Very impressive little piece of software. It and FFsplit are pretty similar in almost every way except for the overlay system.

The encoding needs to be done somehow, either be dedicated hardware or a software solution using your CPU. Edit: Ive run some tests and this is not better than XSplit. Its a good free software but considering the amount of features you are lacking compared to XSplit its worth the small bucks for XSplit if youre a streamer. First the performance.....its not faster than XSplit. Encoding will ALWAYS be stressful to your CPU unless you get dedicated hardware. What FFSplit is using default is "Screen Region" which is LESS cpu intensive than using for example game source of xsplit or DXtory. BUT it looks 5x worse. The animation is choppy and you can also use Screen Region in XSplit if you want the performance gain trade of quality loss. And the overlay options are really really lacking compared to XSplit. I mean its a good free software but it has a long way before reaching XSplit quality. Xsplit forces you to preview what your streaming which has an overhead all of its own and unless they have changed it, you can't turn it off which is pretty fail. Xsplit simply does not work at all for me. i5-2500k, I can stream 60 FPS with FFsplit but Xsplit stutters and jitters all over the place. FFsplit is nice and smooth and doesnt detract from my experience much, while Xsplit forces everything to be hyper choppy and 15 FPS. Also I wish someone would come up with GPU encoding. That would rule. I would be able to stream anything and everything in 120 FPS.

I didn't have any issues with it in the few minutes I played with it, so I dunno.

The guy making OBS is usually really quick to respond to stuff and that's the only way to fix things like that

If you had a Q8400 that wouldve been a different story. I had a q8200 for a while and could do 720p on it while it was only oc'd to 3.14 ghz.

What sort of CPU would I need to stream at 720p / 1080p @ 60FPS and does graphics card have any affect on streaming performance? Edit - Also would 9mb upload speed be able to cope with the above as well?

... ffsplit does not work with xp, so what would you advice, xsplit, fmle or somethin totally different? 2) is it normal that if i stream with xsplit, starcraft 2 has enough frames ingame in every situation while streaming, but the stream looks like he has only 10-15fps, although i did adjust 25fps what i mean is, if my cpu/gpu is too slow, will i notice it first on the stream, or is this more like a sign for wrong settings or sth like this? im streaming on win xp prof 32 bit with a i3-3220, 4gb ddr3 and ati hd 4870

You need a native quad core to be able to stream decently. You may be able to do 480p or 432p with an i3 though. Try it out and let me know what happens.
