Actually, after a bit more searching, my motherboard model seems to have an issue with USB with users reporting similar issues. Might need to try to flash my bios to a newer one.

Laptop cooling pad users, do you feel like the cooling pad draining battery power from your computer slows your computer down?
|
sorry that I come here again,
Dota 2 has interruption times.
I use a Laptop with AMD A8-3500M APU With rreadon HD Gaphics 1,9 GHZ 4GB ram win8 64bit AMD Readon HD 7640G
I run dota everything on low, with 30-40 fps (which is totally fine) BUT I get interruptions, which means a ca. 1,5 sec pause of the game. My ping is from 30-70, it's not a lag issue.
Does anyone know how I can fix these interruptions? They really destroy my dota gamefun.

Monitors tend to buzz when they're failing. It's much louder if your ear is over the vent.

Can someone tell me what kind of port this is? (The teal/green colored one.) + Show Spoiler +
Ok so apparently it is a serial port mainly used for rs-232 communication. For my application I have a piece of hardware that is rs-485 communication. Would my best bet be to get a usb to rs-485 or rs-485 to rs-232?
Ok pretty much figuring this out by using google, sorry for the post. Seems like the rs-485 to rs-232 is the way to go, which would make sense since they are "more similar" than to a usb.
|
That's a serial port, rarely used anymore except for programming switches and other old school stuff. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serial_port
No, RS-485 is much quicker then a serial port, which in theory only does 115200bps.
USB to RS-485 is your best bet. I guess if your RS-485 does not use much bandwidth, then the RS-485->232 would be fine. but that port is SLLLOOOWWW

iirc the only thing I ever used a serial port for was directly connecting to some commercial routers.

I dunno. When I turn on my AC, my lights tend to get dimmer. My first guess is that there isn't enough electricity.

Well judging from the wikipedia page I thought the serial port is a rs-232 port. In which case why can't I just use a converter to rs-485? edit: ah I see, speed is a lot slower
An RS-232 serial port was once a standard feature of a personal computer, used for connections to modems, printers, mice, data storage, uninterruptible power supplies, and other peripheral devices. However, the low transmission speed, large voltage swing, and large standard connectors motivated development of the Universal Serial Bus, which has displaced RS-232 from most of its peripheral interface roles. Many modern personal computers have no RS-232 ports and must use an external USB-to-RS-232 converter to connect to RS-232 peripherals. RS-232 devices are still found, especially in industrial machines, networking equipment, and scientific instruments. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RS-232
I'm not too knowledgeable in this area but for my application the only thing this communication line will be used for is to have the computer change the set-point of the PID controller it is connected to. So I don't think the bit-rate will be heavily taxed. Thanks for the help though, might post here again later!

They should only dim briefly when the load spikes, but even so they're operating on a different principle. If your computer doesn't have enough power it's going to BSOD, crash, shut off, etc; it's not going to just slow down. I could be wrong (some magicky laptop gimmicks), but I doubt it.

Just so you know, the two current ASRock and Gigabyte motherboard's I've seen, one for $70 and one for $120, both still had a COM port header. That's a header for the exact same port as the one you've shown in your photo. You just need to get that to the outside with something like this: http://www.amazon.com/StarTech-com-Serial-Motherboard-Header-PLATE9M16/dp/B001Y1F0HW/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&qid=1367293282&sr=8-9&keywords=rs-232 motherboard

In the past too when I've charged a phone from the usb port my computer has gotten hot. I guess it'd be fine if I were charging a fan though lol.

I am from Brazil and i am very sad with the internet here, i can barely play on NA with 200 ms ping (at least thats what "tracert us.logon.battle.net" tells me on cmd). Recently i heard VPN services could help me with this problem. Do you guys know if this really helps and could you recommend me any?
Thanks.
anyone plz?

I don't know much about real-world large-scale networks, but it's unlikely (but possible) for a VPN to help. I mean, if you're routing all the traffic through a different location, that's just adding an additional restriction on where the traffic has to go, probably adding more hops. Almost always you'd expect that to be slower. Also, if most of the delays are from hops in your ISP's network or in your region, it's not like sending traffic elsewhere would help that.

It can help, it can hurt, it can do nothing. It mostly depends on how your traffic gets re-prioritized. Aussies used to use it a lot for WoW.

How did this guy do these colors? :
![[image loading]](http://www.overclock.net/content/type/61/id/1427898/width/500/height/1000/flags/LL)
Yes, I know about editing colors, but like I can't do all the colors. For example, there's no way to make aero/classic theme borders get that dark - they can go to 'slate' and you can make it a little darker but not that dark. And like, there's some things I can't change the colors of - for example, those blue 'boxes' he has in task manager and real temp, those just stay the default white (you don't see them until you change window colors). The tabs in the task manager, can't change those from white either. There's a few other things too, that can't be changed (or maybe it's the same 1-2 things, whatever).
Thanks. I love this guy's color schemes, I mean it goes exactly hand in hand with the colors of my computer case (Z77X-UD5H, colonial blue paracord sleeving on all my cables, blue leds, black/silver everything else).
I've PM'd the guy, no response, he isn't an active poster.

That's a different theme. Normally, only Microsoft themes are allowed, but there's a "uxtheme multi-patcher" crack to enable other themes. After running that crack, you can go browse deviantart.com for Windows themes and can install any of those. There's also a (not free) program from Stardock named "WindowBlinds" that does themes in Windows.

really, i thought he just edited the colors in the advanced options. that's kinda lame.

Kinda lame? It's one of those we probably always-kinda-knew-would-likely-exist-but-did-not-really-consider-until-now-AWESOME-THINGS

Heh I was active with tweaking/editing msstyles in the XP days out of necessity (default XP theme is just too ugh ahaha). Hmm but I wouldn't mind seeing how that scene has evolved these days. Seems Aero-Soft bit the dust, but Aqua-Soft is still in existence.
