You can keep your current case, power supply, dvd drive, HDD if you'd like but here's a full configuration anyways. Configuration that totals to $955 before mail in rebates, capable of playing current and upcoming games on near max settings at 2048x1152. CrossfireX / SLI is not worth the money for the record unless you are planning to game across three monitors (Eyefinity). You'll need an additional SATA cable for the SSD. I have some parts in mind but I would like to compare what I have to what someone who has more knowledge than I do would pick. What is your budget? My budget is $1200 max(including a monitor). I would love to go cheaper than that though if possible. What is your resolution? 1920 x 1080 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236117 I am looking at this monitor right now. What are you using it for? Gaming mainly. I would like to run basically any game at max settings without a problem. Don't know if that's possible with my budget though. What is your upgrade cycle? I hope to not be upgrading for a very long time. When do you plan on building it? September Do you plan on overclocking? No. Do you need an operating system? Yes. Windows 7 obviously. Do you plan to add a second gpu? No. I am hoping to just get a single gpu and the cheapest one possible that will still perform very well. Where are you buying your parts from? I am hoping to buy my parts from newegg.com but if there are better deals elsewhere, that's where I'll go. Other info: Case appearance doesn't matter to me at all. I want the best parts for best price obviously. Like I said earlier, I want to be able to run games smoothly at max settings. I appreciate any help with this immensely. Pointless to ask multiple times and not build until September but since I'm already doing this, here: Just a modification of the above build, totals to $954 before mail in rebates, leaves you with roughly $250 for a monitor. You can remove the SSD if you want to lower the total. No need for fancy lights or whatever. But I want it to look nice Thanks in advance Another modification of the previously listed builds, totals to $663 before mail in rebates. Not much you can do with a $900 budget if you don't need an operating system, aren't willing to overclock, and not playing at 1080p. You can pick a different case other than the HAF 912 if it doesn't appeal to you, any mid-tower ATX case will work. I remember someone (I think Jingle) saying that when you overclock, it is the vCore that puts stress on, or if I put it in exaggerating terms, "damaging" the CPU, not the Core Speed. Well, I don't know of any serious heavy studies done on it, particularly at reasonable OC's, probably due to a combination of obsolescence and individual chip variance. But at reasonable numbers, voltage is what increases heat more than clock, and heat is what causes the most basic degradation.

Excessive voltage is bad in of itself, even without increased temperatures. There are some papers on the subject of degradation and for various types of transistors, some of which are similar to those found in CPUs, that show the dependence on both temperature and voltage. Increase one or both and you increase the potential effects of hot-carrier injection, bias temperature instability, and oxide breakdown. Intuitively this should make sense: increase the energy and more charge carriers will escape to bad places and cause problems.

Of course buying online is not actually a 'risk', but you will have to wait a while before they send you a replacement screen which can be annoying. I'm eyeing this screen http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236049 right now but I don't know what makes it better than other similar models. What should I be looking for?
