I have a friend using TekSavvy and he loves it. I was recently talking to another friend and he told me he downloads over 5 terabytes a month. I have no idea how that is possible but with him, I don't doubt it at all. Anyway, point is that he was recommending the following ISPs which you may want to look into as well as TekSavvy: 3web.com eyesurf.net After reading this thread I think I'm going to investigate alternatives as well. EDIT: The two options listed only have unlimited plans for their DSL lines, so probably not what you're after. My mistake.

The greatest thing is no throttling. I originally thought Rogers wasn't even throttled based on speeds versus bell, but now I max out my connection on almost every torrent I download which even trumps Rogers performance. The only downside is the low upstream, only 500k, which isn't good at all for streaming. But whatever - no contract, $42/month after taxes.

Outages have been very rare, and we're always notified ahead of time. What's your plan like? I'm also from Ottawa and I've had to pay an extra 10$/month for extra usage (bringing me to 180gb/month) and paying an absurd amount.. almost 90$/m (on Sympatico) EDIT: Just looked at the difference between DSL and Cable on teksavvy, sigh I don't have cable input in this room @.@ I am very tempted on trying the DSL, as currently I only get 6down. But on the site it says "up to 5Mdown" which is a little unsettling. Anyone with the DSL package in here? How is it for you guys? ![]()

While you do have to buy a modem and pay for installation, that money is recouped fast from all the savings you get over rogers - especially with overage charges. The greatest thing is no throttling. I heard Bell forced it upon them, along with the "no more unlimited bandwidth" policy.

UBB decision was reversed by the federal government so no this is not true anymore. Maybe sometime in the future, this may become true again.

How is it for you guys? ![]() Get yourself a router, several 20-100 foot cat6 cables and make a project of setting up ethernet ports in several parts of your house. It took my dad + 1 a couple of hours to do it, but now we have ethernet ports in all bedrooms + basement living area, and a gigabit network. IMO definitely worth it. It will even increase your property value slightly lol. Edit: i'm not sure how different things are in Ottawa (i'm in toronto), but to pay $90 for that connection is absurd. I pay pretty much half that for a 25mbit down 1mbit up with rogers...

I didn't know it existed but I came across the powerline networking stuff, it seems kind of cool and my house is about 9years old so I'm wondering if anyone is familiar with it, as that would be my only option for cable internet in this house. EDIT: Not paying it for the speed, it's strictly for the extra bandwidth. It's cheaper to pay for the extra bandwidth than go over it and pay the extra fees obviously ![]()

If you go on the Teksavvy website and go to the link that orders their services, you can enter a postal code and the website will check if their services are available in your area.
