6Gv2 is the same thing as the 7G but it doesnt have 1)Headphone in 2)Microphone out 3)2 USB Ports 4)Wrist Rest
The 6Gv2 is $50 less than the 7G. Would it be worth to save up $50 extra then buy the 7G, i just think it will probably be more convinient to have the mouse plugged into the keyboard than your desktop. What are your guys thoughts?

I'm using a 6Gv2 right now, Love it so much. I don't miss the 2 usb ports or the headphone jack to be honest. Most people could probably do without it.

you dont the fancy frills of the 7g the 6gv2 is just fine and typing on one now

I purchased a 7g about 3 weeks ago on Nov. 28th and I like the 7g however the mic/headphone jacks and the two USP ports seem a bit overrated for $50 I'd say go for the 6gv2. However what I've noticed is that if you have a SteelSeries headset like the Siberia they seem to work very good with the 7g because of the short cords on the headsets, but it completely becomes null if you have the SteelSeries USB sound card or if you have a good place to have the headset connected. My two cents.

I have a tower for those ports, i don't need a keyboard, i love my 6gv2 though

I have the 7G, and I'd kill for the 6Gv2.
I don't use any of the extras and don't use the wrist rest (although it's nice I don't have the desk space). While the 6Gv2 has a bigger backspace which I'd actually love.
I'd swap my 7G for a 6Gv2 in a heart beat. That's my opinion so save yourself some cash.

One thing to keep in mind is that they both have quirky layouts. I think the 6gv2's is better than the 7g's, but they both have weird key positioning near the right enter key.

I was seriously considering the 6g over the 7g, however i then realized i wanted brown switches instead of the black

I have both myself. I bought the 6gv2 for MLG Dallas because I couldn't use my 7g due to its PS/2 connector.
Personally I prefer the 7g because of the right shift being bigger, and the backspace being smaller. I also generally like the feel of the 7g a bit more. And the wrist rest is amazing (but I use it with both my 7g and 6gv2)

As a side note to this, I was waiting for a while recently to order a 7G but it would seem that Steelseries is out of stock. I sent two support tickets into their store to ask about their supply and basically they responded with (paraphrased) "We don't have any. We don't know when we'll get any. You should buy a 6gv2". They literally seemed to have no clue if there was any plans to get more 7G's in stock or not. Was very odd...
So honestly this question is probably moot since you wouldn't be able to get a 7G (unless you found one on Ebay) anyway.
I ended up buying Filco (brown switch) keyboard from the classifieds at http://geekhack.org. Very very happy with it.

if you ever want to go to a lan you need the 6gv2
Also if you unplug your keyboard a lot you need to make sure and turn the computer off with the 7 otherwise you run the risk of doing some damage.

you cant buy it there..... see for yourself...Havent been able too for a while, sold out, out of stock everywhere. There are some "medal of honor" versions but a couple people say there is a problem with the MOH version. And I am not a medal of honor fan boy....Also the SS site doesnt have anywhere to pre-order so that is no help at all..

they only carried the 7g, and they took it off their website about a week ago.

The official SteelSeries shop keeps getting more in stock and then they go away again (for the 6gv2), so if you keep checking it should be back. It was off and on the whole time I was looking for keyboards.
The 7G has been out of stock for a while with no plans to get it in stock (as far as they know).
There seems to be a shortage of good mechanical keyboards with these guys and EliteKeyboards being out of stock... sc2 related?

The 6gv2 is back in stock on the Steelseries north america site.
