Running programs through a proxy server

gods_basement United States305 Posts January 13 2011 13:17 GMT #1 I'm going to a new school that has all internet access through a proxy server. This is all well and good for internet, as it was a quick fix, but i cannot seem to get my programs to connect to the internet. what would be the best way to get applications to work? i would post more information but I wouldn't know where to start. Thanks in advance!

gods_basement United States305 Posts January 13 2011 16:57 GMT #5 okay I installed the program, but it doesnt seem to work, so maybe i am using it wrong. Thusly, i'm providing some information. the school's instructions for internet browsers was to "automatically detect settings" or to use a script here: http://proxy.ucd.ie/proxy.pac when i realized that none of my programs worked, i went to IT and he said that all programs are blocked from the internet. however, he went into my AIM settings and routed it through a proxy, and it worked. it was HTTP/HTTPS through proxy.ucd.ie port 8484. i assumed since AIM could be unlocked, all programs could be unlocked too, as long as there was some way of routing them through a proxy. currently on proxycap, i listed proxy.ucd.ie as a SOCKS proxy through port 80. i made a rule to make starcraft1 run through this proxy (both udp and tcp) but it could not find a server.
