First off I know there is an abundance of monitor threads but none of them pertain to my question so sorry if it seems redundant but I need some advice!
Everyone seems to prefer a big screen it seems. I am building a gaming computer in the next month and i need a new monitor. Currently i have a 23inch 2048x1152 (thats 16 i beleive) LCD and its too big. I play on 1600x900 (for the added horizontal view) without scaling on so there are black bars on the top bottom and sides of the screen surrounding my image.
So...I want to get a smaller monitor but will I be sacrificing quality? Im thinking like 19-20 Inch with a 16 ratio. The monitors that ive found that fit those requirements dont seem very good.....either low response time or low contrast ratio. It just doesnt seem like anyone is making good small monitors.I know nothing about monitors. Can anyone recommend any? Or am i better off just doing what Im doing now?
PS: what is better for a small monitor..LCD or LED?

Arrg. I hate Asus monitors, they suck hardcore. Go with a Samsung or LG. Super high quality. Also, right now LED screens are a gimmick. LCD with LED backlighting is the best you can get.

I have a BenQ, would take this over my old LG anytime. Yea and my old monitor was smallish 19", broke atleast twice in a year :/ But Samsung makes generally great/lasting stuff.

Oh man you can never have a big enough monitor!
On topic: I'd look into Samsung. I've had 4 different Samsung screens and I had absolutely no issues with any of them. I can't recommend you any 19" ones, though.

They are well-known to be made out of low quality components and often malfunction within a year or so (hence the cheap price).
Also wanna agree a bit with the OP. Playing games on big monitors can cause strain on the eyes. I myself have been playing on a 26" LG LCD for the past two years, and I sometimes feels that a 22" would have been more than enough.

yeah well for me i like to be able to quickly look at the minimap and food count like constantly and with a big screen its just too much work lol. thanks for the input guys.
do you think 1600x900 would look ok on a 19'' or 20''? cause i havent found one with a higher res than that
I also heard somewhere that tournaments are played on 1680 x 1050 can anyone confirm or deny this?

I've seen some big monitors have the option of displaying the natural resolution in the middle of the screen. So if it has a resolution of 2000x1500, it will display 640x480 sc in the middle of the screen, as if it was on a small monitor, all around that being black.
I just love that. You can watch movies etc., then switch to sc and play normally.

I prefer my oldschool 17" non-widescreen monitor for gaming over any other I've tried. Bigger monitors are better for like everything else non-gaming, but smaller non-widescreen monitors are better for gaming. Not saying I wouldn't get a bigger and widescreen monitor the next time I buy one, but I find smaller monitors are better for competitive gaming : )
