When using this resource, please read FragKrag's opening post. The Tech Support forum regulars have helped create countless of desktop systems without any compensation. The least you can do is provide all of the information required for them to help you properly. |

You can get a cheaper motherboard (h77 or B75), cheaper PSU (corsair CX 430 V2 or equivalent), cheaper case (bitfenix merc alpha, CM HAF 912, etc...)

Buying used is risky as you have no idea how they have treated it. Even if you get a good deal costs of replacing faulty components will rack up the price in no time.
It does seem really cheap though so I dunno probably a case of too good to be true imo. End of the day if your willing to risk it its up to you buty it seems fishy.

Can't comment on that at all, check the phone number with police or something, no idea.

I am looking for around a 1000$ build. I live in canada and will be shopping wherever has the best prices.
Conceptually I'm not vomiting. Without you posting with answers to the OP questions, it's hard to be more specific.

What is your budget? 1000$ before monitor.
What is your resolution? I need to purchase a monitor, help would be nice here too. What are you using it for?
It will be used for mostly gaming, I will not be streaming.
What is your upgrade cycle? I do not plan to upgrade often.
When do you plan on building it? Within a week or two.
Do you plan on overclocking? No.
Do you need an Operating System? Yes.
I do not plan on adding a second GPU.
Is this a good build or what would you guys change? http://gamingrig.blogspot.ca/2012/07/1000-gaming-pc-july-2012.html Sorry for poor last post.

What build...? Sorry but I'm not turning off adblock for a random blog.

Uhm, well, I was really hoping you'd list specific games you're interested in. The GPU is excessive unless you plan to max/near max higher end games at 1080p. Like I said, the build doesn't make me vomit. Since you're not streaming, a quad core isn't critical, but it's a good CPU and in some games it will help, so no real harm.
I'm bad at the specific build list cost optimization, but if you pricematch the shit out of it, it should be good enough.
Monitors, I suggest reading the OP of the monitor thread if you plan to buy a really nice one (expensive). If you're not needing high end features, literally just go to the store and buy the best looking 60hz monitor in your price range. This sounds strange where tech stuff is concerned, but cheap displays are almost all the same, so buy one that you like.
The only questionable part, skyR, is a 670, which may be excessive, and depending on needs, probably loses in price/performance to something AMD.

Thank you for your input. I was thinking about that 670 myself. Is there a GPU that is a bit worse with a nice price drop?

Get an HD 7870 or 7950 for less money.
7950 is similar to 670 for less, 7870 is slightly weaker for more less.
http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/548?vs=550
Both are sufficient assuming you're at 1080p and not maxing AA/AF, which most people don't care about much.
Or maybe even a 7850.

Hey, I dont think the specific build from that blog can come up to $1k in Canada as you wont have the same prices/specials than in the US. As the last guy suggested, post the games that you are intrested in playing now and in the future and you can always compare the builds you get here to the one from the blog (but check their price in Canada) Also you might want to post again with all the answers to the questions on Thursday morning for NCIX's weekly sale (quick look and I didnt see anything extraordinary) If you can get windows from school / friend or family member who goes to school, you will be to save 100$/ or invest it in other components. I also suggest giving your budget for monitor and then people might be able to convince/advice you to allocate your tower/monitor money differently.

Hey what's up TL,
About 2 months ago I posted a build I wanted to buy in a bit but I was told that the build was bad and that I should repost when I'm ready to buy it. The day has come, I'm buying the pieces in the next few days.
What is your budget? 1600-2000$ with monitor
What is your resolution? 1920 x 1080
What are you using it for? Gaming, gaming and gaming. I really want to get the best performance for Starcraft 2 and also upcoming games but mainly maximum FPS in sc2 hehe.
What is your upgrade cycle? 2.5 - 3 years
When do you plan on building it? This week
Do you plan on overclocking? No!
Do you need an Operating System? No, I think I can use the same as the one I'm using right now
Do you plan to add a second GPU for SLI or Crossfire? No I don't think so unless it's really worth it for the money.
Where are you buying your parts from? I'm in Quebec so NCIX I guess
Questions : - Is 2 ms necessary for gaming? I plan on playing on 1920 x 1080 120hz, but it probably doesn't matter - Is NCIX good and safe? What about the warranty policy? - About the keyboard, I've used the black and I found it too hard to press. What do you guys prefer, red or brown?
This is a build I had in mind, but its probably all wrong with full of overpriced shit as the God of this thread would say
+ Show Spoiler + For a total of 1 670$ but I feel like I could add a little extra money somewhere, maybe in the CPU? MoBo? anything for best sc2 performance
Thanks TL i love you

NCIX is the premiere computer hardware retailer in Canada. Warranty is handled by the individual manufacturers. Of course NCIX has your typical 30 day refund / return process if you get a DOA part or unsatisfied. You can purchase extended warranty or advanced RMA if you want to deal with NCIX exclusively instead of the individual manufacturers.
You are not overclocking so get the regular core i5 3570 without the K suffix: http://ncix.com/products/?sku=72278&promoid=1254
You do not need the heatsink since you won't be overclocking. Using the Intel provided heatsink is fine.
A 600w unit is not necessary for such a build. The Antec Neo Eco 450C is currently on sale for $35 and provides adequate headroom for this configuration: http://ncix.com/products/?sku=60491&promoid=1254
Advertised response time for monitors means nothing, don't base your decision around it.
Das keyboard is backordered at NCIX. If you want Das, you should probably order directly from them.

Oops forgot to add the SSD. Can I add the Crucial M4 SSD to this configuration and the PSU? + Show Spoiler +http://ncix.com/products/?sku=60445&vpn=CT128M4SSD2&manufacture=CRUCIAL%20TECHNOLOGY&promoid=1254

Sure.
Also note the RAM you picked is 1.65V. You probably want some kind of 1.5V-rated kit, like this: http://ncix.com/products/?sku=57953&promoid=1254
The Asus P8H77-I seems like a really odd choice, since it's miniITX, which tends to be more expensive, more cramped, and packed with less features than mATX. For desktop builds that aren't small form factor and intended for miniITX cases in specific, most people just use mATX or ATX motherboards. This MSI H77MA-G43 is cheaper, has more ports, and should be more convenient to work with: http://ncix.com/products/?sku=69922&promoid=1254
For that matter, the Inwin Dragon Rider is quite large. If you're worried about thermals, don't be, for a typical single-GPU config.
I would consider spending say $20 more to get a quieter nonreference GTX 680 like this: http://ncix.com/products/?sku=70546
If you actually get a Neo Eco 450C, a GTX 680, and a case with a lot of fans, you'll run out of molex connectors. Everything is pretty overpriced compared to the Neo Eco though, but surely there's room in the budget for something higher end.

Sorry to post again but I'm gonna buy the parts tonight and I want to just confirm the build because it's a huge amount of money for me and I just want to be sure everything is right.
All that is missing is the PSU because it doesn't have enough molex connectors (thanks to mymidon). I've been looking around for one but I'm not even sure what to look for, 6 pins, 6+2 pins etc. What's a high end PSU with enough molex connectors ??
Final build + Show Spoiler +
