OK, sold.

Will buy tonight after hunting for some Dell coupons and the adapter.

I hope I don't get screwed because they don't ship to Canada or something. Any idea how long it takes to ship? I don't want it to arrive too late to my house since I go to another city for school.

That's the Dell Canada website so don't worry lol. Shipping is free and they give you an estimate of two weeks for delivery but you typically get it in a week.

Dell provides a VGA to DVI adapter with their U2312HM iirc. You'll just need a HDMI to DVI adapter.

680 for £216, what's horribly wrong with it?

It's their pre-order pricing for the 30'th. It was just set very recently.

Pre-order

ETA: 30/08/13

Gumbi said they're trying to get rid of them being older gen (9 series amd gpu's coming in few months, rumor of nvidia releasing something before 20nm maxwell) but that's a super ridiculous price. The full gk104 gpu's (680/770) are usually like £300, but there was a few offers like the directcu II one for £250 yesterday that got raised to £275 for most of them on the "this week offers" on ocuk. I'm gonna monitor prices more closely

Man i could totally do a build with like 4670k, d3h, h100, good case, psu, 8gb 2400 RAM, 120 ssd, 1tb caviar blue, 2x those 680's for like £1150 and flip it for 1350-1500 with oc, that's such a great build. I'm amazed by prices

Reminds me of this

Not sure if people actually got the ud4h's, i know the ones from other merchants didn't. Heard some rumor of amazon honoring the first buyers though

Edit: Some people did indeed get high end boards for under $70 shipped, was chaos for everyone though and probably most of them didn't

There's a lot of benefit from overclocking, particularly in handling CPU bound stuff, sc2, streaming high resolution and fps, i guess rome (but never played or looked into it in particular) so you might want to look into it, but i'll admit current cpu architecture pretty tricky for overclocking. A few years ago, it was super easy for anyone to run a great overclock and simple to set up and to test, not so much any more.. Still good gains though if you wanna get your hands dirty and learn more about CPU's, nothing like having >your< specially tweaked cpu and some nice fast RAM that outperforms everyone else notably that didn't overclock. Up to you though

I'm a newbie at this stuff so I thought I'd play it safe and not risk breaking everything by dabbling with overclocking, but if there isn't much risk of that and there's a good guide somewhere, I'm certainly up for giving it a go.

Is this a build for me? £1200 is still within budget. Hopefully you can give me some links or something though, because I only understood about half the things you said there :D

Out of Stock

No ETA

Looks like they're not gonna sell those GPU's for £216 after all, weird that they set them to that price though and showed some coming in on the 30'th

Can throw up a build (for revision) with links and price and stuff for you Sayle when i got a bit of time (:

I'm planning on building my own kit. It will be my first time so I'm a complete newb, but from what I've heard these days it just comes down to putting the right plug in the right hole. (Right?) I usually have decent insight when it comes to building/understanding things, but I'm still a little anxious.

Questions
+ Show Spoiler +

What is your budget?
I would like to spend between €500 and €700. Lower is better, but I'd rather go for quality/durability over price. If I would be better off spending more (regarding usage), I will be saving up for an additional couple of months.

What is your resolution?
1920×1080 (HDMI and VGA available, would like to be able to use HDMI if possible, but not a make or break kind of thing).

What are you using it for?
Gaming, (occasional heavy) image and some video editing (Photoshop, After Effects, Premiere), print/logo production (InDesign, Illustrator).

What is your upgrade cycle?
2+ years

When do you plan on building it?
Within a month or two

Do you plan on overclocking?
Completely unexperienced so unsure whether to go for it. I would do it if super beneficial and there was a somewhat decent manual.

Do you need an Operating System?
No, but I am planning on partitioning for a dualboot Windows/Hackintosh.

Do you plan to add a second GPU for SLI or Crossfire?
No plans, but if recommended I'm up for it.

Where are you buying your parts from?
I'm in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. http://pricewatch.tweakers.net provides a very decent overview for online Dutch retailers – I can put a list of components together online and then the system tells me where to get what and at what price.

If possible within the pricerange I'm considering to get a small SSD next to a conventional HDD to run my OS' and primary applications on.

I don't have any preferences regarding brands. As stated in the upgrade cycle, I'd like my build to last a while. I'm quite a heavy user, often have several applications (mostly InDesign/PhotoShop/Illustrator) open at the same time for a better workflow.

Thanks for your help!

I think the budget is a bit small, especially if you want some more serious cpu power for video editing etc.

Can you live without a hdd? Because running everything off the ssd is pretty attractive these days with sizes and prices, 250g is well affordable. But if you need more space then you need more space.

Be abit more specific about what games, because to come anywhere near your budget you are going to have to cut corners on gpu and some games don't really need much gpu power.

edit: yeah building is easy, just plugs in holes. If you can assemble furniture then computer aren't much of a step up.

Yeah I could probably live without a HDD, but from what I've seen the more conventional ones are quite cheap these days right? Games will be mostly online/esports titles, DotA2 probably being the most demanding – but as said, would like it to last a bit into the future, although I could probably lower my upgrade cycle a bit when it comes to individual parts.

What price would you reckon I'd be looking at for at least decent video editing?

What is your budget?
1,200 euros (1,600 American), this is the maximum that I am comfortable spending, nothing beyond whatsoever. Honestly.

What is your resolution?
1920 x 1080, 24 inches, but I'm looking for two monitors (they must be two of the same, I can't stand two dissimilar ones standing next to each other). I'll be gaming with one and browsing with the other.

What are you using it for?
Gaming and potentially streaming in the future. I'm looking to really make Battlefield 4 look good and any other future major titles. I'm a real graphics whore and love visuals.

What is your upgrade cycle?
3-4 years at least. I am upgrading from my previous PC which I had for 3-4 years.

When do you plan on building it?
Next month, the 20th of September until the release of Battlefield 4 (October/November). No later whatsoever. I want the PC ready before BF4 comes out.

Do you plan on overclocking?
Probably not, no.

Do you need an Operating System?
yes, win8 64-bit.

Do you plan to add a second GPU for SLI or Crossfire?
Preferably not to be honest, I don't think it's necessary right?

Where are you buying your parts from?
http://www.alternate.de
http://mindfactory.de

It's fine if you use newegg or something, I'll just ask my German friends to help me out.

Here is what I found, but to be honest; I really don't have quite a clue what I am doing:

Motherboard: ASRock Z87 Pro3 (90-MXGP90-A0UAYZ) [91 euro]
CPU: Intel Core i5-4570, 4x 3.20GHz (BX80646I54570) [165,95 euro]
Power Supply Unit: (Antec preferably?)
Graphics Card: MSI N760-2GD5/OC, GeForce GTX 760, 2GB GDDR5, 2x DVI, HDMI, DisplayPort (V284-087R) [213,09 euros] -- Is this a very powerful one?
Operating System: Win8 (74.20 euros)
Case: Antec Eleven Hundred [76,90 euros] OR
Antec Nine Hundred (84.90 euros)
RAM: 2x 4 gigs Kingston HyperX DIMM 8 GB DDR3-1600 (KHX1600C9D3K2/8GX, XMP) [49,90 euros]
HDD/SSD: 240 gigs SSD
500 gigabyte HDD
Cooling: CPU Cooler [Do I need additional fans?]
Optical Drive: 20 euros
Wireless Internet: 20 euros

I need help with monitors too, I like ASUS, but its hard to figure the quality of them via a picture :x

@Metak:

For Hackintosh, I think you have to research carefully about what parts to buy. You have to check what chips the motherboard uses for networking and audio and see what MacOS X can run, same with the graphics card. This site and forum is where you should look: http://www.tonymacx86.com

HDD are cheap but 700 euro ain't much for a computer.

Dota doesn't need shit gpu wise, 7770 (100 euro) will be fine. But if you want to try tripleA games then 7770 won't cut it. tripleA games want a 760 or 770 (225-350 euro).

I think video editing is much improved with an i7. But im not super sure, ill let someone who knows more advise.

Planning to build a new computer. I've built a couple in the past, but this was 6 and 12 years ago respectively! I want it quiet because my old one is really loud and it's annoying.

Questions
+ Show Spoiler +

What is your budget?
£950 (about $1500) absolute maximum.
If there is needless expenditure I'd happily pay less though!

What is your resolution?
Dual monitors, 3360x1050 (1680x1050 each).

What are you using it for?
Gaming (mostly SC2 mind you), programming, photoshop and some occasional video editing.

What is your upgrade cycle?
6 years.

When do you plan on building it?
Within a month.

Do you plan on overclocking?
Probably. As long as its safe and worth doing. I've not done it before, but that's really because in the past I've not had enough money to afford good enough parts. I'll probably only go up a few hundred mhz on the cpu clock (maybe I'm a pussy).

Do you need an Operating System?
No. Will run win7/linux.

Do you plan to add a second GPU for SLI or Crossfire?
No, but I'm open to it if it's recommended.

Where are you buying your parts from?
ebuyer.co.uk

Build so far
+ Show Spoiler +

Fractal Design Case - £87.50

Asus Z87-K Socket 1150 - £99

Intel Core i5 4670K 3.4GHz - £184.54

Samsung 250GB 840 Series SSD - £136.17

Seagate 2TB Barracuda HDD - £65.27

2x 4GB Kingston Hyper X DDR3 2133MHz - £61.98

Be Quiet Pure Power 530W PSU - £66.94

Asus GTX760 Direct CU II 2GB GDDR5 Graphics Card - £214.12

Coolermaster Hyper 212 Evo CPU Cooler - £25.20

Total cost: £940.72

Any help appreciated. I wouldn't mind going a bit more under budget as I'd like a new monitor soon as well. If there's anything I can downgrade for the least detriment in performance and most money return that'd be great. (Maybe RAM? In the past I've just bought cheapo RAM and it's worked just fine... damn EG advertisement getting to me.)

Also, most of the motherboards I was looking at had onboard graphics, should I avoid this since I will not be using it? (Does it add much cost?) Thanks in advance.
