You can participate in WCS, and keep an eye open for smaller Lan in your area, facebook, reddit and twitter can be good place to look, liquipedia dosen't list all the smaller lan. If your in a big city going to your local esport bar/café can be a good option too.
However it will 100% cost you more money then you will earn, if you ever earn any. If you want a feel of it online you can try go4sc2 or any small online cup even in the small 25 or 100$ event you will probably not win more then one series if your MMR is around 5000 (so I guess master 1-2).

But if you just want to compete it can be fun go for it, just go into it expecting to get smaked around quite a lot. I only played in one Lan (Ets 2016) and at diamon 2 at the time I was clearly outmatch by everyone but still had a good time.

that's not even really an answer. start here if you want to compete. more realistically, join a clan on NA or something and they will help you compete for them and possibly for money if you get good enough.

try to participate in Chinese tournaments
like kung fu cup ($500 weekly)
or offline WESG ($200k for the 1st)
these are easy money for foreigners
China have a 1.3 billion market and mountains of money

Chinese online events are dominated by Koreans and top tier Chinese players. Most NA players don't even stand a chance.

Do it if you want to have fun at a tournament and meet other Starcraft nerds. Unless you are at least in GM don't expect to make any money, maybe if the lineup is really weak you could brake even.

Check the Liquipedia pages from Players, they list total price money won. On top of that its twitch subscibers + Team salary.
