With JYP leaving for military service, TY took up the 3rd spot to cast the GSL season 2 finals.
As a huge TY fan, I wonder what that means for his career plans. He qualified for season 3, but his last GSL outings just looked very lack-luster with his mentality crumbling in the first two games vs. Trap in season 1and his early defeat in season 2.
Has somebody more information on his plans, wether this casting gig was just a one-time thing or is he planning to retire as a progamer and get into casting/coaching Special (see group selection)?

While I don't know any details, I still find it highly unlikely that TY will continue on as a commentator. He may look fragile at times, but he still is one of the few elite Terrans left in Korea, and I doubt his current level of skill is so bad he's looking to move on.
While this does cast a big doubt over who's going to take over JYP, I again can strongly believe TY wont be the one to replace him full time.

On the subject of the thread, TY probably continue to compete and cast on the side. Shine was the GSL observer and still managed to maintain a high level (in BW).
If he's just doing sc2 casts it's not like it takes that much time out of the week.

Shine has done great as an observer and player. I think something like this can be healthy and give players a new way to think about the game.

DeMuslim can top JYP, but certainly not TY.

TY is too good to stop investing in his pro career for casting, but I do believe that he will kill it in both

Unfortunately I don't think he can devote himself to playing full time but I think he will still be a good player. Wasn't Polt kind of in a similar situation in the US? Not sure if he was playing/competing full time either since he was in university in the US.

They have to do it now, or else. TY has even attained a pretty decent level of English.

Agreed, fantastic work by the dark lord.
I remember previously that TY on a few podcasts or bits for Korean SC2 that he has some comedic chops and could do well if he continued doing some casting. As long as it doesn't effect his current plans as a player, why not?. Best of luck to him.

It may well be a good thing for his performance for all I know. Mentality is a strange thing, in theory focusing on nothing but competitive Starcraft should make you better at achieving that goal, but on the other hand it adds a crazy amount of pressure, your own sense of self-worth etc on your performance. If you're doing nothing but competitive Starcraft, you better damn well succeed in it.
I watched some streams he did with Special and NoRegret and he seems to enjoy communicating about the game with others, he's learning English etc.
It's difficult to put yourself into the shoes of someone else, especially someone you don't really know at all, from personal extrapolation I'm pretty decent at guitar, but hypothetically if I was in a situation where I was just rammed in a chamber and had to practice 8 hours a day in a zero sum 'be one of the best at your thing or you're a failure' that would quickly kill my love of it. I still pursue it as a hobby, but I enjoy talking about it with other guitar players, teaching my little sister how to play etc, and that really helps me mentally in that space by associating with people who are impressed by me, vs my own self comparison which is to my guitar heroes.

I do think he will continue on as a commentator, while maybe not in the short term but looking for options for the potential future is never bad, eventually he will have to retire as a full time progamer and becoming a caster is an obvius career path.

He will go back to BW baby and play as BaBy again! But seriously I think he's not done yet, he was one of the best players and best terran only 2 years ago.

TY could be great as a caster too. He was hliarious in an Ultimate Whining Battle.

Honestly I think if he was interested and they could sign him, they should sign CranK more than anyone but TY was good.
