Anyone have any opinions about this mouse or how it compares to others? ![[image loading]](http://www.gameguru.in/img/mionix-naos-3200-mouse.jpg)
I have the 5000, and I have been in love with it since I first tested it at the store. I don't know how the 3200 compares, but the 5000 is incredible. These nice are little known, and don't get the attention they deserve. Not only is it smooth and accurate, but my god is it comfortable. It is the only mouse that I don't grip. My hand just sits on top like it just belongs there. The mouse is really wide and can feel bulky to move around for some people, but it is perfect for me. I have a large palm with average sized fingers.

TL needs an ultimate mouse thread. If you don't mind, could I write some stuff to be added to the OP?
Still planning on this? lol, plenty of space for anyone who wants to write something.

So my thread was inappropriate so I guess I should ask here. What's the best mouse JUST for Sc2/DotA2?
I'm interested in these the most:
1.) Zowie MiCO 2.) Razer Abyssus 3.) Logitech m100 4.) Logitech G9x
Has anyone tried all four? Can they rate each one from 1 - 10 in terms of comfort and performance?
I'm pretty sure Zowie MiCO is still currently the best even with its flaws but I need to be sure before I start ordering from ebay. I'm using 1920x1080 resolution btw.
So Zowie MiCO or not?
Note: I did read MOST of the threads, but I can't be bothered to read 1000+ user relies. But if this post is inappropriate as well and is going to get deleted, I guess I have read through all of them :/
EDIT: never mind I found the best mouse it's called SteelSeries Kana. It's supposed to be better version of Zowie MiCO and coming out in 28th of Oct. I'll wait for this mouse

I just wish people would stop spreading so much mis-information in this thread. For starters, every mouse worth its weight has prediction. They have to in order to get from movement to movement accurately. Perfect prediction is impossible of course, you can only err on not enough or too much.
Also I wish I could find more information on the response time of mice, which seems to have stagnated over the years (MX518 shares or exceeds the response of many current consumer mice).
Also it would be nice if there was a spot in this thread for education on polling rates, and how to change them by signing custom drivers into windows 7.
And educating users on the importance of keeping windows sensitivity at 6/11, as well as mouse acceleration and why it has been bugged in windows environments for close to 11 years.
These are WAAAAAAY more important than the foolish DPI war.
EDIT: Also Review of the 518 in the OP needs to mention that the DPI is not 1800/800/400. It's maximum DPI is 1800 but you can preset up to 5 different DPI that you can switch to on the fly with the mouse using setpoint.

From the info that I have found most mice are capped around the 8 milisecond mark due to the Windows default USB data polling rate. Apparently you can raise this by changing some Windows system files, but not all mice support a higher USB polling rate and setting it to an unsupported rate can cause problems for accuracy. There are some utilities that help with determining a mouse's supported rate, but from what I've been reading it can end up as a sort of guess and check system of testing whether a mouse is stable at a given rate.
Upping the polling rate apparently also increases CPU usage, decreasing performance and FPS.
Also it would be nice if there was a spot in this thread for education on polling rates, and how to change them by signing custom drivers into windows 7.
From what I know of changing polling rates via custom drivers this it can be complicated, messy, and sometimes pointless. Probably deserves its own thread. However, if someone wants to write up some info on this, I will gladly add it into the OP, but I have no plans on adding this info myself
As far as general explanation of things like polling rates, I am aware that the information on technical specifications needs a lot of work; I just haven't gotten to it yet.
And educating users on the importance of keeping windows sensitivity at 6/11, as well as mouse acceleration and why it has been bugged in windows environments for close to 11 years.

There are links to three different TL threads with this information. When I started this thread almost a year ago one of my main goals was to create a central thread unifying all the mouse related stuff on TL, not necessarily attempt to copy and paste it all into one OP. There is a lot of valuable discussion in those threads.

There were at least two different variations of this mouse released under the mx518 name, let me look into this tomorrow and I will amend the review if necessary.

OK, Good work toast. Maybe I will write something in a blog maybe, and then point you there.
For the moment. Overpolling a device can never lead to inaccuracies and generally one should always poll the mouse at 1k per second. Older motherboards will freeze when forced to 1k, 500 is just fine for them. And yeah lots of people have this "stability" mindset about polling. Thats a major trap people fall into. Polling is done by the motherboard, it doesn't rip the bits out of your mouse. No response by the mouse? No data.
The reason many devices are default polled at 125 times a second is because of an ancient standard that has been around since the 90's. Users in general cannot be trusted with hardware specific control. To be honest, the difference in control between 125 and 1k is night and day. I can't even play Beatmania on a 125 polled port, thats up to 8 milliseconds of latency and 8ms in that game is the difference between a perfect response and dumping your combo.
The only problem I have with writing a blog about it is, well, I want to be as exact as possible. If I say something thats maybe only half true, 1 guy will point it out, and like 500 people will follow suit with the "wtf you dont know wtf you are talking about noob."
Here is a screenshot of setpoint. + Show Spoiler + See how I can set 5 presets but I only have the one? I get more hotkeys off of my mouse this way.
Also, just to make sure, I never said you spread any misinformation
Before I go here is a link that summarizes prediction. http://www.overclock.net/mice/771171-mouse-has-no-accel-correction-etc-7.html
I could write so much more but, not here anyway.
Here is a mouse recorder log of my MX518. Default is 125.
+ Show Spoiler +
Don't be scared of the "dips." They quite simply aren't dips. Those are the moments where my poll to the port beat my mouse to the punch. It's the sign of a well tuned mouse.

The Steelseries Sensei feels so good in my hand, either love or hate the surface and I love it.
|
So I currently own a DeathAdder and as I'm getting more and more into BLC, i was thinking about buying a new mouse to carry around my University to play during classes and stuff.
Does anyone else have any suggestions on a compact and durable [enough to be carried inside a backpack all the time] laptop mouse I can buy?
Thanks in advance.

Anyone have issues with the right side buttons on the sensei? the way I hold a mouse my right ring finger sits exactly where that button is and is constantly pushing it and being annoying.

OP needs to update the information regarding laser mice, how you're guaranteed usually 5% positive acceleration which makes them all terrible.

I've actually have never heard this before. I know certain models have acceleration build in, but I wasn't aware that this goes for all laser mice. Do you have a source on this?

I got the best mouse ! Got 5 colors of light and cost 7$. What more can u ask and yeah it has low dpi xD
|
I got the R.A.T 7 and its amazing, worth the money anytime.

been using the kinzu and upgraded to g1 logitech mouse. The kinzu gliding is so crap and the sensor... whats with the acceleration... The g1 logitech is such a classic damn. I also tried the razer abyssus. The feel of the mouse and weight is like an upgrade of the g1. So nice but the dpi on the mouse 450 to 1800 to 3500 seems too much, there shud be more inbetween dpi settings. Other than that using g1 logitech for now maybe upgrade to abyssus!
BTW, the razer abyssus drivers from razer site is so bad, really no point in dling it
|
I currently have the Razer Imperator but it seems really jittery and I only really play sc2 so it feels big and heavy in my hands. I was wondering if I was to switch my mouse, should I go for the Abyssus or some other steelseries mouse?
|
CM storm xornet and spawn are pretty good if you like the shape. They will come out with an ambidextrous mouse later.
Razer abyssus does pretty well with a goliathus control or a hard pad.
Logitech G9x is good but has some positive acceleration that may or may not bother you. Xai/sensei are the same sensor as the g9x and have the positive acceleration. These mice also have problems with cloth pads.
Zowie mico is a good mouse on 400/800 dpi only.
Zowie AM looks to be a promising mouse if it doesn't jitter.
Kinzu is garbage and the kana/kinzu v2 will likely be garbage. G100 is garbage, possibly due to logitech's custom lens to get "500 more dpi"... All phillips twin-eye is garbage.

Considering that I bought one of those large cheap mouse pads from Fry's How will any mouse like Imperator and Abyssus perform on these kind of mousepads?
|
Using the Razer Nage and got all my production Hotkeys on the Keys 4-9 and my Unitsgroups on 1-3 it needs time to get into it but if you manage it u will love it.
