Heatsinks can be mounted in whichever way you desire. It's generally recommended to mount them so that it exhausts out the back and intake from the front since that's how case fans are mounted. You're seriously overthinking this.

Oh. Well that simplified like 50 problems I had. I think I'm good for all my parts. Now for finalizing. Here is my entire build:

Any thoughts on pricing? How could I cut it down? Here is what I am trying for in power:
I need to be able to record, upload, and possibly stream very demanding games, and run FRAPS and audio programs all simultaneously. It needs to be able to put up with very high amounts of stress easily. With that in mind I want it for the lowest price possible without sacrificing reliability of the parts.

Thanks for helping me cut down the price on those two. I'm getting an aftermarket heatsink (and yes, I was aware that the 2500 cannot be overclocked) but because I want my computer to run cool under ludicrous amounts of stress and reasonably quiet, so I can concentrate.
And about the quietness thing, what case would you recommend for quiet case fans?

Well how much do you want to spend on getting your computer quiet?
Now that Antec has decreased the pricing on the Antec P183, there isn't any reason to bother with the Fractal Design R3. The Antec P183, outside of Crossfire builds, is just so much better in just about every single way. I've dealt with both cases, the Fractal Design R3 for a WHS box and the Antec P182 for my main desktop, and there isn't any competition between the two.

It depends on where you live I guess. I bought a U2311H last week here in Sweden, and they don't seem to be that hard to find on different sites. They don't seem to have started selling the U2312HM though, I can only find one store that are out of stock with them.

Hey all my laptop just bit the dust.. Long time lurker, over a year, first time poster and I need some help! So looking to build my first PC, as I don't know much yet as I'm just starting to learn so all advice is welcome. Budget is around $400 which is relatively low since I'm a college student.. But looking to play BF3 or equivalent on any setting really with minimal lag, although if budget allows to crank up the graphics I'm all for it.
Approximate Purchase Date: next 3 months
Budget Range: (approx $400 - $450) After Rebates
System Usage from Most to Least Important: (everyday use, gaming, movies, internet, college work)
Parts Not Required: ( keyboard, mouse, speakers) Mostly everything. This looks like it will be my downfall with no OS or Monitor. Although I can get windows 7 for like $20 at the university luckily, open to used monitors from ebay/used/
Preferred Website(s) for Parts: (newegg.com, ebay)
Country of Origin: (USA)
Parts Preferences: by brand or type (none really, decent case and monitor)
Overclocking: maybe
SLI or Crossfire: maybe
Monitor Resolution: (whichever is best quality for the price, using 1366x768 now)
Additional Comments: (Want quad core but I'm not sure budget allows for it, decent looking case)
Any suggestions or help would be appreciated!

A) 400-450 is pretty low if you need a monitor+computer, expecting to play BF3, you're going to be playing in 1364X764 most likely, I recently built a system for my brother for ~$550 (including monitor and OS) that could run sc2 on ultra @1080p, so if you could up your budget by 100-150 dollars, it'd go a long way
B) If you're planning on building in 3 months, come back in 3 months, prices will have dropped by then, and you'll be able to take advantage of weekly sales

That'll be down to $320-370 after a cheap screen. While you get playable framerates on most games with that budget (even at 1920x1080 if we do this right), you'll not be getting much beyond low settings. That said, with a three month build window we can hit Black Friday deals if you live in the US, and that might just get the build a significant boost.

Quick bump for my friend:

Would want something that allows me to run games like Witcher 2 on max settings or near max settings on 2048 x 1152. Currently using E8400 9800 GT 2 x 2GB DDR2 Antec Earthwatts EA500 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard ATX mid tower case, What is your budget? Would prefer to spend around $1k but can go higher if extra performance is worth the money. What is your resolution? 2048 x 1152 What are you using it for? Gaming What is your upgrade cycle? 3-4 years When do you plan on building it? As Soon As Possible Do you plan on overclocking? Don't know anything about overclocking but yes, if possible. Have roommates that can help. Do you need an Operating System? No Do you plan to add a second GPU for SLI or Crossfire? Yes, if you guys think it's worth the money Where are you buying your parts from? Everything Online, U.S. Would also like a 60 GB SSD if someone can recommend one Thanks a lot for your help

Hi you all,
I'm in search for help and suggestions for a computer build for my little brother. His Notebook just bit the dust... Please note that we won't necessarily built the computer on our own, because I'm living too far away and my brother does not have any experience building a computer (so he might buy an already built system, which would shorten the budget i guess). Whats important to me is to not create a huge bottleneck, because I do not have the knowledge to avoid that
Budget: Maximum 800 €, but he needs an OS (100€) and a monitor (ASUS-VW228N; 110€)
Resolution: 1920x1080 (but 1680x1050 is OK too)
Use: Mostly gaming and office
Upgrade cycle: 3+ years
Plan on buying: As soon as possible
Overclocking: No
OS: Yes (mentioned above)
SLI/Crossfire: No
Additional information: He needs a network adapter, because he needs to have WLAN
Where to buy: http://geizhals.at/
Thanks in advance!

skyR, WWW, Mym, Hell (and anyone I might forget), thanks a lot. That build awesome build is presently being reviewed for price matching and it should arrive at home in a few days. I'll assemble it and let you know how awesomely it runs ASAP.

Since I know there is a good amount of us that followed Skyr's setup: i5200k, asrockpro p67, CM Hyper plus 212, 8 gigs at 1333 speed. I am curious as to what is your highest Overclock that is stable and what the settings did you guys used. I think I got it stabled at 4.4 after 2 hours of prime95 but I'll just leave that running for 4 hours or so.

I'll tell you that in a few days :D
