the new multiplayer backdrop is so...beautiful. *drools*

They should move that flying unit to the side a bit though.. or does it move like WC3's backdrops?

That's your opinion. So in your opinion, what looks "pretty bad" about it? How do you know the look of this one LAN menu applies to all menus? In any case of yours, I think simplicity with taste is the best policy when it comes to UI's. There will certainly be animations like a big metal door closing-in over the bg, opening to a new UI, and other stuff like that, which I don't think you've taken into account.

The bg is animated, which means that flying unit's going to be moving around. You can see blizzard moving toward this style of interface/bg with WCIII and WOTLK.

the new hive... not feeling it. zerg shouldnt be so symmetrical. all the zerg units and buildings..just look like infested protoss stuff.

also that LAN menu... i dont think it will be available for the beta or full release. just to another example of what could be implemented but shall not be due to corporate interests.

only time will tell. its about muthafukin time.

So I've seen a lot of paranoid people saying "like omg there will be no LAN," but the game UI screen says "local games." Is this proof of LAN? :s

I kind of like the UI for the multiplayer, it's just that it takes up a bit less space as compared to the overall screen. Maybe making the menu size to screen ratio similar to WC3 would be better?

If you look at the SC2 general discussion forums there is a new post like everyday titled "WTF WHY DOES SC2 NOT SUPPORT LAN?!"

Broodlord's resemblance to large flying drones does not go unnoticed.

Corruptor is indistinguishable from a ground unit in the given shot.

I really hope there are no 'big closing doors', it wouldn't fit with the bg at all and is such an ugly way to change screens...

yeah...i think it goes like this...someone makes a rumor that sc2 will have no lan. blizzard totally ignores the rumor and the fans conclude that it must have no lan even though blizzard is ignoring the rumor, they seem to think that means there is no lan.


in response to the posts about the pink color...
i hope sc2 has the green green color that starcraft had for ice and desert tilesets.

in warcraft 3 they had a bright green which looks like zerg baneling and spawning pool and baneling nest color, so obviously it would be bad to use that same color for team color, so it seems likely they'll bring back the green green from starcraft broodwar.
yeah war3 had a bluegreen/aqua/teal/cyan whatever you wanna call it...and then there's the dark green/dark aqua whatever it's called...and then there's a silver blue color...which looks a lot like the light grey color...and instead of a normal orange they have a yellow orange which looks like their yellow because it's got so much yellow in it.

kindof annoying i always have to switch between true colors and allied colors to figure out who the players are talking to and then switch back before i get into a battle or else i won't be able to tell who is on what team during the battle...pink is a fine color it doesn't really look like the other colors so that's good...purple and pink could look similiar but they don't.

i just, really hope, that starcraft 2 keeps the By tileset law of what colors are allowed.
in warcraft 3 you could like pick a color that was good for a terrain because there would be so much of that terrain on the minimap. all the colors were 12 colors plus 1 for no color for neutrals. every tileset had the same colors. but in broodwar in twilight you couldn't be blue...in ice tileset you couldn't be white and in desert tileset you couldn't be brown...i think that's how it went. of course this sort of thing ought to be melee map only. you can still make a custom with whatever colors for the players you wanted but then it wouldn't be classified as a melee map. that's how i hope it'll be...so i guess if there were some pretty pink paradise tileset then you wouldn't be able to be pink cuz it'd be unfair...lol.

It is pretty safe fo say that all in-game backgrounds and probally bnet background too will all be animated like all of their last released games (WIII: FT and WoW).

And there's just no way they could cut lan games from SC2. It wouldn't make any sense and suck completly for offline tournaments.

I hate the Broodlord. Maybe the only unit right now that I think looks really bad. I'm just hoping he features some kick ass attack animation to make up for it. The Infestor looks awesome.

The menu UIs were different in War3 betas compared to release; I wouldn't worry about them too much.

I hope there isn't any delay switching between menu screens like in War3 (IE: chains/doors). Or if there is, hopefully you can turn it off!

There are no lurkers in any of the screenshots. The tarantula things in the first screenshot are are corrupters. It's hard to tell they're flying.

Probably because its not even close to be being done. I imagine that would be one of the last things they finalize. Content is priority one.

Only because you have no frame of reference.

Anyone who had not played bw or sc1 would look at a simular screen shot and think the same thing because they don't recognize any of the units or structures. When you look at a screen shot of bw you understand only because of your prior expierence.

Also you are watching a still shot. When animation is occuring it becomes a lot easier to figure out exactly what object is doing what instead of having a "out of context" view.

Personally I think the game is comming along great graphically.

Corruptors and stuff are ok, its the nonmoving part that makes it weird, the whole game looks so different when its animated (as you actually know from experience :p).

Goes like this:
Blizzard announces Diablo 3 will not have LAN.
People start a discussion about it, and ask themselves what this means for SC2.
Rumour about SC2 not having LAN starts.
Blizzard doesn't answer questions about whether SC2 will have LAN or not. (tried to find out several times, but they don't seem to want to reveal those things yet, maybe it's still up in the air?)

My impressions:

- New corrupter is great, resembles a big Tick
- New hydra art is awesome, the tail with team color is good to help in diferentiation
- Roach Warren update a bit strange to me, the big spikes appear to be bigger, cartoony
- Battlecruiser resembles a SD (super Deformed) toy
- New broodlord demands a rework urgent. Noone like it. When saw from behind its ok,
resembles a Manta Ray, but from the front its like a bad make Guardian (and guardians must be crab like) The old Caterpillar aspect is waaay nicer.

In general found it very nice, except for the issues i pointed above.

I'm gonna have to disagree about the Roach Warren and the BC. I think they both look fantastic. I agree that the Broodlord could use a makeover.

I sincerely hope there won't be shit like this in it. Sure it was cool the first time, but after a week it was just plain annoying.

I think they're zerg buildings mid-production. They're glowing pink because the player color is pink.


If that is true that is awesome, the zerg with pink team color in general looks pretty cool!

But that would mean that a teal zerg's drones would have teal flesh connecting it's bones, and the overlords vespene sacs would be teal :x
Guess I'd have to see that in play though.

i like the old sc graphics better. halo 3 and sc 2 give you a plasticy kind of feeling. as if you're playing with plastic spaceships.
im the only person i know of to overuse scouts

No I too like the old BW look better. Same sort of graphics with higher resolution than 640x480 would've been perfect for me. But considering they pretty much have to make the game 3D these days, this is probably the best they could make it look.

I concur. I don't like the look at all. Then again, it might just take some getting used to. I'm curious to find out for myself either way.

This is the impression I got from the blue posts on the subject on the forums a while back. Stacking is still posisble but because they spread out more quickly your ability to perform other tasks (such as build or command other units) is severely limited during the process. Which is a fair trade off.

If this is the case, it allows the attack to be countered either by the use of units to intercept the mutas, or by creating a distraction elsewhere to force the Zerg players hand into changing tasks.

It also has the added benefit of making muta stacking a more 'powerful' skill for a pro than a regular player because they will be able to squeeze in more macro and micro of other units while maintaining control of the mutas than anyone else can manage.

Sorry I can't really find this video on youtube, maybe it got deleted...
Anyway it was Z v T on some desert/rusty terrain. Zerg had lots (maybe 15) mutalisks, which were in formation of a ball right next to eachother, and some other units, but he got owned badly by lots of marines and probably marauders.
This is all I can tell...
