also, I am soon planning on building a pc (new at it still doing some research to see if i will actually be able to do it)
i am reading on that overclocking is good for free extra performance, and if the CPU name is a "k" in it it means its unlocked and can be overclocked.
i looked that the ones with the K in it is a bit more expensive, (around $50 more to its regular locked counterpart).
also, i have no idea on how to overclock. and i probably wont as i dont want to risk damaging my CPU.
even with these, should i always opt for the one that can be overclocked opposed to the one that cant?
IE: i7 - 4770k cost $40 mroe than the i7 - 4770.
should i always opt to buy the one with the k? Some people have brand loyalty to Nvidia, mostly. Or there is some very specific feature like CUDA, PhysX, something specific in drivers, etc. that they are looking for. They're historically better supported in workstation apps for the pro cards. Also, Nvidia currently works better when using multiple graphics cards together, for those with more extreme setups. Given prices, for single-GPU configs for gaming, AMD is almost always better these days.
The k version lets you overclock, unlike the others in which it's artificially locked down so there's an incentive to buy the more expensive k version. The k version also has better integrated graphics, which is irrelevant because you won't be using them if you're getting a desktop for gaming. You'll be using a dedicated graphics card. You get no better CPU performance if using a k version if not overclocking. In fact, theoretically in the future it could be slightly worse for some things because of Intel actually disabling a feature on current-gen k processors. The different processor versions for desktop Core i5s and Core i7s are just the same chip but with different features enabled and different default settings.
It's almost practically impossible to damage a CPU in any significant way overclocking unless running some kind of way too much voltage into it. And that's controlled by a setting (well, settings), so there's generally not much risk at all.

It's what produces the electrical signals (or sends data) for your speakers or headphone so you get sound. Also what powers (uh, usually) and gets audio info from a microphone.
Every motherboard since a long time ago includes this functionality for free onboard, just like they include an Ethernet port for wired networking (on the other hand, most do not include wireless networking). If you're some kind of aficionado, audiophile, professional, or someone with some specialized needs, you can buy and use dedicated audio hardware instead of that. Doesn't seem relevant for you if you're asking.

I want prioritize sc2 to reduce network spike thanks if some have some script will be great THANKS

Last numbers I saw, which was probably half a generation ago, had Nvidia leading AMD by a lot in power consumption. I don't know what it equates to in annual cost.

The way I remember that problem described, it showed up when playing with too high APM. ... that was the only solution? why was this never discussed in the keyboard thread. would have been a huge indicator for me to NOT get a mechanical keyboard.
Most likely it only occurs with certain boards or blue switches. Blues stand out because their release point is above the actuation point (unlike brown, black, red afaik) but i have no idea on the technical side of it

well my keyboard is actually brown, so thats not it. brood war is known to be "slower" when it comes to response but im not sure it justifies keys not registering at all. as i said i dont have this problem with other keyboard so...yeah

Maybe there's something else happening? The finger not getting lifted high enough for the switch when repeating the same key or moving from key to key? On a membrane keyboard, the contact is at the very bottom, not somewhere higher up like on Cherry MX switches.
+ Show Spoiler [some thoughts on this] +Can it really be the switches being broken for this task? The engineering behind this is very old. It was used for decades. The original engineers surely had the task to make something that can work for very fast typists as that was a real job at that time. That should be very high APM.
I know the controller working with the signal from the switches does introduce some sort of lag for each switch activation. There's a time window of a certain size where it waits before it declares a switch as flipping on or off. This is to work around the problem that the electricity flickers on and off around the point in time where an electrical contact is closed or opened. I don't know where to find out how long that time window is. Knowing its size might show if this could be a problem. On the other hand, the controller in a membrane keyboard should work the same.

Use this program to maybe extract useful hints out of that "minidump" file that was saved:
http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/blue_screen_view.html
If it finds something useful, it will show a bunch of highlighted file names in the lower half of its program window. You can Google search for those file names to see if you can find hints about what devices are related, what your problem might be.

Skype keeps popping up an ad over my contact list, then opening a firefox window when i click the "x" to close it (does it 20, 30, maybe more times every day)
any way to stop that? I would try to stick to old versions, but it updates without my consent

It just closes for me when I click the X button.

You can disable automatic updates in the options but you still get the annoying upgrade popup like every hour or so... annoying as hell but I'll have to make do with the annoyance until they make Skype usable.

Any way to block certain AD's from TL? I understand that the AD's are a vital income for teamliquid, however I'm absolutely fed up with the endless 'date asian cuties' or 'WARTUNE: A GAME FOR ADULT MEN ONLY' with scantily clad women. I like to browse TL in relatively public places, and I'm fed up with this.

In your browsers options check the box in the privacy section about not being tracked. Then you will just get generic ad's.

Thanks, IE doesn't seem to have this kind of a setting, or its hidden moreso than on firefox. Followup question though, what if the generic ad's are 'Ladies online now'? I just ticked it, and what do you know, the first thing it refreshes to is that. And looks like the asian beauties is a generic ad too on this site. Do I have any other options besides AD block? (tho not sure if I can even use one on UNI computers

I'm looking to find an ssd enclosure that has a dedicated power supply, but allows me to plug in a sata cable. I've browsed a number of options but I'm only coming up with USB enclosures and mounting kits. I have a sata port on the back of my laptop so I figure I'd rather use that than USB.

Do you have eSATA or eSATAp? If it's eSATAp, you can just use this as your SSD probably already looks pretty protected without any enclosure: http://www.amazon.com/eSATAp-Power-eSATA-Adapter-Cable/dp/B00FHN1CZC/

With adblock you can selectively block sites/scripts (on chrome it's with "Easy create filter"), it takes a couple of clicks and a refresh if there is an ad you don't like and you'll never see it again.
