Hey guys,
So my I sent my BlackWidow back for RMA so I'm going to try to use my really old Monterey K208 keyboard. So the main connection for the keyboard is an AT connector thing (I believe), and I have an AT to PS2 adapter, which was on when I found it in the basement so I assume it works. But my laptop doesn't have a ps2 slot so I bought a PS2 to USB adapter for it.
However when I plug it in, it says USB Device not recognized. Is it because the keyboard is just too old? I am on windows 7 if that makes a difference. I could not find a solution anywhere.

You'll need an active ps2 to usb adapter. Most of them provide for 2 ps2 ( mouse and keyboard) to one usb.

I do have a PS2 to USB adapter. I got it for $2 at Frys Electronics. Would this converter come on the adapter?

adapters connected to adapters do not work well esp when you're changing a signal into usb compliant. but that's not really helpful and more just pessimistic of me.

I couldn't find any direct AT to USB adapters. Not even on clickeykeyboards.com, where they probably should have stuff like that.
Some other places mention that AT is mechanical/analog and USB is digital so a simple adapter wouldn't work. I don't know how this makes sense since a AT->PS/2 works, and PS/2->USB works.
Some also say that the AT requires much more power than a USB port can provide.
Sorry, I don't really know, but it looks like you'll have to do a lot of digging for this to work :-/ If it's not worth it, just buy a cheap $10 keyboard from Wal-Mart?

Yeah, I always keep at least 2 spare keyboards and a spare mouse available. A lot of random computer junk is in storage, but those spares are always handy. Of course, me and my wife are both techie types, so we've got several boxes of random shit.
You know you might be a geek if you find a random CPU on top of your dresser.
On topic, I honestly haven't tried this, but can't find much info. Cheapy keyboard is probably your best bet.

Probably not; a simple adapter just reroutes the signals from a ps/2 port to USB shape (called a passive adapter), but an actual converter (or active adapter/converter) changes the signal appropriately, which is requires a little chip which adds to the cost (and generally, size of the device).
"active" is the key word, btw, so make sure you get one that is active or it'll just do the same thing that your current adapter does.
