I've read a lot of reviews about teksavvy's cable, and so far so good (minus the fake reviews). However, all reviews seemed to be coming from non-gamers, and that didn't help me much.
i'm currently with Rogers, and as we all know, it's a freaking rip off. and teksavvy seems to be the most cost efficient isp out there in ontario (ps. They're a sub company of Bell) :
download: 15mb + upload:1mb + bandwidth: ∞ = for $55/mth
If you happen to be using Teksavvy cable, what are the pros and cons? Is there any random lag spikes, drops, etc...?
Thank you.

The only bad thing about it is that on a few occasions, your internet turns unusably slow. But it's very rare, maybe once every few months? And it goes back to normal within an hour. I don't think it's much worse than Rogers' random disconnects.
It's still way better than Rogers and Bell.
edit: If you're unsure about switching, at least call up rogers and threaten to switch. Then they'll give you a more reasonable rate.

i have both cable and dsl package (lol cause im baller, but basically dsl is for the family and i use the cable for myself :DDDD)
cable is pretty good, it had really really bad route to jtv tho before but now it's great, watch like 8 streams no problem!!! and no throttling, so basically its torrents all day if u do and watch streams at the same time. very good imo
in terms of gaming? i dont really game much nowadays, but i used to play wow and it was fine, sc2 is pretty good. if there's some measurement u wanna see, tell me what to do and illl do it and u can see the ping or whatever

rogers is crap switch to teksavvy like i am... guy wanted me to pay the extra $50/month so i can use as much bandwidth i wanted, wat a joke, the gb cap limit is a joke

That's great.I wanted to know if you guys random lags during games and what not. But I'll wait for more inputs before I make a final decision

I've had both Teksavvy DSL (both regular and dry loop) and now I have finally settled with Teksavvy Cable. The cable I find is awesome, the speed is usually 25+mbps down and consistent 1mbps up.
There was a time approximately a few weeks to maybe a month ago where Teksavvy Cable was waiting on upgrades which resulted in a while of ridiculously crap speeds due to congestion during peak hours (~1-3mbps down, lots of packet loss), however that has since been fixed. I never get any random drops, or random lag spikes, and even during peak hours now, I am still able to get at least 20mbps down.
edit: The lag will probably depend on which location in Ontario you are at. Different POI's will have different congestion issues, so while one area may be severely congested, another could also be lag free.
I am currently on the 15/1, 300gb plan for about $46/month, which is more than enough bandwidth for me.
Depending on how much bandwidth you use, the 300gb plan may be cheaper, but I don't know how much you use so thats your choice. Teksavvy cable does not have a way for you to check your monthly bandwidth usage, so if they ever say you're over, you would have to take their word for it.
It was much faster than Teksavvy DSL, I am able to be watching a stream at 720p+ and still have perfect latency when playing SC2.
Finally, to correct a misunderstanding, Teksavvy is not a sub-company of Bell. They are an independent ISP that buys the last mile infrastructure of Bell and Rogers to provide internet. So while their internet services may be using Bell/Rogers lines, they are not part of the same company.

You are on an advertised 15 mbps line but get speeds like 25+ mbps? Or am I missing something? If that's the case, then I better switch asap. I was worried about the slower speed since I have a 25 mbps connectoin with Rogers and thought the drop to 15 mbps was too much so I've been hesitant to switch.

The 25+ mbps speeds may be due to Roger's speedboost, I'm not 100% sure how it works and how it affects speed tests, but here is my current speed test at 9pm on a Sunday. If I were to do the test on say, Monday morning/afternoon before 5pm, it caps out at 30mbps, which is the apparent cap on the modem.

The test on the bottom is supposedly not affected by things such as speedboost according to people on dslreports, but I still don't find that big a difference.

Ahh I see. How are the speeds from like 5pm-2am, or whatever is the peak hours? I'm in Scarborough so I was wondering if there's a noticeable hit on the speed if you happen to know.

Ever since Teksavvy has upgraded the POI for scarborough (which should be the mcnicol POI, if you ever go on dsl reports), speeds have been what I posted on top during peak hours. the lowest I've seen during these times was maybe ~15-20 mbps. But even then, it's technically what I paid for, so I'm not really complaining.
The time of ridiculous congestion is most likely gone as Teksavvy actively tries to keep up with upgrades on the infrastructure as to avoid super low speeds like a few months ago. Their CEO is pretty active on the dslreports forums (specifically under Teksavvy ISP) and always provides updates to what they're upgrading and stuff there too.

Thank you. 1. They are not a sub-company of Bell. They use Bell phone lines for their DSL last mile as Bell is forced to share with competitors.
2. Teksavvy cable uses Rogers lines and the performance will be mostly the same as cable congestion is at the node. Maybe better as it circumvents Rogers throttling.
I think dslreports.com is the best source of info on service providers. Teksavvy has a forum there you could ask questions in.

Anyone have any info on how good it is in the kanata region of ontario? I was going to switch to teksavvy myself and right now im debating on cable or DSL, I've always had DSL because its more reliable, but from the reports on this thread it seems to be more efficient to get a plan that's slightly higher for 5x the speed, especially at peak hours.

I've read somewhere on how Ex-Rogers users that switched to teksavvy have experienced throttling and lag spikes more than those who are not. Is it true?
I've been really interesting in teksavvy because Rogers sucks and the bandwidth cap is a joke.

Tek cable is just as good as their DSL as it is unthrottled and unlimited. But it is not limited to 5mbit like DSL. Unless you are in an area with congestion.

How can I find out if my area has congestion or not? Is there a forum like dslreports.com?

I don't think that should be the case, but I can't say if it is true or not as I was ex-Bell instead of Rogers.

Just browse the Teksavvy forum on dslreports regarding congestion. Teksavvy's CEO, Rocky, is very active on that forum. I would link it but I don't know if it goes against advertising rules on TL.

wow i get hella shit speeds compared to some ppl :\ like double my dl

I'm switching as soon as my contract expires with rogers..

Well, I have rogers and get the thing below, even though I am promised 25 mbps. THe upload is slow but I rarely use it so it doesn't bother me. Only thing is has a steep cost, and the cap is brutal.

I'm switching from Cogeco at the end of the month.
TekSavvy looks like a good choice, but are there any ISPs in the durham region that offer more upload than 1mb ?
