NCIX is great, it lets you pricematch too. I'm in Quebec so I don't pay the HST. Sucks if you're in Ontario now though =(

ah ok thanks for the tips. I'll be sure to compare the newegg prices with NCIX.

and yea, the HST is a pain. =/

Where do you buy parts from then?

Used to be exclusively from NCIX, cause well paying 6% tax and almost everything express shipping was the best. I havent bought anything recently for my computers, but where do you live? I'm currently in Ottawa and we have www.pccyber.com and canada computers just opened up recently.

The prices are the same, if not cheaper, the only reason i'd buy from ncix was the tax overall made the big difference.

I'm in Toronto. I'll be sure to compare Canada computers to NCIX. Before today I hadn't even considered how the HST would burn me. Thanks again for all the advice dudes!

Sorry to post a link, but http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=138060 I was musing over my computer build since theres a package on newegg right now.

AMD Phenom II X6 1055T (Thuban) 2.8GHz 6 x 512KB L2 Cache 6MB L3 Cache Socket AM3 125W Six-Core Desktop Processor (Model: HDT55TFBGRBOX)

GIGABYTE nVidia GeForce GTX460 1GB DDR5 2DVI/Mini HDMI PCI-Express Video Card - GV-N460OC-1GI

ASUS Socket AM3 AMD 785G HDMI ATX Motherboard (Model: M4A785TD-V EVO)
G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Dual Channel Desktop Memory Kit (Model: F3-12800CL9D-4GBRL)

Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 1TB 7200RPM 32MB cache SATA II 3.5" Internal Hard Drive (Model: ST3100528AS) – OEM

OCZ ModXStream Pro 700W ATX12V v2.2/ EPS12V SLI Certified CrossFire Ready 80Plus Certified Modular Active PFX PSU (Model: OCZ700MZSP)

Thermaltake Element G Black ATX Mid Tower Computer Case (Model: VL10001W2Z)

I was wondering if there were any problems with it, issues that might come up, etc.

I don't see anything wrong with that, just make sure to OC your cpu otherwise you're gonna be hurting performance wise

You don't need that many watts on your PSU, and the Samsung F3 1TB is generally considered better than the Seagate 7200.12

As far as performance goes, the CPU will need a bit of an overclock (not hard) to reach its full potential. If you don't need 6 cores, you should consider the AMD Phenom II X4 955, which is a higher clocked quad core with an unlocked multiplier.

Build I created. Looking for some opinions or advice on it. Do not need a PSU because I currently have an extra 650w one I plan to use.
Resolution is 1680x1050.

Let me know if you know some components I could swap out for better performance for same or cheaper price. Really trying to stay within $1000 price range.

Really had no idea of what CPU fan I needed. I wouldn't mind being able to do a small amount of overclocking. Bear in mind that as long as it can run SC2 smoothly I won't need to OC it.

If you're going to pay $180 for a 5770, you might as well spend the extra $20 to get a GTX 460 768MB and get much better performance.

You can get some cheaper 1333MHz RAM for $90. There really is no real difference in performance for the most part.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231190

Your motherboard is not compatible with your CPU either
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131621
this motherboard has similar specs as the one you would get, and it's cheaper.

Yeah What Frag said haha

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121363&cm_re=5770-_-14-121-363-_-Product

180 is a shitty price, for 150 just get asus's cucore 5770 it's just as good.

Beucase there isn't alot of sense of getting a 5770 at 180 when the 460 would only be 20 bucks more expensive

Really appreciate you 2 taking a look at it. Didn't even notice the mobo and cpu issue.

Brought my total cost down to $907. I feel comfortable with Gigabyte never really tried any ASUS products.

Any thoughts on a cpu fan? And do you think I would have any need to OC the cpu?

*edit* And does anyone have an opinion on the case? The one I picked was pretty cheap but had good review. Any thoughts?

You could spend $10 more and get one of the best midsized cases right now (Cooler Master 690ii). That case is good, but I prefer the Antec 300 over it at the same price.

As for CPU fans, the Scythe Mugen-2 should be adequate for your purposes.

Here's my computer build, I've already bought most of the parts, but hey, I'll take comments:

+ Show Spoiler +

CPU:
i7-930 ($200)
CM Hyper 212+ ($30)
AS5 ($8)
CM R4 Fan ($9)
Mobo:
P6X58D-E ($250)
RAM:
GB DDR3 G.Skill Ripjaws 8-8-8-24 ($155)
Graphics:
GTX 460 1GB ($240)
PSU:
850W TX Corsair ($150)
HD:
Kingston 64GB SSD (bootdrive) ($165)
2x Samsung F3 Spinpoints (RAID0) ($130)
Case:
CM Storm Sniper (yeah, really whored out on the case) ($125)
Optical Drive:
24x Asus Black DVD Burner ($30)

In Ottawa, I find the CanadaComputers stores actually have competitive prices compared to even newegg.com. I wouldn't recommend tigerdirect though, their stuff is wayyy expensive. NCIX seems OK though newegg.ca doesn't have the prices of their .com cousin.

Honestly, the CPU doesn't matter that much in gaming. The graphics card setup matters the most.
