Thanks though, I'll keep the site in mind if they randomly happen to restock. Hmm. One option is wasdkeyboards. The keysets are customizable and run nordic layout. TKL is ~$50. However, I believe they are based in US and the shipping to Europe is roughly $15. Keys are ABS.
I had to pay like $45 to customs for a wasdkeyboard after the shipping (which was more expensive than $15 iirc) - It was a mistake for me to buy from the US :D (uk) but nice board.

Yeah, exactly. The shipping itself is expensive for how little is in the package, and customs will almost certainly slam me for about the same price as the keys themselves would cost.
Either way they're not a necessity. I want them because I think it looks good and unique, and the price of a keyboard on its own isn't quite within what I'm willing to pay for that.

My spacebar on my filco keyboard feels like crap after a month, is there something i can do to fix it?
It hard to press and inconsistent and i have the feeling that whatever they used to balance the left and right side is scratching on the bar when i press it.

Anyone have a Max Keyboard? its hard to find many in depth reviews of them.

EDIT: It is a stabilizer, that is what it is called.

yeah i just was pissed and just went ahead and pried that spacebar from my keyboard.
There is a cheap mechanic involving a metal stick stabalizing the spacebar. I picked it all apart and brushed it and put it back together and now it works, so thats that
actually, i think i put the spacebar in 180° turned, but it is better this way.

Risky, but stabilized keys, backspace is sometimes as well, but most commonly spacebars are a fucking nightmare to mess with.

Right, this is a question pointed towards 60% enthusiasts.
I'm looking at a Poker II/Leopold FC660M for portability/different switch/moddability/Keyboards becoming kind of a hobby of mine.
I've been looking at a white PBT Poker II (Non-backlit) and I really love the way it looks. Does anyone ahve any recommendations about keycap sets that go well with this that I can mix with the keyboard to make it even more awesome? My own idea was getting some black/grey PBTs and either do the 37 1x1 keys or the ''modifier'' keys with that set, creating a 2-color effect, but the fonts will be different so it might not be as awesome as I have in mind.
On the other hand, I might go for the Leopold, considering it has an awesome red plate with it at no additional cost, but it's a bit more expensive/bigger. Extra keys could be handy, but I'm not sure.
I hope someone with experience can help me out!

I am looking to buy a mechanical keyboard with red swtiches. My options seem to be
Corsair K70
Rosewill Apollo
filco magestitouch
steelseries 6Gv2
The price range isnt that large, with the 3 between $100-115 and the Filco about $50 more. I read in some comments that the rosewills are usually recomended as the "cheap" mechanical keyboard brand, do they tend to be less reliable or less sturdily built?
The corsair k70 casing looks to have a somewhat different shape. I dont know if this is a con or not, does it effect the layout or feel in particular?
The upside of the Filco seems to be that its more robustly constructed than some of the other brands, is this the case?
I'm not settled on whether or not i care about backlighting, but I actually like the look of the rosewill lighting quite a bit.
If anyone has any particular recommendations I would be grateful. I plan to go for one on amazon unless there turns out to be a far superior deal. I apologize if this exact same decision is commented on many a time, but I was having trouble searching through the forum for these questions in particular. Thanks!

Go with the FIlco, the build quality is better than anything else on your list. The others are not bad boards, but the Filco is a fucking tank.
|
I'll confirm, Filco is amazing.
|
yeah, i have filco red, i regret nothing!
|
I've got the rosewill 9200 (not 9100) w/ red switches and love it. VERY sturdy keyboard, assuming the usb connector issue from the 9000 series is fixed.

I had a steelseries , seemed to be forever knocking off the keycaps for some reason - especially around the ESC 1 2 3 F1 F2. Irritating as hell. Other than that it was a nice board. Have you thought about a QPAD? mk80 and mk85 specifically. Come in most key flavors, good reviews, and well built apparently. http://qpad.com/products/keyboards/

with the razer sale coming up i'm considering splurging on a razer blackwidow chroma since it's 50% off. does anyone have any opinion on the normal version (razer green switches) vs the stealth version (razer orange switches)?
the difference is here http://www.razerzone.com/sg-en/razer-mechanical-switches apparently but i'm not sure how that translates irl.

since both are supposed to have tactile feedback: read Razer Green - think Cherry MX Blue read Razer Orange - think Cherry MX Brown
The rest seems to be usual marketing blabla.

I'm considering a TKL mechanical, but it has to be real silent (due to close proximity of sleeping, easily aggravated family, ha). As such I'm looking at http://mechanicalkeyboards.com/shop/index.php?l=product_detail&p=987 . Now the thing is that I don't have any experience with mechanical keyboards at all - my previous being a trash Dell keyboard that I have grown to love, love! that unfortunately won't release the s key without a very tangible delay, nowadays - so I would be much obliged for some input on the linked keyboard.
Does the linked keyboard seem fitting for SC2?
Anyone with kb paradise experience?
Any other silent type of keys you know of? (the matias silent switches seem to be fitted only in non-backlit TKL keyboards, and I mean hey hey backlit seems nice)
Lastly I have a rather weird question, I guess, but when I look at mechanical keyboards their keys seem so small and close. In short it seems really hard to use a mechanical keyboard in the context of an RTS. How long a transition period should I expect? Any converts out there with a story to share?
Thanks for any input!
Edit: Hmm yeah we're also talking, preferably, Mac compatible stuff here

You should expect near zero transition time. I instantly started adjusting and actually becoming faster, even though I use blues. I'm not EXACTLY sure what kind of deviation switch this is, but it seems like they're similar to brown, just a bit heavier. I know the V60 are very well regarded as good keyboards however! Kind of on par with Poker (The brand I'm contemplating getting a red switch keyboard from atm. )
It seems like the Matias quietclick has focused on being as quiet as possible though, so if you value that, I'd give it a shot. I doubt you can get replacement keycaps though as they'll mostly just fit Cherry-MX boards, which this one is not.
If you're looking at more standard, cherry MX style silent switches, MX-browns seems to be your best fit. (The standard ones are Black, Red, Blue and Brown.) I currently am using blues, which are basically more tactile and slightly heavier versions of browns.
Edit: just a little bit of extra info: I'd go and check out some switches at a nearby store or buy a switch tester if you want to spend a little bit of cash before you make a decision. Blues and Browns (which are similar to the matias keys apparently) have a clicky, ''bumpy'' feel halfway through the press (so that you don't bottom out the key as often.) Very satisfying for typing.
Reds, Blacks (and clears) are non-tactile so they don't have that extra noise from the blues, or the bump from the browns/blues. This means you can tap keys on them faster, but they'll be ''less ideal'' for typing.

Wrong, actually. They're using Kailh switches, and just called them Razer ones. You can see Kailh as a cheaper, ''rip-off'' cherry. They claim to have the same durability, but not too much research has been done as far as I know. People kind of hate the 2014 version of the BW because of that, and I'm very happy with my 2013 one, wouldn't have gotten a 2014 one. You probably won't feel much of a difference though, it just sounds/feels like Razer ''cheaped out'' and made a marketing move out of it, even though it's technically, supposedly a downgrade.
You can compare them to MX blues and MX browns though, just won't be the ''exact same deal''
|
thanks for the info! how bad are kailh switches exactly? would it be worth picking the chroma up at 50% off (~85 usd) and no shipping cost?
