Should run the game flawlessly right?
Yeah if you look at the OP where there were benchmarks on that one site, it shows the 5770 1GB got a minimum of 62 frames, with an average of 69 at 1920x1200 on Ultra settings. 60 frames is the peak of playability I think too

I installed SC2 on my work comp to see if I could play it over lunch. To my surprise, I could. I was surprised because it is a pretty standard developer (read: desk drone) computer. All settings are on low, but FPS is playble (around 40-60 depending on spells/textures/units/etc. at 1280X1024X32bit) .
Processor: Core 2 Duo E8400 wolfram RAM: 2 GB generic HP ram HDD: 200 G generic HP drive "Video Card": Integrated (Intel Q35 Express Chipset family)... Which I think is a GMA3100

Hm decisions decisions.

Just about none. a PCIe X16 is equivalent to a PCIe 2.0 x8 so you really aren't losing too much as long if the card isn't high end.

can anyone with SLI confirm if SC2 benefits from SLI?
Any idea on SLI profiles?

I recently ordered a new desktop with a 5770 1GB graphics card. While I don't have the desktop yet (and so have been unable to test sc2 beta on it), I think acquiring the 5770 is the smart (economical) choice. Benchmarks suggest that the 5770 should run sc2 flawlessly on the (current) highest settings. As the next reasonable upgrade is more than twice as expensive as the 5770, I think that money is better spent on a new graphics card two years down the road. The added performance now is in my opinion outweighed by the added performance of a new graphics card two years from now. This is all assuming you are mostly going to be playing starcraft2.

Yeah that is similar to my reasoning aswell, often it's best to buy just below the newest best thing because that still has an inflated price. And I'm far from a hardcore gamer so if everything just runs ok it's fine with me already. I will definately be playing starcraft 2 and diablo 3, and I want to try out some other games like DoW2 and Dragon Age and be able to play games that are going to come out for some years into the future. So I hope this system will do for that purpose because I already ordered now

Just wondering, if the 260 and 5770 are getting great results and the 4890 not doing too well according to Legion Hardware's tests, shouldn't you switch them in your "tiers"? Or at least bring down the 4890 to the high power tier instead of ultra.

I got a INTEL CORE2 Duo 6420 @ 2.13GHZ Cpu. As my gpu is old I will buy a Radeon 5770 to play SC2 but will my Cpu be good enough or should I get a new Cpu too? My Display is 24 inches.

Dell Inspiron 6000 (circa 2006)
Intel Celeron D @ 1.73 GHz 1.25 GB DDR 400 RAM Radeon X300 Mobile
Upon attempting to install, I was given a friendly warning that my CPU was utterly inadequate! Thanks Blizzard :D
Surprisingly, I'm able to play at 1024X768X16 All lowest possible settings with playable framerates

I'm not quite sure about their tests to be honest. Well currently the 4890 is in both categories so I'm not quite sure about where it belongs. Based on their benchmarks, yeah the 4890 should be in the 'high' power cards, but based on the 4890's general performance, I cannot put it down.

Thanks for this great thread - very useful!
I'm looking at buying a used imac from ebay and wondered if you guys thought this setup should run smoothly on medium settings at lowish resolution:
CPU: Intel Core 2 duo @ 2.4 GHz 4GB Ram GPU: ATI HD 2600 pro
(edit) Some other used imacs I've seen have Nvidia GT 120 - is that a viable card for SC2? Is it better or worse than the HD 2600?

Should run fine at a low resolution.
GeForce 120 = 9500GT = piece of shit

My computer setup that I bought about 3 weeks ago:
CPU: Intel i3 530 2.93ghz (Overclocked to 3.52ghz) Ram: 4GB DDR3 1600mhz OS: Windows 7 x64 GPU: Diamond Radeon HD 4770 512mb DDR5 (Overclocked to 900mhz core / 1000mhz memory)
Overall this system cost me $400 total after tax and everything (I reused my old power supply, monitor, mouse/keyboard, harddrives)
I play SC2 at 1440x900 in Ultra Settings. Everything is maxed. The lowest I dropped to in a full base was 45fps. It averages around 60fps.

Awesome deal man! I'm planning on doing the same thing in the next couple of weeks... currently here is my system.. I probably wont get into the beta because my graphics card is a pos

any thoughts?

I don't think anything you have is up to par except the RAM. :|

Bright, I think you could get away with playing it on low but it might be choppy, I'm not sure.

How can I show the fps? Edit: Found it ctrl-alt-f

thank you for your answers, it is greatly appreciated...

Like so many others I'm looking into a new laptop for this. One I've found is # Processor - Intel Core 2 Duo T6600 / 2.2 GHz ( Dual-Core ) # RAM - 4 GB (installed) / 8 GB (max) - DDR3 SDRAM - 1066 MHz # Hard Drive - 320 GB - Serial ATA-150 # Operating System - Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium # Screen - 15.6' TFT 1366 x 768 ( WXGA ) - 24-bit (16.7 million colours) - CineCrystal # Optical Drive - DVD±RW (±R DL) / DVD-RAM - integrated # Graphics - ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4570
Good enough? my one concern is the Graphics card, but judging by one site that reviewed it and videos I've watched of people using this laptop, they were running MW2 at med settings pretty well.
Thanks in advance
