Basically, I'm 99% sure I'm gonna get one of the following 3 laptops, so don't waste your time telling me how I should buy a desktop instead. Please, if you would be so kind, just tell which one of these 3 is the best deal and if any one of them would run SC2 significantly better/worse than the others. Thanks in advance.

The HD 5750 performs at the level of the GTS 250, but is more expensive because of DX11 and Eyefinity.

This, I am almost positive sc2 is still on DX9.

As for DX11, I only know one game that has it and that's Dirt lol

SC2 does not use DX10 or 11 afaik, During the beta i tested for it all i could find is opengl and DX9, I was hoping some DX11 would be implemented for release, i do remember them saying something it was something they were interested in but that's hardly a show of dedication.

The RAM is $165 CAD, so it's around $155 USD which is decent price for 6GB DDR3 1600 8-8-8-24 RAM (looking at newegg.com, ncix). I went for AS5 cause I didn't want to buy online for such a small cheap component and pay more for shipping than the actual product.

I can't apply AS5 to my video card?

You can, but there are better compounds, things you usually worry about depends on the orientation of your mobo, Also the thing i would never use AS5 on is my northbridge of vrm cooling or on my laptop. as that is way to close to shorting something out.

And shipping depends, i mean if you're already ordering something from a site they will be shipped together unless the site blows chunks. Either way you're spending 8 bucks on the crap assuming free shipping i rather spend 2-4 more dollers and just go

There is enough of a difference now of days for ppl to stop using as5.

Hey, I am not too much of an expert when it comes to computers so it would be great if someone of you could check this list and tell me if that makes sense or if I should replace some components. Thank you very much :-)

Cpu: i5-750
Mainboard: ASUS P7P55D (If you recommend another one, it should have 2 PS/2)
GPU: SAPPHIRE Radeon HD5770
RAM: DDR Corsair 2x2GB 1333 (I read that DDR3 is not really better than DDR2 for most applications however the price is nearly the same)
HDD: 1000GB SAMSUNG HD103SI
SSD HDD: 64GB Kingston Technology 64GB SSDNOW V-SERIES V+ (putting Windows and Starcraft on it)

What kind of power supply would I need for that setup?

Assuming you're building a "best-value" computer (that is, choosing components that are at the spot where you get the most for your money), you're pretty good, I'd say.

CPU: Should be spot on, unless prices for the i5-750 have risen to reflect the popularity.
Mainboard: Can't really say, I'd love to know exactly why you need two PS/2 ports.
GPU: The consensus seems to be on ATI here. Personally, I prefer NVIDIA, because their Linux drivers are slightly less shitty. May not be a concern for you though.
RAM: Yes. There's also little to be gained from choosing the "perfect" RAM modules. Pick some that are decent, and you'll win/lose 1-3% performance on some fronts at most.
HDD/SDD: I have an Intel SSD, of the 80 GB Postville variety. I'd recommend it - it is a conservative choice. You'll probably be paying more for maybe even less performance, but Intel, according to my knowledge, has had fewer problems with performance degradation. I'm not even sure I've got trim working yet, but there's a special tool that allows you to "wipe" the free space by Intel (I'm assuming it simply fills up the free space with a dummy file, then explicitly trims that one - with the SDD speed, that works pretty fast).

As for the PSU: I run a system similiar to yours (without the HDD, just the SDD and a Geforce 8800 GT as the GPU, MSI Mainboard), the load while playing Starcraft II is < 200 W. I have a 550 W PSU that's certainly overkill. You may want to aim for 400-450 W, which should have ample reserves. The smaller the PSU, the more efficient and quiet it will be. Do not buy a cheap one.

Oh and invest a lot of thought into which case you're going to buy. There's a world of difference between those, especially when it comes to cooling components. In my old case (a Chieftec, not really meant for gaming) the layout was bad, so that heat from the GPU wasn't dispersed and even with 4 extra fans, I could not stop the mainboard chipset from overheating. Now I have an Antec Ninehundred two, and everything runs a lot quieter and cooler.

If you value your data, make sure your HDD is cool (ideally, between 33-39 degrees, not less, not more).

Also, you have a unique advantage since you're German: You can read c'T. I know of no other magazine that can touch it, though you have to be lucky for them to do something that fits your needs at the right time. If you want to know more about a specific topic, it's always worth digging through their articles from the last 4-6 months and reading up about it. They periodically (0.5 to 2 times a year) make suggestions on how to build your PC and these are immensely popular, for good reason.

Final note: If you want a quiet PC, you need be prepared to splurge on the case (the Antec I mentioned is nice), on a decent third-party CPU cooler, the PSU. Basically every component that has a fan in it. You may also want to buy a noise decoupling HDD frame. All in all, might set you back an extra 100-150 EUR, but it's so worth it!

u can find a 1600HZ, DDR3 for less than $100, which is just about the same price if not better than 1333hz DDR2 rams of the same size of market price.
this one for example for $80
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227571

the power supply requirement is really just determined by your parts. there really are good deals lying around everywhere.
this one is a pretty nice deal for $50
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817182173
i can't give u a number on what u need, but i'd bet 700W would cover it.

radeon 5770
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121363&cm_re=5770-_-14-121-363-_-Product
i'd say that's a smart buy. a 3dm benchmark of 1500 for $120 is great. 5770 is more than enough for running SC2 and getting a different card for around 2000 benchmark would cost $80 more.

Why the HD 5830 sucks

When it was first announced, the HD 5830 was supposed to be the card to bridge the HD 5850 and the HD 5770 at the $200 price range. However the HD 5830 turned out to be a disappointment because of its high retail price of $230, and because of its low performance. It failed flopped against the cheaper HD 4890 at $200, and showed very small increases over the HD 5770 which could not justify the $80 price premium. Due to the fact that it was based on a 58XX chip, it was also fairly large and shared the higher power consumption of the 58XX series while offering little of the performance. While the HD 5830 has dropped down to $200 recently due to the release of the GTX 460, we still cannot recommend it because the performance of the GTX 460 at around $200-$230 compeltely outstrips the HD 5830 in every respect.

according to 3dm benchmarks
the difference between it and the 5770 are not "very small increases" it's 450 points. difference.
i suppose it is "very small" only b/c of the expectation that the 58xx series is supposed to be so much better, but consider it in terms of the actual performance margins, not a series category.

and compared to the 470, it's 250 points under. 30 dollars for 250 points, and 80 dollars for 450 points.

i know price and points don't scale linearly, and that 3dm marks from one site isn't the end-all, but that kind of marginal price-to-performance ratio seems nowhere out of the ordinary.

if the 5830 cannot be overclocked as i've heard rumors of, then that would be a different story.

NVM, the 460 is exactly the same price as 5830: $200
