I'm looking to get a mechanical keyboard with brown switches, and for some reason i cant get my mind off of this one http://geekhack.org/showwiki.php?title=Island:13825
but, i can't find anything on TL about it. Am i missing something, is there a reason nobody buys this for SC2?

It's rather difficult to find and has a somewhat odd layout (very squished to minimize the size). Also people tend to buy what they know + what is accessible. Das being a pretty well known brand, filco being used by several pros, steelseries and razer being team sponsors.

I think it looks pretty awesome btw

Very interesting. I'm a big fan of KB's with a smaller footprint. I moved to a tenkeyless (no numpad) a while ago now, and my setup is a lot more comfortable. That Noppoo Choc Mini has some construction quirks though, wouldn't get one myself.

The keyboard is fine. It's just incredibly difficult to get in America (or expensive).
Accessibility is the number one reason it's not more popular.

If you goto their website they have an email were they can be contacted for american purchasing.

They don't seem to have the Choc mini which is a little dissapointing. If I find out were to get one i'll edit this post again.

It is generally not a good idea to purchase directly from the manufacturer.

Ebay has many Noppoo Choc Mini MX Browns for sale, but it's pricing is terrible.

Most people get them through O-book or something through a dealer in China. I'm going to try to pick one up when I go there this summer.

I was looking @ the prices on ebay, and they cost roughly the same as a tenkeyless with black/blue/brown switches its not bad pricing.

The quality isn't the same, and it's versus the 420 max in China, which translates to like 70-80 max after conversion.

I can tell you what it's like when I get it. I'm just not sure when I'll get it.

It's not a bad keyboard, but don't expect amazing quality.

i am actually looking for this keyboard as well and unlike Blisse i find the pricing on ebay pretty good.

~90 Dollar for a mechanical keyboard with good reviews on eg. geekhack is imo well worth it.

(on a sidenote: there are quiet some cheap ones with black switches from this seller )

if you also want to look for other alternatives, a good place is http://global.pchome.com.tw . I got my Ducky DK9008G2 from there. No hastle if you follow this Guide ($20 for international shipping!)

I have this keyboard and I can recommend it. It's very small but it has all the keys you need. You can even switch the capslock with the left control key if you think that's easier.

The build quality is very decent. It's not like a Filco or a Das but it has no flaws anyway. The keycaps are pretty thick and the lettering seems to vary per keyboard from dark grey to light grey. On my keyboard the lettering is very dark, so without decent light I can't read the letters but it doesn't really matter. The keyboard only works on USB but it does have NKRO and that's all you want.

I also have a Das keyboard but I switched it for the Noppoo Choc Mini. Once the Noppoo comes with red switches, I'll be switching to that I think.

Mostly Harmless

OOPS sorry I'm really biased cause I'm in Canada and all our prices are horribly overpriced. I haven't really checked American prices, but it should be really reasonable (lucky). I also find it really hard to navigate the sites for Ducky's and stuff.

And there we go, a real review.

If you buy this one for NKEYROLL, dont. It is not possible to get this over USB.

I actually just ordered this thing from ebay with cherry browns. Once Canada's postal lock-out is over it will eventually get shipped and I will probably do a quick review of it on this thread.

Hi, I have this keyboard with black switches. I got it on ebay since with the GBP to USD exchange rate the price was comparable to a razer blackwidow, and I didn't want to buy a filco or anything in that price range.

It's a nice keyboard, the construction is solid and the small form factor is convenient. The key layout takes a little getting used to for regular typing (need to use Fn key to access home, end, insert etc) but for starcraft it's fine since none of the keys you actually need are out of place.

Here's a video I made of it if that's any help

Take note, if you are one of the few TL.net users that uses a Mac, do not buy this keyboard. It behaves very oddly on Mac OS X, as the OS has issues with the way the Choc Mini registers itself as 3 different keyboards (this is how pseudo-NKRO is achieved through USB).

Here is a video demonstrating its behaviour on a Mac. Not pretty. This keyboard is unusable on Mac OS X. (And nobody has created any kind of fix for this, as of yet...)

Aside from this, I think it looks like a brilliant keyboard, all of the reviews are very positive on geekhack and overclock, and the price is great for what you're getting.

heres an update; I wanted a choc mini and was going to buy one off ebay but the seller would only ship to confirmed paypal addresses, and well, i just moved to a new house... I was going through the process of getting this address confirmed when i found out first I had to verify my bank account(which takes 3 days) and then wait for them to send me something in the mail. I ended up finding a filco ninja tenkeyless with brown switches on amazon and chose the one day shipping. Long story short, I'm typing this on my new ninja filco!

I may get a choc mini in the future, but the thought of getting a mechanical keyboard right now as opposed to getting one shipped from china that could take up to a month, was just too tempting.

Apparently this keyboard can be made to work with mac os x. See this link. You just need to buy one of these adapters

QPAD MK-85... great keyboard and support's true N-Key rollover via USB (even though that's an overkill it actually does)

mine has Cherry Mx Reds.

I have blues and blacks, but my Qpad-mk85 REDS for me are amazing!!

TT1... I have the exact same keyboard <3 wasd also, put their o-ring sound dampeners on it and I quite prefer the lower noise as well as reduced bottoming-out distance.

For SC2 especially, having the Function keys so accessible is very nice (actually this is great for quite a few games).

BTW, I saw they came out with the white version which I think look SWEET. Qtan, the e-bay seller known specifically for selling these kinds of peripherals, has it: http://www.ebay.com/itm/White-Noppoo-Choc-Mini-Mechanical-Gaming-Keyboard-Cherry-MX-Blue-PBT-Caps-/300643821029
