Key points:
- Fomos reporters were given 45 minutes to take a look at the latest SC2 updates today (21st May 2009)
- Boasts an 'observer mode' that will help reach new heights for competitive e-Sports
- When in observer mode, observers can:
> go on a 'none' mode, meaning no menus will be shown
> Can also choose between the following 6 types: Resources, Spending, Units, Production, Army, APM

Resources mode:
> Menu shows resources gathered by players, as well as their supply count

Spending mode:
> Can see where and how much the players are spending on these 3 areas: economy, tech and army

Unit mode:
> Shows the units' icons and how many units the players have in numerical figures

Production mode:
> Shows what units and buildings are being built, and once they are built, they will be removed from the menu

Army mode:
> Shows amount of minerals and gas spent on the units

APM mode:
> Shows players' APM (Action-per-Minute)

Nice.

An ability to switch to first person would be a welcome addition.

Would be great to see some screenshots though.

I thought they were going to add a first-person mode.

wow it would be awesome to have in-built first person mode (tho that would probably be really hard to pull of for blizzard)
The problems would be lag
I think the only way an in-game FP view would work is if the commands to move the screen around that the player issues are given directly to your screen aka.

1)Flash presses the left arrow key.
2)The interpretation that left arrow key = move screen left is given to both your and his computer screens.
3) both your screens move at the same time.

If it were a pure FPVOD style view, you would have to wait for Flash's screen to move, then your computer would think "omg it moved!", and then your screen would move -> takes too much time.

On another note, what i think would be quite cool (though possibly confusing) would be to have not only where the player clicks appear on the map, but also their cursor, so you can see just how imba their apm is (think Jaedong).

Sounds good, but I hope these "mods" wont be mutually exclusive. Like I might want to have multiple windows open on the screen that show ressources, unit count, upgrades etc... all at the same time.

Then when Bisu multitasks everyone would have a stroke.

FPM (first person Mode) isn't included on the list over NEW things because it was one of the very first replay features that were included in the SC2 alpha. Even Warcraft3 had FPM included when it was released.

Sounds awesome, I have had good time playing with some of my friends where some of us go observer if the player count is uneven or if we can't be there all the time due other things, this'll give some nice options to check different things while scrolling around as observer.

League observers will definately put these in good use =)

This will be cool, i just wonder if you can combine the modes so they display two of the modes at the same time if possible. Like resources and unit, or apm and production.

IDK, they didn't said anything about combining. But you can switch between the different modes during the game.

The first person mode in War3 isn't a true first person view at all, though.

edit: and they call it Auto Camera in War3.

This. I watched a Bisu FPVOD yesterday, and it was nuts. I've watched some pretty quick FPVODs before, including most of Nony's and some fast Korean pros, but I had major trouble keeping up with what was going on on Bisu's screen.

The auto camera in WC3 sucks major ass. Like SoleSteeler wrote it isnt a true FP camera. It just scrolls your screen where the pro has his. The point is, the pros dont scroll from one point of the map to the opposite, they click the mini-map to insta teleport their view there. In WC3 the camera just scrolls retardedly around the map at snail like speed.

This is wrong, it doesn't have screen where the player has it.
And yes it does suck ass.

The auto camera scrolls to where the player currently has selected, yes; however, since players often jump around, it isn't a smooth process at all and is just wild and disorienting.
