The seats is much more comfortable, the roar of the engine, the look of the car, the handling, and its a chick magnet.

I guess that relates to mice too, but unless you have tried an overly pricey mouse, you don't know the feel of a $80 mouse, its brilliant. It feels like driving a high end sports sedan, works like a charm, and lasts a long time. Oh well, they do the same functionality right?

Lol. I love how 50% of people start the argument of why you shouldn't get a pricey mouse. It is well worth it. I used to use a lachesis which was the best mouse i have ever used, but i just had to change the grip of my hand which my wrists didn't like. Now i'm using a crappy MX518. Yay.

Actually, Laser mice used to have issues on certain surfaces, but those problems have been phased out I believe. Decent thread though.

MX518 all the way, although smaller mice have been favored for RTS. Anything over 1600 DPI is overkill for RTS. FPS is a different story because there are more precise moves. In RTS it's more about feel.

Also, wireless mice are apt to lag. Wired mice can be just as heavy as wireless, in many have the option of adding weights.

Too easy to dismiss expensive mice, although many are hyped. The Intellimouse is still a great mouse and it has actually been recently marketed on the box towards gamers because of its popularity.

I am moving the map with the Third mouse button (scroll wheel) - is this normal that the Arrow resets while doing this?

I cant help but sometimes while moving in fights in the middle of the action my screen is not where it should be as i moved it a bit wrong.. dunno but maybe it has sth. to do with this? Screen movement at the edges ahs been removed.

Is there a way to deactivate the reset function?

ALso how can i Rebind the Mouse wheel to the Zoom function?

LOL wow I fixed the stupid DeathAdder's double clicking problem. Just set the double click time to not infinitely fast but faster than you can physically double click, and no more problems.

Just want to give a +1 to the Razer Abyssus, very simple, very light mouse that works perfectly for Starcraft. Just be warned that it only has 3 buttons (left/right click, scroll wheel), and is very light, so if you're used to a heavy, complex mouse you might want to consider something else.

I own Razer DA BE, Abyssous, Logitech G9x, and recently bought CM storm spawn. After 4 days playing with spawn, tried to test again the other mice and the feeling was so strange. I would recomment to everybody to try this mouse. It's cheap, it tracks perfectly and it's light.

I'm looking for a replacement for my Deathadder at the moment. Helpful thread, if only to highlight some of the more popular mice.

Btw, it's not that the Deathadder is a bad mouse - far from it. It is still the most comfortable and well-tracking mouse I've used to date. It's just that since my gaming focus has shifted from FPS (Quake mostly, some BF:BC2) to RTS, I am also noticing a shift in mouse grip style - from palm grip (whole arm aiming) to fingertip/wrist aiming. The deathadder is just a tad large and unwieldy for this type of grip.

Besides that, I also just need a decent mouse for my notebook and can't be bothered to unplug my DA all the time;)

Current favorites I'm looking at: Abyssus, Kinzu, possibly CM storm (hard to get where I live).
Price somewhere around 30-40 dollars. Most important features: light, suitable for fingertip grip, good max speed (doesn't start skipping once you move too fast, this is absolutely crucial in FPS games, even more so than DPI)!!

Your recommendation out of those three, or an obvious one I missed?

I own Logitech G9x. Best mouse purchase I've ever made (well, it's only one gaming mouse I own ). I would recommend it to everyone who likes a smaller mouse.

My Lachesis was Ambidextrous but I broke the usb on that and got the deathadder for less than half the price... can say it was much more comfortable.

I need a new one but it is so difficult.

Cyborg RAT 7 - Z-axis-issue
Razer Imperator - Z-axis-issue, no 4-directions mouse-wheel
Razer Imperator 2012 - lift-off-freeze at 1000 Mhz polling rate, no 4-directions mouse-wheel
Roccat Kone - low durabilty, mouse wheel often breaks, but supposedly fixable
Steelseries Xai - no 4-directions mouse-wheel
Logitech G9X - inferior shape, not as beautiful

And the last three have 5% built-in acceleration.

The DeathAdder is the best at under $50. It's suitable for both grips very well unless you have really, really small hands. If you do, I suggest the Cooler Master offerings since they're a tad bit smaller, but you're a case where you really need to try them out before buying.

You won't notice the built in acceleration, and I doubt anyone that's not a professional gamer or professional graphics artist will notice.

Of those, the RAT 7 depending on how unlucky you are can go from okay Z-axis movement to unusable.

The Imperator like the Mamba I believe has the z-axis fixed by ordering that extra ring from Razer, or putting a clean piece of scotch tape over the sensor. It's not like the mouse is exploding, but more like the lift off distance isn't that great.

The only issues I've heard about the Imperator 2012 is that it's mousepad calibration messes up if you change surfaces or use a multicoloured surface. That also happens with the Mamba 2012 I believe.

The G9X has an okay shape for claw gamers, or small handed palmers. It's terrible if your hand is large though, it's uncomfortable, and it wears out easily or so I'm told.

All of the SteelSeries mice are terrible and I wouldn't recommend them.

Just go for the obvious choice in the G500 if you want the sidewheels so much.

It's mostly that the Deathadder feels so large/wide in shape. It's not that it's bigger per se, it just feels bulkier. Which I LOVE for FPS games (I play lowsens), but for RTS it's not that convenient to play lowsens. That, and the glossy plastic on the sides (I get sweaty hands easily^^) means I have a harder time using it for fingertip style grip.
Something flatter like Copperhead/Diamondback or smaller/lighter seems like it'd be better suited for the setup I'm going for.

I second the CM storm spawn recommendation. I've used and loved my Logitech G9 and later G9x for years. I've also used a Steelseries Kinzu and Xai (the Xai I still use at work) and an Abyssus. Those are all still good mice, but I love how the spawn feels although it did take some tweaking of the firmware and DPI settings to get it to a point where I was comfortable with it. If you don't mind mucking with that stuff, it's a surprisingly good investment considering how cheap you can buy it. FWIW, on my black cloth mousepad, 1800 dpi @ 250 Hz with the v32 firmware is what I eventually ended up on.

There's an amazingly comprehensive review on the spawn here explaining the how and why you should configure it a certain way.

I was able to look at and grasp a few mice in a shop.

The RAT 5 really feels cheap. You don't see that on the pictures and videos, but it really feels cheap. Too cheap for being so costly.

The Deathadder is a great mouse and a classic. Its shape is superior to the Copperhead's. It just doesn't have the newest comfort features. The Imperator 2012 looks best and feels great, too. I just don't know about its sensor, drivers and so on. Some people seem to have freezing issues.

This is a good forum for mice: http://www.overclock.net/mice/

And here again the spreadsheet with the listing of sensors: https://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=0AosJbEwEG9GpdEpBMGc1ZXo0S3BLQm1YQ09jeVZ6bEE&w=100&h=650

OK, so I currently have a G500 but it's almost broken so I'm looking for another palm grip mouse that is better. Any recommendations?

the steelseries xai/kinzu is the quite possibly one of the best mice ever made - sturdy, feels amazing, great controls & calibration settings

I just havent tried out the sensei yet but its probably better

they based both of these mice off the intellimouse, which is regarded as the previous best mouse ever made so~

The Kinzu is actually a terrible mouse with a lot of problems.

The Xai is a great mouse and the Sensei should be too, since they're practically identical and should perform the same.
