Starcraft 2 will still be "alive"for forseeable future in the sense of having operating servers and other game-relating services(such as Battlenet) and a decent player base(albeit significantly smaller than that during the heydays), with or without being included in the EWC.
But it is important that the game have new updates to keep things fresh and exciting, and thus keep the player base engaged. If not, people may find the game boring or such and leave.
It is exciting to see people from the community and new orgs step up and hosting new tournament for the good of us all, like Tasteless&co hosting RSL, French enthusiast Kanoya hosting K-Championship, and the new Polish tournament FEL Cracov.
But it seems like there is relatively little attention in our community to curating a new balance patch. The current patch is definately not the best effort in addressing both the fun and balance part of 1V1 starcraft, and it has remain in place for nearly a year. We have a lot of talented people in this community(not including me, only good as a cheerleader at best), enough to put together an effort to a new patch, not dictated by whether we will have a new EWC or big/mega tournament(s), but by the general state of the 1V1 playerbase(a big part of it being on the ladders) and passion towards the game.
Thank you!
