Incidentally, I have this keyboard as well as a DT35 and there is absolutely no comparison. Using rubber dome keyboards after the FIlco is uncomfortable to say the least. Yes, the Filco keyboards are relatively expensive but after using one for a few days you will have a hard time going back. And while Filco keyboards are not specifically made for gaming, there is no gaming keyboard that is better for gaming than this Filco. Glad to see Razer making a mechanical keyboard, but the choice of Cherry Blues over Browns or Blacks is completely stupid. Also, any keyboard with more than the standard 104 keys is garbage and should be avoided.

Not only is NKRO relatively useless in RTS games, but in order to use true NKRO the keyboard must be plugged into a PS/2 port which is illegal in tournaments because it is not hot-swappable and trying to hot swap PS/2 devices can fry motherboards. I'm considering buying this Filco, but what do most of you suggest? the 87 key or the 104 key one?

You should get a regular size keyboard unless you really seem tight on space. You pay 20 more dollars to remove the number pad.

Here is a link with detailed information about each switch: http://elitekeyboards.com/support.php?lang=en#1a Basically, the Blues are the same as Browns but they make a click when pressed. They are both tactile, meaning there is a subtle "bump" in the downstroke of the key. Black switches are linear. They are not clicky, and do not have the bump in the downstroke. They are made for gaming, especially FPS games. Personally, I would recommend the Browns. 87 vs. 104 key is just personal preference. (EDIT: sorry, guess Repok beat me to it)

It feels much easier to press keys for me especially when I spam my keyboard during a match. Having said that if my keyboard broke today(which it wont it's a Filco) I would have no problem playing on the other keyboard with black switches, but never will I go back to a standard rubber dome keyboard! lol I know Tester & Fruit Dealer are both using Filcos with browns, and a new video of BoxeR playing at the GSL qualification Day 2 shows him using a mechanical keyboard with blue switches. As for the 87 or 104 the only difference is that the 87 removes the numpad to save space and every version of the 87 supports full N-Key Roll Over. I bought the 104 keyboard since it was the cheapest(non-NKRO version) and at the time the 87 was out of stock. Another think to point out on the NKRO debate that sely was talking about, I know for a fact at MLG Raleigh both members of fnatic and team eg where freaking out looking for a ps/2 to usb adapters for their Steelseries keyboards or the MLG admins would not allow them to participate in the tournament. Like sely said many tournaments do not allow ps/2 which is required for full N-Key Roll Over, but if your just massing games at home this is obviously a non issue. Going to a tourney, just bring an adapter in case, SC players dont need full NKRO.

Yea its this one right here http://lousyhero.com/blaze/aug09sale/scorpkey.jpg Thx i was curious which Ione model that was. I hear these are not built as good as the Filcos but its one of the cheaper mechanical keyboards you can find in terms of price which come with MX blues.

It's really risky bringing a ps/2 keyboard to a tournament that doesn't allow them. MLG Raleigh had to allow the players to use adapters because otherwise a ton of players would have been disqualified and their debut SC2 tournament would have been a joke. They're not going to allow ps/2 keyboards anymore. SC2 players should just get the USB since they don't need the NKRO like you said

Even their lesser known KBs, the Happy Hacking and Topre Realforce keyboards are all USB (incase it matters to anyone).

What's the rationale for not allowing people to use a ps/2 keyboard with a USB adapter, though? If the adapter doesn't work properly with the keyboard and computer, then that's the player's fault and he can safely be made to forfeit due to having faulty equipment which it was his job to provide.

SC2 players should just get the USB since they don't need the NKRO like you said You rarely need full nkro usually 4 keys + 2 modifiers cover most cases that being said a keyboard with full support not just wasd block support. Esp a game like SC2 where in perfection you'd only be pushing 2 keys max so 3 key roll over is good enough Also ps/2 isn't fit for a tournament setting really. You're slowly killing your keyboard hot-plugging like you would for a tournament; which USB doesn't suffer from.
