If achievements unlock stuff, people are going to do what they do in Team Fortress 2 and other games.

Achievement farm.
4.0 GPA = A rank 5.0 GPA = Olympic --------- Bisu, Best, Fantasy. i ♥ oov. They can get in my BoxeR anyday.

I don't get how people can be against this. The 3d model artists at Blizzard have way too much time on their hands so having models be unlocked with marginal differences not only does it not detract from working on other things that could be more important (one artist working on different variants of models could be done in 1 business day), but it makes 0 difference in gameplay since the difference in appearance will obviously be marginal (different weapons for dts and shit).

Coding it would take like 2 hours.

I'm not personally against it, but things I can see are:
-It would get confusing if there were too many different models (unlikely, of course, unless things started getting out of hand a la Mortal Kombat Armageddon)
-It would serve no purpose as people would just achievement farm
-It just feels overly gimmicky

Oh and most importantly it wouldn't be exactly like SCBW

i would really like different colored creep for zerg. Maybe white so it looks like snow or red so it looks like fields of blood.

Maybe
- New possible shapes for your teams emblem (if its not 100% modifiable anyway).

it's a good idea in theory...however, say if one model is larger then the other, and it pokes into your vision from the FOW, is that fair? New skins would totally be legit though. But really, i'm just concerned that SC2 will be good :|.

i dislike this alot because i actually liked TF2 before, and tying stuff to achievements ruined it.
everybody where playing like assholes to get stuff, and it ruins doing actually cool stuff because everybody ahs already done it, you can't really talk about how awesome the SCV rush was when half of bnet already got the SCV rush achievement because they wanted a new skin, it turns something special into a commonplace task.

just having acheivements is fine, you get a little badge for tripple nuking someone or stuff like that, but when you NEED to do things like this for a reward they're not something a little fun on the side anymore, it turns into work. And it's often stuff that isn't considered standard play, so imagine playing on the ladder for a day and all your opponents try worker rushes for achievments.

why have it unlockable in the first place? why not just give the players the content right then and there?

New models would confuse waaay to much imo.

I would like it if you can pimp your Battle.Net-profile with some archievents or somethin'. I mean, it shouldn't affect gameplay.

You already have that in DoW2:

- achievements
- new unit armour at certain ranks you get for winning online games

It's a nice touch. But has to be done carefully. In DoW2 it was pretty easy because the differences in armour were rather subtle in most cases and you operate as squads there so you automatically see what's what. In SC it would be a bit trickier as you have tons of individual units and if the model changes would go too far it could create a lot of confusion. Especially for new players, who'd have to play against someone more experienced who has unlocked a lot of that stuff and all of his units look different now. Just imagine you've been playing against the computer to learn the basics, enter bnet and you get attacked by something you have never seen before...

actually the icon idea + custom UI in game. i mean like different colour frames, outline for the control part in the bottom. in sc, zerg always had the brownish buggy UI, protoss the gold colour tech UI, and terran, silver metal UI. that is something should be changeable and custom editable.

I'm fine with achievements and all that, as long as it doesn't say what you have to do to unlock it. Anyone that have played WoW would know that things like that make people play like retards; I don't want to face newbs in SC2 trying all sorts of weird strategies against me to unlock some kind of reward, I want them to play seriously.
1000 at least.

Good points everyone is making. I think the concensus is that the changes shouldnt be too big to negatively impact gameplay. So let me ask this. If the skins were the same kinda changes as the Dark Templar variation would that be ok?

Thats why I think that skins should only be unlocked by the number of wins you have (like in WC3 with icons). Basically it keeps the game new and fresh for people who play allot. I think that things like "worker rush while a nuke is falling on your neural parasited MULE" should be left for achievements.
