Intel Pentium Duo 5200 (OC @ 3GHZ)
nVidia Geforce 9800GT (1GB) - Fanless
2gb DDR2
Intel G2 80GB SSD drive
My recommendations would be ~High~ with Textures at Ultra due to having 1GB Texture memory.

The card uses the exact same processing core as the Mobility Radeon HD 3650 (DDR3 version), and DirectX performance as seen by benchmarks are pretty similar. I'm actually using Mobility Radeon HD 3650 drivers on the thing because I don't do any professional rendering/CAD. For reference, the CPU benchmarks around the E7400 and E7500 level. I'm not sure how much worse the mobility version graphics cards are though, hm. Running at 1280x800, medium settings. FPS with not much going on is 45, and typical FPS is 35-45. Maxed supply banelings moving/fighting over Zerg creep goes more like 25, with 20 being the lowest.

Myrmidon - Cheers I only really skimmed through posts, thanks for the info ![]() Fragkreg - Awesome, I'm not interested in running ultra graphics, not really my interest as long as I can play it on release I'm happy, and of course running CSS (My second game) on high settings perfect :D ![]()

Anyways I did some searching and found someone saying that it runs the SC2 beta smoothly in medium settings, 1280x800 resolution, on their 2.16 ghz macbook. They don't give a framerate and don't say much about other settings except to say that it "chokes up on Ultra". No surprise there. So, at least the game is playable on the card, although I was hoping to get higher resolution. Presumably it could go quite a bit higher if settings were low, though. Would be great if anyone running this card could post in this thread . . .

The Gateway DX 4831-01e http://www.gateway.com/systems/product/529668613.php or The Gateway SX 2840-01 http://www.gateway.com/systems/product/529668606.php Both have very similar computer specs with the exception of the graphics cards. They're both the same price, but I think both of them can't run SC2 if I read the chart properly. For the 2840 PC, if I want to get a graphics card that can run SC2, it has to be a half height card and match the 220 Watt PSU. If I want to get a graphics card that can run SC2 on the 4831 PC, it can be a full height card and has to match toe 300 Watt PSU. Which would be the better PC to buy to play SC2? Also, since it looks like I'm forced to upgrade my graphics card for whichever PC I buy, which budget ($50-$100) graphics card upgrade would be ideal for each PC? I know that the PSU limits the quality of the graphics card that you can get, but I don't really have that much knowledge about graphics card in general so I don't know which card I should get. ![]()

5670 has the best performance at around $100, 5570 has around the performance of the 4670 but is at $85ish while the 4670 is at $70ish, and the 4650 is the lowest performer at around $50-60 (better performing DDR3 models of the 4650 occupy the higher price areas). I would recommend the 5570 or the 4670 based on price, since the 5670 doesn't improve very much over the other two. Notable about the 5570 and the 5670 however is that they support DX11 and ATi Eyefinity (Eyefinity is running extra monitors off of one card). With Nvidia, I think the only card they have down there is the GT 240, which is actually a good card at its $80 price point. If you don't care about Eyefinity or DX11 (neither of which should matter on a low end card anyways), then you should go with the GT240 instead of the 5670 or 5570. All of the cards should fit on the larger case, but I'm not sure about the smaller case. I think the 4650 should fit because it is a low profile case.

Edit: And is Amazon the best place to buy these cards or NewEgg?

However, it isn't the amount of PCIe slots that are going to be your bottleneck, it's going to be your power supply. Ultimately, your PSU limits how many GPUs you can have, because at 300W, it will have trouble running anything higher than an HD 5670 (imo). I would buy from Newegg. If you can save up some extra money, go for http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814131346&cm_re=5750-_-14-131-346-_-Product It's a very very interesting product from Powercolor. Sure it is about $20-30 more than every 5750 on the market, but it doesn't require any 6pin connectors from the PSU which means it will run on a much lower PSU. It is probably the best GPU you could possibly get for your system (assuming it fits).

You won't need the 1GB versions unless you are planning to play at high resolutions because the amount of GDDR doesn't come into play until bandwidth issues arise. You shouldn't be hitting any bandwidth problems anyways, so if there is a cheap 512MB GDDR5 I would go for it.

Quoting Expensive + Show Spoiler + spend money on dis shit n b set cuz u b swimin dat $ Nvidia 9800GX2 Nvidia GTX 280 Nvidia GTX 275 Nvidia GTX 285 Nvidia GTX 295 Nvidia GTX 470 (When it is released) Nvidia GTX 480 (When it is released) ATi HD 4850X2 Maybe ATi HD 4870X2 ATi HD 4890 Maybe ATi HD 5830 Maybe ATi HD 5850 ATi HD 5870 ATi HD 5970 They will run SC2 to the ends of the earth and back. Semi expensive + Show Spoiler + These cards should be able to run SC2 at Ultra no matter what the resolution. If your card isn’t included it doesn’t mean it won’t handle SC2 at resolution X, it just means based off of the information I have gotten so far, I don’t have rock solid confidence that it will run SC2 at every resolution up to 1900x1200. It is very possible that there are many cards like the GTX 260 1st Gen or the 9800 GTX+ that I didn’t mention which are perfectly capable, but if there is even a shred of doubt in my mind I don’t feel comfortable putting it on this kind of list. Give me more data and this list will be updated. Nvidia GTX 260 (Core 192 and Core 216) ATi HD 3870X2 ATi HD 4870 ATi HD 4890 ATi HD 5770 ATi HD 5830 Conclusion: These cards are all going to be above $160 so be prepared to make a fairly large investment if you want to be able to play SC2 at Ultra at higher resolutions! Mid range + Show Spoiler + These cards should be able to run SC2 on High/Ultra on most resolutions, and while they may get choppy at the highest possible resolution, they are solid performers. Again, I’m being fairly conservative with what I put on this list because there isn’t enough data yet. I would expect all High settings at any resolution lower than 1680x1050. Probably some Ultra as well. Nvidia 8800 GTX/GTS/GS/Ultra Nvidia 9800 series Nvidia GTS 250 ATi HD 3870 ATi HD 4770 ATi HD 4830 ATi HD 4850 ATi HD 5750 Conclusion: This is getting closer to the budget line. Some of the cards like the 9800 series, GTS 250, HD 4850, and HD 5750 don’t quite look like they belong here and could easily be higher up in the hierarchy. Give me more data! what's your processor? I assume it's not 3,2 ghz single core processor...
