternative?) for tapping into fullscreen games, or how i get some kind of acceptable quality out of it + ffsplit? Maybe a different codec?
PC-Specs + Show Spoiler + Win8 Pro i5 2500k @ 4x4,4ghz (watercooled, so load is not a problem) 8gb RAM 570 GTX Beast
25mbps down, 5mbps up
Haaaalp.. Please.

I'm having an audio issue with FFSplit, the stream looks like it's working fine but when I start it the audio loops infinitely, having a stranger/higher pitched sound each time. Anyone know how to fix this issue? Much appreciated.

For those around 600-1000 kbps upload: -you cannot (you can but you shouldn't, it's dumb) stream higher than a 9xx*5xx resolution, most people have desktop resolution @ 1920*1080, they have to divide the stream resolution by 2: 960*540 -no more than 25fps, more fps = less quality, I recommend 20 -you need a quad-core @ > 3ghz so you can chose a slower preset like medium, slow or slower and upload a better quality(in this case less pixelisation) with the same bitrate. Chose the slowest preset possible that allows you to play comfortably, I have a Q6600 @ 3,6ghz and use slower in LoL, slow in SC2, but thats a bit extreme for sc2 sometimes, I have to say. Of course, if you're limited CPU wise, you'll need to free the CPU with the game settings. You can decrease the game resolution too, I use 1440 instead of 1680, therefore I divide the streaming resolution by 1,5. -the "quality" setting is a bit obscure to me, just try something between 6 and 10, doesnt really matter -for the audio chose AAC with 96 bitrate for example, sounds good enough to me -if speedtest.net shows 0,8Mbs upload speed, the bitrate should be set around 730 ( if the bandwidth is only used by a VoIP program and game), the buffer a little more : I have 900 bitrate and 1500 for the buffer
Once you started streaming and your cpu usage is fine in game, two main problems might occure, looking at the VOD or told by someone whose watching ( dont watch your stream ) : -the stream is freezing, frames are missing : your bitrate is too high, lower it -the stream is too pixelated when there is too much motion : the quality(number of fps, stream resolution) is too high, lower it or chose a slower preset
Wasn't going to post on this thread but after reading all this nonsense I realised that a lot of people have no idea what they're doing and give each other advices, it's just painful.

I don't get where everyone gets that nonsense about the buffer. The way it works, you can never stream more than max bitrate + buffer over the course of two seconds. That can mean that in one second you'll stay way under your max bitrate while in the next second, you'll go way over, resulting in dropped frames because your upstream bandwidth is too low.
If you want to make sure you're not dropping frames due to this, I advise using little to no buffer at all.
This only applies when your max bitrate is already close to your available upstream bandwidth, of course. If you're streaming at, say, 1000kbps and your upstream is 5000, you can obviously use the buffer without risking dropped frames. If you're streaming at or close to your available upstream bandwidth, don't buffer.

I have 950kbps upload speed, I use bitrate 900 and buffer 1500, and have no problem. I dont know how exactly buffer works but 1:1 or 1,5:1 is not really important, the rest of my post tho, is. That part was just repeating what a competent person wrote on xsplit forums, that you can have twice more buffer, it will just add some delay.

I found out, i "should" stream at 1152x864, which would be equivalent to 720p (i have actually no clue if that is true) 1680x1050 is 16:10 ratio, 1152x864 is 4:3 (720p is 1280x720, 16: 9). I imagine the 16:10 equivalent of 720p would be 1152x720. Whatever you choose to use, you should have your stream output the same aspect ratio as your monitor.
Otherwise, your PC and upload bandwidth are more than enough to run a high quality stream. Sounds like you did a little too much with Dxtory. Go back to default settings and use the guides on these forums-- I personally used the Dxtory for XSplit guide and had no issues.
The creator of OBS is apparently working on fullscreen capture, so keep an eye on that.

does anyone know how to enable the stream delay option for this program? mine's greyed out and it wont tell me why for no reason....
|
Trying to stream but when I hit the start button. The program seems to hang at step:
Streaming.....
But I get no readout of anything. When I hit the stop button it finally says connection established, my stream goes live for a quick moment, and then goes right down (since I hit the stop button). Sometime later the program actually relinquishes control to me, it usually keeps it for a very long time.
EDIT: Looks like its something to do with DXtory.
My stream keeps kicking itself offline as well. No idea why. FFSplit keeps chugging away though. But twitch isnt getting the message.

No need for me to do that. Im already running at 2800. If bitrate is the problem then its not my issue. I have 8mb up.
Its all at once as well. The vod shows the stream is just fine and smooth. And then instantly cut out. Meanwhile my client has no idea and is still churning out bits.
