Sup dudes and dudis,
Content: # INTRO # POLL # OPTIONAL # EXAMPLE answer
######################################################## # INTRO for examining Sc2: Skill-Mouse-DPI-correlation and other skill theories, I am asking you for help by answering this poll. The tests should only take 60 seconds or less each. It's two + four optional ones. Please don't "train" them, just take them - of course if you "need" to (didn't know what to do), you can redo. Hopefully they are also a bit fun to you and not too easy
######################################################## # POLL Would you please state your...: 1. Mouse-DPI (If you do not use a 51% to 54% starcraft mouse-accuracy, or if enabled a 6/11 windows setting without acceleration, please state it here Edit: Question about this answered in post#3.)
2. Screen Resolution
3. Challenge Results in... a) ...Starcraft 2 ~(start your game / Custom Games / Arcade: Server: EU Mouse Trainer (version 1.8) (EU) Required: Please deactivate Team-colors. (ingame) (it's off by default) Hint: + Show Spoiler +You can only select 1 marine at a time. Other marines will move back to their original position. F5 restarts. notNeededButCanBeHelpful: Save your initial camera position.
b) ...Starcraft 2 ~(start your game / Custom Games / Arcade: Server: EU, US, KR iceman's mouse accuracy trainer (version 1.0) Hint: + Show Spoiler +Super Simple Map, but needs a good minimap precision. Time limit: 60s.
Thanks in Advance!
######################################################## # OPTIONAL, only 60s each, they are relatively "hard" and different. If you are able to use FireFox-Browser (or IE) and FlashPlayer I'd also appreciate to take these neat little tests that I created: (sorry if you "can't"!) Hint for this program: + Show Spoiler + - You are free to use most keyboard buttons and mouse-buttons to "shoot". - You can change the color and other appearance-settings @cog-wheel.
c) Large Scale AimChallenge for Sc2: Link: http://aimbooster.com/s/PRUFsUe Required: Please press the Enlarge-Button (left of the Speaker button) before pressing "Start". Hint: + Show Spoiler +Targets spawn pretty quickly over a big area... The spawn speed increases... 3 lives. Miss-clicks allowed. Added minor drifting. Don't worry if it is feels hard, the difficulty is considered.
d) Small Invisible/Memory Challenge : Link: http://aimbooster.com/s/nQUlqPW Hint: + Show Spoiler +Targets come with a delay and in a group. The time is enough to hit them, it's all about actually achieving that rather than speed. In the beginning you will see your pointer. Then it is invisible, duh (please restart if you didn't understand at first)
e) Precision/Minimap Challenge Link: http://aimbooster.com/s/JjQH5H7 Hint: + Show Spoiler +You have 3 seconds for two targets each, edit: a simple "again" is okay if you were surprised by any setting, like miss-clicks making you lose a life.
f) Precision/Speed Challenge (the default aimbooster challenge): Link: http://www.aimbooster.com/ - press Challenge Info: If you reach more than 60s, that's enough for the test, (the information I would use is capped to 60s for your convenience), any time is appreciated though. Hint: + Show Spoiler + Difficulty increasing with time, miss-clicks allowed. ~But...don't look at the timer. There is no time-limit...
FYI: ~if you voted somewhere else there is no need to vote here~ Thanks in Advance!
######################################################## # EXAMPLE answer:
400 DPI
3600x1800
40s 30 marines ~50s ~20s ~5s ~20s ~: Last four are optional, it can be post without "~" (please make sure you are posting in the right order)
# Because this ought not to be a competition thread, but a kind of a "first try" examination, try NOT to look at the other results before posting. Of course feel free to post anything AFTERWARDS.
Thanks in Advance!
# If for any reason you are shy of sharing, alternatively you can send a PM.
Looking forward for your results! Thank you very much in advance!
P.S. Offtopic: The optional are not designed for training but raw measure, training should be individual and adapted to your personal needs and skill.

(If you do not use a 51% to 54% starcraft mouse-accuracy, or if enabled a 6/11 windows setting without acceleration, please state it here) What are these?

If you use 6/11 in windows (or any operating system) it's equal to 51% to 54% in Sc2. Which is to be advised, but personal choice of course.
to check it in Sc2: Start Starcraft 2 / Options / Mouse and Keyboard / Mouse: <your %number> the default %number from Blizzard is 50, the recommended commonly known setting is 51% to 54%, more indepth discussion and revelation: https://tl.net/forum/starcraft-2/165625-mouse-sensitivity-of-6-11-is-not-50
You can also just disable "Enable Mouse Sensitivity", then it will use your windows settings.
If you are not using this standard setting (6/11 windows, 51% or 52% or 53% or 54% or disabled sensitivity in Sc2), then please state your setting. The standard setting gives a good comparison, otherwise I need to know the specific one in use, to better analyze your DPI with your Resolution and Mouse-Skill.
The windows setting is only important (to know) if you do the optional exams, or whether it is the same in Sc2. I'm assuming you know how to check your mouse settings in windows (or any operating system). (It should be 6/11 if you didn't change anything.)

2000 DPI
55% mouse sensitivity
1920x1080
36,54s (*)
39 Marines Moved
~43 sec with 90% accuracy
~12 sec with 7 Targets hit
~25 sec with 8 Targets hit,
~62 sec with 167 Targets hit, 90% accuracy
EDIT: I have to say that I did the first challenge (*) twice, because I literally lost grip of my mouse in the first try and it slipped off the desk :D

22 sec with 7 Targets hit.

Fun games but it seems like im not the most accurat player in terms of clicking

thank you , the mouse trainer is missing (#1), the other result is above average, don't look pls

The Precision/Minimap Challenge is super annoying because it's really difficult to tell where the mouseclick actually happens. And while missclicks are allowed, if you click "near" a target, it immediately disappears and counts as a full miss.

800 DPI 6/11 windows no acceleration -> 50% sc2 (edit: i changed to 51% after read the post but didnt notice any change)
1920x1080
a) 42,34s b) 35 marines c) 0:13 96,2% accuracy 26 target hit d) 0:17 71,4% accuraccy 10 target hit e) 0:51 f) 0:58 (i was watching the time to get 60 sec and failed lol) 96,2% accuraccy 155 target hit
Damn i suck, I'm too slow TT
MMR: 5k

Thank you @Zeusintheair, indeed, a 5% change isn't noticed easily.

And while missclicks are allowed, if you click "near" a target, it immediately disappears and counts as a full miss. First of all, don't worry. Although I Warned not to look at other test results before posting/doing. -The test is not to annoy you, it's all play-tested. -The optional tests are all somewhat HARD, on purpose. -All ranges from 10 to 60 seconds are NORMAL, a lower value is accepted, TOO.
So secondly and frankly, I don't see how that (see Quote) is my problem =) - I rather Helped you find Your one. In Exchange for your Data please - Not a bug but a feature™. It is literally the point of this very specific test e), how accurate you can click at one point (every detail in these custom tests has a strong reason and correlation to sc2 and skill studies, if you want to believe it or not). - All other tests are looking at other things to measure.
Thirdly, anyways: - the Timer in test e) was designed (and is) to be very Generous for the small area, & the two targets spawn relative close -The lose life once spawned is on purpose, otherwise you could spam 20 times near the target, not the point. I am sorry for the misunderstanding + Show Spoiler +(Because it's only two targets in a big timer, there is no disadvantage in spamming, compared to other tests, every test is different, and needs different settings, more info: internally there is a difference between miss target and miss click, though stating it in the common tongue to public is sometimes not trivial). -More nice words about the test ranges: + Show Spoiler +With some mouse-settings you might be PRO in one test, and not so good in another. I seen some set first-time records in one test, while they had the worst in another. I also got some positive feedback about at least one of them being an eye-opener and they now use the test to fix a problem, but that was not the intend at all - and really there is no intend anywhere to brag about anyone nor is competition the intend.
Conclusion: - Just do the test once & redo if you were surprised (like the lose-life you pointed at) (no training), ignore the other people, and thanks (if you wrote any details I might have also given a tip) - BTW: You can also write a pm for the results or feedback. 100% discretion, of course. - Thank you. - That being said, all challenges will stay the way they are, since release - let alone for comparison.
PS: -You can set your mouse cursor size in windows to fit the size in sc2, also your mouse cursor might have a different color wrapping at its edges, of course there are pages more of information, note I have no information about you. - I.e. If you use weird color settings, you can easily change the colors of the web-app by clicking at the cog-wheel. - If you are really interested, I can also give you a training with a bigger timer, +1 pixel etc.; internally i made about 100versions...
Disclaimer, big letters might be intentional Eye-Catchers and are not reflecting any kind of mental state.

Would be good idea to put the MMR of each player...
I edit my post with mine
|
Thank you for the suggestion.
Well no, that would go into competition, etc, and I found long ago league and similar should not go into the determination, at all, (since you can't simply get the information afterwards I had to go through all these thoughts first). Your mouse and my examination has nothing to do with game-knowledge and strategy , let alone this test not only being posted to sc2 players, but other rts, i.e. broodwar, age of empires,
So I don't really want it. (many reasons). Okay, I tend to write too much, but this should be enough (damn it, already 2-another sentence-s edited, edit: 4 hah)
As a result it's completely voluntary and merely interesting, kind of a give back to the community. I won't suggest it or want to force it, but it's welcome, you can state it, but only the league is noted (I use an MMR list correlation to leagues for the avg). I looked through some tests where they included the league, anyways it's not the point of my poll
Long story short point: Yes it's interesting, but I can't use it - since it compares skill-crossover and in another form.

Haven’t sat at my computer for near a month now but once I get back to familiarity will give the test a whirl. Pretty interesting stuff!
