Iam asking because I need a new one, after having qck for only a month or so ( i play alot though).
The place where I've had my mouse is really "hard", the friction has been reduced cause of all the dust I've hammered into the mousepad with my mouse xD. I guess I can turn it around and play on the other side, but after that I need a new one for sure!
Or is it possible to wash it, or does it destroy the friction if i do?
I don't normally change mousepads. I've had my Talent for 3 years and no problems. I'm pretty sure you can wash a qck+ but you probably need to find out how to do so properly. Someways can destroy the bottom layer and/or the top.
My mousepad has to be at least 14 years old now. Plastic top, foam underneath. It has visibly shiny-smooth wear patterns that get bigger every year and broken corners. Works great.
Edit: This thread answers my question as to whether I'd ever want a cloth mousepad. Maintenance sucks.
I just changed the mousepad that I used for about 12 years last week. Upgraded to a razer goliathus control edition. I love it so much more then my standard mat.
I have a hard mousepad and plan to use it for the next 5+ years or until I break it going to a LAN. With cloth ones I had to replace them every year and a half or so, whenever the edges started fraying enough that it annoyed me.
I also have the same pad, and same issues, i have moved the pad over about 1/2 a foot, and am using the bottom right corner and feels like new right now, but it will fade away like the middle did. I initially thought this pad was amazing, but i think something with a plastic finish is just better overall, you wont have to wash it, and it will stay nice and slippery for a lot longer. That being said, since apparently i can throw in the wash, i will try it out, and hope it comes out like new again lol, if not, il just keep placing it and flipping it around until ALL the mouse pad is completely sticky lol. Also, ive had this microsoft sidewinder for years now, and just recently changed the feet on the bottom, and noticed a massive diffrence in friction, so i have another way to help friction stay at a low. But overall, think i will be buying a new pad, something plasticky.
Well, what kind of mouse are you using? an optical doesn't need a mouse-pad, and to be honest I hate mouse-pads. I haven't found one that feels like my desk enough, and my desk has just the right amount of slide. You might not have to buy a new one =)
I wash my QcK with shampoo in the bathroom sink. I also have an Allsop Raindrop cloth mousepad, which is about ten years old, and it still is okay after a lot of washing. My guess is, the QcK also will still be alright after many years.

The large QcK is big enough so you can put your hand on the pad to not touch the edges, and still have enough space for your mouse to move around. Also, the cloth seems to be glued to the rubber foam base in such a way, that it will never fray if the rubber does not start to crumble, too.
I had bad experiences with hard mouse pads. The texture wore down in the middle where the mouse was, and the mouse started to stick to the pad. The hard mouse pads that did not wear down instead started to eat the mouse feet. The Allsop Raindrop, on the other hand, never went kaputt and also never destroyed mouse feet.
I guess regularly sticking new mouse feet onto the mouse is not any worse than having to wash and dry the cloth pad, but I kinda dislike how easy the mouse glides on a hard mouse pad, so I have to go with cloth.

From experience, if you don't use a mousepad, chances are the little pads on the bottom of your mouse will begin to wear, causing more friction. This is also why I never use hard mousepads.
I've been using my qck+ for about a year now and it shows no signs of deterioration.

qck usually last 1-2 years so you must play alot washing the area with a small amount of rubbing alcohol (emphasis on the small) as the hardness would be most likely due to your body oils being left on the mouse pad which would cause it to be somewhat hard. Also it could be that you split something on it (i dont know what it would be lol)
as a general rule of thumb soft pad tend to be cheaper and less long lasting relative to hard pads which can be more expensive and quality is variable. However some people prefer one or the other for a whole host of reasons and it is more personal preference about which one you choose then X is better than Y.
At the end of the day it dosent matter the strength and power of the sword it is the warrior that wields it that matters.
I had a cloth mousepad and had no problems with hardened dust where I use my mouse. You must have really high tolerance for friction though because as soon as I feel the slightest scratching feeling of dust or whatever under my mouse I just wipe off the skates/ mousepad after game. I'm certain this is why my mousepad lasted so long, I recently switched to a hard mousepad though.
