Quite a bit louder than my old one but the sound is also nice. And it feels like I'm really giving my fingers some rest. Will take some time until I dont bottom out the keys anymore though.
Count me on board :-D
edit: any of you know a good program to emulate media keys? I miss my volume up/down keys :-(
On spills: Best emergency solution is to instantly flush with distilled water. Then you can dry up more safely since it won't get chalk on your contacts. Also probably best to dry with depressed keys since this will prevent the water from ligeringing on the important parts of the contact. Just my 2c. Where did you get that keyboard? read his latest post, seems like i was right ^^

Another thing to take into account about the 7g is the tiny backspace key. I actually use backspace a lot, even in-game (larvae inject shift backspace method), so that was a deal breaker for me.

Just to note: and it still blows every non-mechanical keyboard away. The feeling is pretty damn fine but if the touch could be a tad lighter, I'm all for it.
I got it from a local retailer after price-searching the exact keyboard number, which was G80-3000LSCDE-0 for my German keyboard with touch-tactile. http://www.cherry.de/deutsch/produkte/office_business_G80-3000.htm Click on "Ausführungsvarianten" All three variants for US are there, linear, touch-tactile and clicky.
Quite happy at the moment but trying to upgrade to "perfect" ;-)

The Filco are back in stock at elite keyboards. Well all except the 10 key-less brown switch. I just ordered one like cool's. I can't wait.
|
So is the difference rly huge between my 10€ keyboard and Filco mechanical one?
But i still have to wait till they release the DE layout cuz i cannot play on US layout >.<
|
There are Filco keyboards with various European layouts, thought you'll have to look for a different distributor. You could also get a Cherry branded keyboard pretty easily in Europe (the most important part of these keyboards is the mechanical Cherry MX switches). Cherry is owned by a German company - ZF Friedrichshafen AG.
|
It does make zero difference playing with the US layout on a Filco. It's another story while typing. Keyboardco.com confirmed DE layout by the end of the year.

Yeah, keyboardco. http://www.keyboardco.com/keyboard_details.asp?PRODUCT=751 <- German Filco They are UK based and therefore shipping should also be ok. Still vastly expensive.
And there is NO Cherry branded keyboard with brown cherry switches. Heck, from my research on the site there is only ONE keyboard (G80-3000) which uses the MX switches which they themselves make. I described my drama on the last page.

OMG ur the man but , are there rly no brown switches?! Still i think ill wait till it comes out "big" times in Germany cuz u get 2 years warranty :D

The German layout Filco is available with brown, but FoxSpirit may be right about Cherry branded keyboards. Apparently whites are the same as brown? Not sure. But you'll have a happy if you get the Filco. :-)

The folks at geekhack.org can give you some tips on how to get it cleaned up. With a little care it'll be like new again in no time. Be careful when pulling off the keycaps, particularly the wide ones with stabilizers.

T_T 2 weeks is a general rule before using electorics again that have been under water or something. If you clean it you can use it much earlier. But in general if something get's wet you want to unplug it remove the power from it then get to cleaning it. And after cleaning it you want to give a day or so to let it dry out.

Canadians looking for a mechanical switch that doesn't completely break the bank:
I just found out that the Rosewill RK-9000 is now $85 at newegg.ca with $7 shipping
For comparison it has the same features as the Majestouch Tactile Click NKRO the primary differences are the Rosewill has laser etched key printing (actually better than the Majestouch) and the logo is different.
The keyboard layout is identical since they are both Costar boards. And the price, it's basically half the cost for a virtually identical keyboard. Filco keycaps are compatible as well
It has blue switches, same as the Razer mechanical and the Adesso gaming keyboards. Meanwhile the Steelseries has blacks. Boxer uses blues, so don't think it's brown or bust. They are louder since they are clicky, but high apm + clicky is like "Fuck yeah"
It's a really good keyboard for a very competitive price, I'll go out on a limb and say it's the highest quality mechanical keyboard you'll find outside of the Filco and you won't get screwed by customs fees since Newegg has some sort of arrangement with that regard.
If you aren't deadset on a Filco I suggest jumping on this deal

Just my 2c. sorry dude, this keyboard isnt the same :D, i own one with these white switches too, and theire NOT EVEN near the brown or blue switches. No you don't. Not with mine. There are only 3 of them right now. http://www.cherrycorp.com/english/switches/key/mx.htmEven on the homepage there's only black, blue and white. The white one is the soft-tactile and if your look at the data-sheet, it's the one which is widely called the "brown" one. The "clear" switches listed here http://geekhack.org/showwiki.php?title=Cherry switches and boardsaren't even on sale anymore. And the white switches discuseed further down isn't it either. I'll mail Cherry to inquire what transpires here since they obviously don't sell brown colored switches themselves anymore. I'll update once I know more. edit: This page http://park16.wakwak.com/~ex4/kb/tech_cherry_mx.htmsays that the cherry brown are "ergonomic" cherry white, that means a more pronounced bump but about the same resistance bump and activation force. The cherry datasheet also mentions that the curve is the ergonomic bump but with no mention of the color coding. Intriguing. edit 2: I feel a bit grumpy. I dropped them a mail inquiring further but am now convinced those are in fact slightly inferior switches. But on the whole website there isn't even a hint that those are even used in any models anymore, even less made, especially since the other keyboards of the same Type use the current blue and black ones. I want my money back :-(
The english page you linked, where there are white, black and blue colored switches on the photo has a link to a .pdf with the product specifications. That .pdf shows the graphic for the brown colored switch from the japanese site you linked. The white colored switch from the japanese site is missing in that .pdf, so I guess there's a good chance your keyboard already uses the design you're searching for.
You could try ripping out the switch from the Scroll Lock key and dismantling that, and then compare (with the photos from the japanese site) the design of the stem part of the switch, and if the spring in the switch is the hard one from the black colored or the softer one from the brown and blue colored switches.

I thought I would care about tactile feedback until I started using this and realized it doesn't really matter for me. I bottom out a lot anyways, but the extra actuation force doesn't bother me.
The only thing I dislike about the 6gv2 is the completely terrible right shift + backslash key placement. It boggles my mind that the people at Steelseries would put so much effort into two keyboards and fuck up the layout on both of them. It doesn't affect gaming, but it's an issue during every day usage when you want to use question marks (because it's 2 keys from the shift key.)
If anyone from SS can possibly explain what the hell they were thinking, I'd love to find out. No one cares about a 2 row enter key.

so how do i decide which switch is exactly for me? purely for gaming, not just sc2 but some others as well(fps, sports games etc).. i kinda read everything but can't understand shit haha.. my english understanding when it comes to technical stuff is really badz . and i don't think i can find any filcos, rosewill, etc in my country, so trying to get my hands to "feel" those keyboards in a shop here is out of the question.

To add to the above on Cherry Keyboards - I have the G80-3000 with blue switches, mainly because it was £60 as opposed to £100+ for the Filcos. I absolutely love it for RTS gaming and typing, although it feels weird with shooters. Might get a 7g for that at Xmas.
