Hey TL.Net :D!

I'm having some trouble with my XSplit, and I would love if some techies out there could give me some pointers!

PC Specs:
I have a core i5 2500k (overclocked to 4.8ghz)
GSkill 8GB Ram (1600)
P67 Pro 3.1 Rev mobo
750 Watts PSU (Fatal1ty)
GTX 470 PSY
Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit

Make sure at very minimum the following information is available / visible: Resolution, bitrate, frame rate (fps), quality options.

Trying to stream to JTV/TwitchTV

http://www.justin.tv/ayserjamshidi/b/301709090

I'm trying to make the pixelation disappear, or lower it at least, while streaming at a crisp 40-60 FPS, any help will be fine!
So, how mad are you, from 1 to idra?

put your preset to default, and turn your fps to 24, 29 or 30.... 60 fps isn't needed at all.

Increase the bitrate! At least 2-3k imo. Do you really need to steam at 40+ FPS? 30 FPS looks more than ok.

Could you describe your problem a bit more in details? Where/when is it choppy? For now, I'll assume it's lag for the viewers (I did check your VOD link, but didn't find any problems at a glance).

When you use the "Bandwidth Test", what result do you get? Use that minus 200 but not higher than 2500 for the bitrate (for a 720p stream).
For preset your CPU will do "fast" or "medium" without a doubt. Default is equal to "veryfast" and will not use your cpu to its fullest potential.
Your audio settings are bad. Use Stereo, 44.1KHz and 128.000 kbps.
Finally, leave "Resolution" at default.
And keep FPS at max 30 until you get rid of any stream lag.

The Tier 3 update doesn't have that for free users, only for the purchased users. Will the audio really sound that bad? I havent tried it with the audio settings like that before.

& for the others, 30+ FPS is fine too. but I cant set my bitrates to 2k/3k, 2k/2k, etc, I have other peopole using my network (brother, mother)

I will try the settings you said hellgreen when I get back from school.

Hello ayser!

Your main problem is your max bitrate and your buffer.

I suggest trying to do 2200 max, with buffer at 800 (i found if I put my buffer to high stream started to stutter.). Your network still still work fine as you are mostly using upload and they will be using download.

use 30fps as said.

You can safely use 2k/2k if your family isn't uploading stuff constantly. They won't be needing too much upload bandwidth if they're just watching YouTube or browsing sites because that's all download.

What you say about quality is true, but as his stream is "choppy" it is a bad idea to increase the bitrate without a positive confirmation that his upload can sustain that rate. More on this below.

I actually didn't know that about the Bandwidth Test - duly noted.

On the audio, trust me, there's a world of difference between your current settings and those I suggested. Using a wider frequency range and stereo means a lot for sound quality

About using a lot of upload bandwidth. Some have already said it, and I agree, unless your family streams too, they probably don't need the upload. BUT as your started this thread by saying your stream was choppy, we need to establish what you mean by that, before changing the upload bitrate. Is it choppy for you when playing (aka input lag) or is it choppy to watch for the viewers, and it that "choppyness" due to low FPS (stuttering units) or pauses in the stream (lag). If your stream is truly lagging, your upload is already maxed (because your hardware is really good and shouldn't be the problem, but just to be sure, tell me your CPU usage when streaming+playing (before changing any settings)). In that case you actually need to lower the bitrate until it stops lagging, OR try changing the server you're streaming to in the "Location" setting.

I tried to local record on very fast, it went decent, very fast was looking good at some points, choppy at other points,
Tried fast, it was using alot of my CPU, my game was very choppy itself, my guess is cause it was recording to my desktop, might do better streaming. Tried medium, holy sh*t (Not sure if you can curse in TL ), My game was freezing left and right. Changed location to new york (I live in pennsylvania), going to stream for several minutes, checking the choppy-ness on fast, lets see what happens >_<...

Hmm, you are not supposed to feel the effects of the preset like that with a i5 2500k @4.8GHz. Are you sure your OC is at decent temps and that the CPU isn't throttled at all? I think what you describe sounds suspiciously as if the CPU isn't performing.

Also, please answer this - it's important to be able to help you:

If your CPU is performing, the preset setting is not the way to fix the choppyness. Focus on the bitrate.

Sorry for not responding in 2 days;

It's not my stream lagging, it's actually something with XSplit, When I use the game source, It grabs battlefield 3, I get 50+ FPS on BF3, but on XSplit it takes about 10-25 FPS, I want 50+ BF3, and 50+ XSplit, any way on doing this?

I'm sorry, but I just don't understand what you mean. It's like some words are missing or I just don't follow you t.t.
The stream is not lagging, but XSplit has low FPS? But XSplit doesn't even have a FPS counter.

I don't know if you're referring to either input lag or the almost ever occuring game FPS drop XSplit inflicts when started. This is due to the way it grabs frames from the videocard (through GDI). A 3rd party capture driver such as DXTory can sometimes alleviate that.

You talk about FPS in XSplit like it's a game, it's obviously not. You select the FPS for XSplit (to transmit at) in it's settings - typically between 20-30. If you want higher stream FPS you need approximately twice the bandwidth and cpu, which is pushing your cpu+network but doable, but then you say there's no problem on the stream, so what is the problem? Are you talking about the preview window?

You also mention you use GameSource (which is available only in purchased XSplit), but previously you said you couldn't do the "Bandwidth Test" because you hadn't purchased. I'm confused by all this contradiction :D

Help me help you please

Hah, yea, I just bought it today actually

I'll post up a video soon, My game is 50+ FPS, XSplit see's my game, but it doesn't catch all of the frames, it shows my game as around 10-30, i'll post a video tomorrow for you, hopefully this clears some confusion

~Can't make a video it seems, also, you brought up DXTory, I have it, but when I try it, and my game starts lagging quite a bit, and XSplit gets 5 FPS, So DXTory isn't an option, unless i'm doing something wrong?

How do you know what FPS it shows as?
Where do you see the number?
Are you estimating?

If you got poor performance with DXTory you missed a configuration or try with a fresh new XSplit "presentation" (file menu).

Your bandwidth to server is probably sufficient but it is recommended that you redo the test.
If the test consistently gives you a YELLOW signal, you may consider lowering your combined audio bitrate and max video bitrate to slightly below 2628 kbps.

Got the yellow ball.

Should I bring it down to 2000kb?

Do you have skype? So we could communicate easier?

I prefer to use the forums, the information will be shared better this way.

Yes, you need to keep the bitrate below the test results. Including your audio.

I believe you are trying to use to high of settings for the processor. Check the processor usage when your streaming and running sc2.

Please don't post comments like that. His doing a 720p. His CPU is "a core i5 2500k (overclocked to 4.8ghz)". CPU usage is not the problem, especially when his bitrate is higher than his bandwidth.

Assuming nothing else is running in the background. I wouldnt post if I didnt have the same problem with a different processor and this was the problem.

My internet is 5 up so that wasnt it and i tried everything else until i noticed my settings were to high.

The important difference is that his CPU is different than yours - you cannot assume things are the same then. Plus if you know XSplit thoroughly you know it is impossible to max out an OC'ed i5 2500 on the specific settings he uses.
