If you don't know how, search for the guide I did on searching TL. Ah thanks. On August 05 2011 07:03 supaplex wrote: giruff, hit my posts, I dont have many. Giruff?!?!! AsRock P67 Extreme6 is probably way overkill unless you're sitting next to some liquid nitrogen for some overclocking e-peen warz. Extreme4 is pretty nice, but again, probably overkill unless you need multiple GPU support (though many cheaper motherboards support Crossfire and SLI), or you really really like that from USB3 accessory lol. Pro3 is where it's at, unless you have good reasons for getting something better. As mentioned, for a single HD 6870 and i5-2500k, all overclocked, above 450W is wasteful. XFX Core 450W is good and already gives you some room to work with. The parts are compatible, yes. Please tell me you're getting or already have an aftermarket CPU cooler, or else why would you want an i5-2500k and Extreme6? @supaplex: Unfortunately I'm not psychic and can't figure out what you need the laptop for, and what would be good. I'm going to guess that it's not going to be for gaming, but that's about it. At that price range, reasonable options are like an AMD E350-based laptop (netbook really) or an Intel Core i3-xxx laptop (not Sandy Bridge as those are more expensive unless you find a good deal). The E350 will have significantly lower power consumption so better battery life given an equal battery, and it also has better graphics performance. CPU performance is a whole lot worse though.

Both those are good in terms of the hardware specs. However, I'd think that the screen, keyboard, trackpad, speakers (though laptop speakers lol?), build quality, and so on are a lot more important than the hardware specs for a laptop, particularly for a user like that. It's extremely difficult to figure out those things by looking at pictures and reviews, so it would be better to go in person to a store and examine the different models...and purchase online if it's much cheaper that way. Depending on the usage, AMD E350 can make sense. If no "heavy" software is being used and the only moderately strenuous thing that the laptop will be used for is webbrowsing and watching videos (sub 1080p), E350 can do that, at a cheaper price, and with low power consumption.

I'm most likely going to be building a computer sometime in September and just wondering if holding off until after the 15th would be a good idea.

Don't count on it but Intel has stated that it is ready to drop pricing (of it's core i7 2600k) if Bulldozer does turn out to be better.

Budget: $700-$900 Resolution: I currently run 1600x1200 but I don't know what I'll be able to run this new computer at because I'll be buying a new monitor soon, probably, and I'm not sure what it will be able to handle. So, I guess just disregard that, hah. Usage: Mostly Blizzard titles. SC2, Diablo 3, and other miscellaneous stuff that isn't too demanding probably. Upgrade Cycle: Well, my current computer has lasted me for a full 6 years. Ya. It's what I've been running sc2 with. Anyone remember amd athlon 64fx @2.2. Anyway, I probably won't last another 6 years, but I'd like to run good for 3-4. Not buying a computer for 6 years is what has me asking for help. So much has changed, I'm in over my head. When To Build: ASAP Overclocking: No Operating System: No SLI: Nah. I'd rather have one fairly good GPU. Again, it'll need to last me a while. RAM: I'd rather have a little too much than just enough. Purchasing: I plan to buy everything online. And, if it matters at all, I live in the states. Thanks again for tips!

Thanks again for tips! i5 2400 or i5 2500 (no K at the end if no overclocking intentions) ATI 6850 1 GB (or 6870 since you don't need an OS and don't plan on getting a new computer anytime soon) 4 GB DDR3 Ram Enjoy the exact same 5 following responses. I would get overclocking capabilities if you do not plan on upgrading or buying a new computer.
