Hey Frag, it's ProZeN here again. I bought the Gateway DX 4831-01e http://www.gateway.com/systems/product/529668613.php. I can run the game with an Intel X4500 HD integrated card at around 60 FPS at 1024 x 768 on low, which is definitely playable. However, I do want to play at higher settings as it is a new game and I'd like to play with better graphics. Therefore, I'm aiming to buy a new card. I looked at the ones you recommended: the 5670, 5570, 4670, and 4650, which are all around the 50-100$ range. The Powercolor 5750 you recommended is at around 180$, something that's a bit out of my price range. I asked my friend, who can play the game at ultra, about what card I should get and he recommended the 9800 GT to me, a card which I noted could run the game at high on most resolutions and is at around the same price as the four cards you recommended me.
Would the 9800 GT be a good fit for my desktop or does the PSU once again eliminate that possibility? I would definitely buy it as it's around the same price as the four you recommended me and seems to have the best performance.

Sorry to bump this again, but I srsly would like some advice

you'll probably be able to play at high, and maybe at ultra, depending on whether or not you're cpu limited and your resolution

you're going to run into power supply problems, you only have a 300W power supply, and if you get a card that needs a 6-pin power adapter you're gonna either be really close to, or possibly over the limit.

Zotac vs Asus in Europe is iffy, Asus one has a better cooler but it also cost a premium in the Us this is justified a bit by the excellent warranty and customer service. Imo i'd just get what ever is cheaper, you'll plat the game on high unless you're rocking like a 955 or a i5-750

lol this is my stupid sis laptop and obviously it sucks for SC2,is there any parts i can improve on or I should just get a new desktop

It's a laptop, there's very little you can do other than upgrade the RAM, which you have enough of anyway.
Get a new desktop. i5/i7 platform with a 5850is the way to go right now for price/performance.

I'm actually very impressed with SC2's friendliness with older tech so far. My specs are
OS: Vista CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo @ 1.83 GHz RAM: 4 GB Graphics: 256 MB GeForce 8600M GT Desktop: 1440x900
and I can play SC2 at medium settings no prob, at least 1v1. I suppose a large FFA with hundreds of units could slow it down -- I haven't tested it out yet.

I don't know if this has been mentioned earlier in the thread, but it's not in the first post:
Regarding RAM, x86-64 (64 bit) systems by design use more memory than x86 (32 bit) systems. I think 2 GB is fine for low/mid settings on a x86 system, but on a x86-64 system it's a bit too little.
I run 64 bit Windows with 2 GB RAM, and I have to shut down background processes such as Steam, Skype, etc when I run SC2 in order not to run into problems.
I think (but I'm not certain) that this is what causes the discrepancy between the previous poster's and my experiences:
OS: Windows 7 CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo @ 2 GHz RAM: 2 GB Graphics: 512 MB GeForce 8600M GT Resolution: 1440x900
I run stuff mostly on low, except stuff that solely relies on the graphics card (e.g. shaders at medium).

That looks crazy..How much did it cost you?

Windows 7 x64 Bit 4 GB DDR2 ATI HD 4830 ~2.5 GHz Dual core (AMD) and roughly 500 gigs of HD space... maybe more if I dust off the old one xD
Would it be enough to stream?

I have this # Operating system:Windows 2.6.1.7600 () # CPU type: Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.66GHz # CPU Speed (GHz):2.68 # System memory (GB):1.999 # Graphics card model:ATI Radeon HD 4550 # Graphics card driver:atiu9pag.dll # Desktop resolution:1280x1024
The games run perfectly in low/medium but when start big batles like 150 vs 150 the frames can go to 0... any tips to make better performance of sc2?

The ATi HD 3400 Integrated seems to be able to run the game as well!
It certainly does! My laptop runs the game great (on medium settings)!

Hey guys me again
I was thinking of buying a new cpu that is compatible with my LGA 775 board. I was thinking of getting this cpu here:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116093
I knwo that there are probably better ones, but in that pricerange I think this woulod be the best choice. What do you guys think?
Thanks in advance

what are you upgrading from?
These things overclock pretty well in general, might be good to add in a cpu cooler and just overclock so that you can get away with paying less for your cpu. although, 2mb cache is a little low, I don't know the core2duo line that well so I don't know how much you'd have to pay to get that increased
|
The thing is that it isn't a core2duo but an intel pentium dual core prozessor. I would also buy a cooler for it ofc. I am upgrading my Celeron 440 with this and I don't want to pay more than 150$-170$, because I'll also need a new power supply for any cpu I want to buy
I've got an evga gts250 1gb now and I am just trying to get a better cpu now. Most reviews I read state that this cpu is better than the core2duo e7xxx line and it's cheaper.

Seemed to be blown by, even though I posted on like page 34. I need to change my earlier statement about my computer, now that i have BETA
Resolution: 1024x768 CPU: Intel Pentium Dual-Core E5200 @ 2.5GHz (2 core) GPU: ATI Radeon 3450 HD RAM: 4GB DDR2 Settings: Medium/High at 45ish FPS in large battles.

I have been thinking about buying external graphics card connected via USB port for my laptop (I got intel GMA X3100) which overheats and with 10+ units it gets choppy even with 1024*768 everything on low. >_> Any tips or it won't help at all? Perfect would be something that would allow me to run everything at medium/high at 1920*1280 on external monitor. Can be something more expensive. thx in advance. EDIT: I also got Intel Pentium T3200 CPU so anything that would exceed its capability would be in vain.
