Hey guys, just wondering which one is better:

or

EVGA GTX 560

GTX 560 by a lot, the 670s in ATI are weak cards for 1680 resolutions.

Typo? Did you mean the 6870? Both the 6870 and GTX 560 offer similar performance.

The 6670 which is roughly a $80 card doesn't even compete with a GTX 560 that's at roughly $190...

560 is quite a bit better than the 6670.
560 is a bit slower than the 6870, so its more comparable with that.

No, it wasnt a typo. Just comparing a video card I picked out to one on a pre-assembled computer.

Thanks!

Speaking of which, is there a performance difference between the GTX 560 and its Titanium version?

You're from Canada? Why compare prebuilts when you can get NCIX to build you one with exactly what you want for a $50 fee?

560-ti is quite a bit faster than the 560.
560-ti is, performance wise, near the hd 6950 and the 560 is near the 6870.

No ATI 6870 or 6850 would be more comparable with the 560, Idk much about the TI performance gap, so sorry about that.

Yes, Ti is better.

No. The only card comparable to the GTX 560 is the 6870.

I don't understand why you're asking though since isn't pricing a huge indicator? Why would you price something that is better than a competitor's card for $100 less...?

What is your budget?

$800-$1000

What is your resolution?

No idea, no idea how to check.

What are you using it for?

Purely gaming, sc2/d3 on decent settings/DotA2.

What is your upgrade cycle?

3-4 years

When do you plan on building it?

<month

Do you plan on overclocking?

Not if I can get by without it.

Do you need an Operating System?

No.

Do you plan to add a second GPU for SLI or Crossfire?

Not if I can do what I want without them.

Where are you buying your parts from?

Newegg.ca

Configuration capable of playing current and upcoming games on reasonably high settings at 1080p for $742 before mail in rebates. If you want to use more of your budget, alternatives are listed in spoilers, picking those instead would total to $864. There's not much you can do with such a large budget if you don't need an operating system and you don't want to overclock.

If you want to purchase from Newegg instead of a Canadian retailer than just add ~$100 to the total.

Since low-end motherboards usually only include two SATA cables, you're also need a SATA cable for the SSD if you don't have a spare one lying around somewhere: http://ncix.com/products/?sku=15994&promoid=1307

Will the SSD run games faster? Seems like I could drop that and put the money to a Intel i5-2500K

No, the SSD doesn't improve your FPS in games. It just decreases load times of games, Windows, applications, etc and improves overall system responsiveness.

There's more costs to overclocking than just the core i5 2500k. You also need a P67 or Z68 motherboard along with an aftermarket heatsink.

getting a 2500k will make you need a 25$ cpu heatsink also, and 10$ for the cpu, and 30$ more mobo, and thek version is just for overclocking, if you do not plan on it, it will be a waste of money, as the non k version is the same

the SSD will make loading times faster for everything installed on it

Alright, so i was planning on building my own computer, but then i found out that i can get a discount on dell computers because my father is a CIBC employee, so i have been comparing both builds. For the custom computer i will be buying the parts myself, and i know someone to help me build it.

1. Custom Build:
CPU: CPU: i5 2500k
MB: MOBO: Gigabyte GA-Z68A
Video: EVGA GTX 560
RAM: Gskill 8gb (2x4gb) DDR3 1333
HDD: Seagate 1TB 7200 RPM
PSU: Antec 520W
Optical: DVD Burner: Asus 24x
Case: Antec Sonata
OS: Windows 7 Home Prem
SW: MS Office Home& Student

Total: $1158 + tax note: No monitor, therefore i'd be buying a 24" seperate

2. Dell XPS 8300
CPU: Intel® Core™ i7-2600 processor(8MB Cache, 3.4GHz)
MB: Couldn't find this on list of specs :S
Video: AMD Radeon™ HD 6770
RAM: 12GB Dual Channel DDR3 SDRAM at 1333MHz - 4 DIMMs
HDD: 1TB - 7200RPM, SATA 3.0Gb/s, 16MB Cache
PSU: Couldn't find this either
Optical: Single Drive: 16X CD/DVD burner (DVD+/-RW) w/double layer write capability
Case: Probably some standard Dell case
OS: Windows 7 Home Prem
SW: MS Office Home& Student

Total: $1,238.99 +tax (down from $1,907.99)
Includes Dell ST2420L 24"W Full HD Monitor, 24.0 VIS, VGA Cable supplied only

Hopefully the information was sufficient. Just curious as to what the better deal is. Using this computer for standard gaming uses (SC2, CS:S, TF2, WOW, etc).

with better GPU it would be a better deal, in this case it is not

and btw, that first comp costs like 300-350$ more then if you built the compuuter yourself and buy components seperatly

take the build just above, it's almost 300$ cheaper and has an SSD (but no OS i admit) and is the same then yours

You need to specify exact models for your custom builds. There are dozens of Gigabyte Z68 boards ranging from $100 to $400. You're either paying for a very high-end $200 motherboard you don't need or you are getting ripped off / haven't done any research.

In the Dell, you're paying $100 extra for a processor that provides hyperthreading which is negligible in gaming performance. Here, you can see for yourself (note that 2600k is identical to a 2600 and 2500k is identical to a 2500 besides the unlocked multiplier which probably doesn't concern you): http://www.anandtech.com/show/4083/the-sandy-bridge-review-intel-core-i7-2600k-i5-2500k-core-i3-2100-tested/20 If gaming is your primary concern, this $100 should go to the graphics card such as in the first configuration.

The power supply is not listed because it's some shit unit and the motherboard isn't listed because it usually doesn't matter in prebuilts.. Even with the monitor included and Windows, it's still overpriced at $1239... I don't see how you're getting discounts =\

so you get to upgrade from a 5770 (they're they're same as the 6770s) for minus 80 dollars.

Going from 12GB ram to 8GB doesn't mean anything. You'll rarely ever use > 4, if that.

But you get a monitor....with a VGA attachment wtf? Eh, I guess if the monitor can go with a DVI connection and isn't only limited to a VGA connection, it is a slightly better deal?

Although it would annoy me that I can't overclock the i7, so it will actually perform worse in games than the i5-2500k overclocked.

Yea I'm probably just going to stick with the custom build and tweak it a little more. I've always disliked buying already-built computers, especially from dell. Thanks for the tips everyone!

I'm not sure about your math or where you're getting the components for that custom build, but I'm adding up to around $1020.

Also lol @ that Dell ... without the monitor, the price would be approximately the same as the prebuilt but that's with poor optimization, probably a mystery PSU, and that's at a 35% discount.
