Not much else to it from the news article, besides Jin Air affirming their commitment to operating the team in 2018.
The roster also remains unchanged: (Z)Rogue, (P)sOs, (T)Maru, (P)Trap, (T)Cure and (P)Creator will play for the team next year.

Don't really see that much of Cure these days, I'm surprised he's still around. Either way, great news

Given that Jin Air have no real competitors in Korea, I wonder why they don't try to switch out their weaker members for the best players available?

Perhaps they just can't offer salaries big enough to lure back some of the big names, who are hooked on freedom after finally getting out of the teamhouses.

AdministratorHey HP can you redo everything youve ever done because i have a small complaint?

I actually disagree, I was surprised Jinair decided to stay and with this roster, given how the team preformed in individual leagues.

Rogue was godlike in the second half of the year and is a top5 player this year.
sOs did really well in GSL, but was lackluster otherwise. Since the 2 events he preformed really well in was GSLs that still makes it a strong resume.
Maru got top4 at a GSL, but didn't come close to anything else, besides the not very stacked WESG event.
And I mean, you can barely comment on the other players. Creator and Cure played one event each and did nothing(are they even playing actively?) and Traps best preformance is 2 ro16 appearances in the GSL.

This leaves me quite confused as to why JAGW wouldn't swap out at least 2-3 players for much stronger players with much more potential to preform. Free agents include: Dark, Inno, Soo, Dear and Zest, and you could probably include other players whose sponsors are super small and nowheres Jinairs magnitude.

The only guess I can get is that either the players left in JAGW just stay the same because they have more of a family feel betweem them, so the players/staff there don't focus too much on having the best/most marketable team possible as long as the world goes around. Another theory is that all the top players don't think whatever salary and teamsupport JAGW offers is enough to sacrifice their sense of on-the-spot freedom.

Because nobody likes teams which only buy the best players. Especially kinda awkward in this situation.

dang if those jackets were the same price for the old SKT/KT things I woulda bought one so fast. Cool to see the team supporting another year of content. I imagine, if anything, people will be more interested in getting back into SC2 once things like the olympics start rolling around in the coming year etc. Those will certainly be a game changer, if not for team sponsorships, for international "clubs", national pride/competition. It's definitely something I could see the U.S. investing in at a later time. We hate losing after all!

Really a nice gesture of charity from Cure, considering that he will make more than 400K next year between Blizzcon, GSLs and Katowice.

Rogue got GSL ro8 twice, first in Shangai/ST2/blizzcon. sOs got GSL final/ro4 and played in SSL premier for a season, Maru got GSL ro4/ro8, WeSG final, and played in both SSL premier seasons.

I don't understand how you can look at these results and say the team was lacking. Trap and Cure had their focus elsewhere sure, but the big 3 did fine

I would imagine they didn't swap players like Creator for INnoVation because INnoVation probably would want a much higher salary than Creator.

On that note, I hope Rogue got a pay raise.

??? There's still a bunch of individual leagues. If there was no incentive at all, then they wouldn't have a team at all. Even if you take the ultra-cynical view that the SC2 squad is literally ONLY there because a rich heiress likes StarCraft, the team has always operated in the past with the goals and objectives of a "normal" team.

I'm not sure on the exact specific of the economics of teams sponsoring players, but there absolutely would be diminishing returns. e.g. I might buy some team paraphernalia because a team has a player I like, but I'm not going to buy 8 if they have 8 players I like.

This situation is a little silly though, there is a lot of teamless or shit-teamed koreans and a group that randomly hit a jackpot of being on the one team that stayed, not sure if I can be happy about it. What ro teams even mean without a team league?

This.
JinAir already has Rogue (Blizzcon winner, Sexy Boi and well known proleague sniper), sOs (2 time Blizzcon winner and well known out there player in general) and Maru (Maru). It's not like paying for Gumiho or something is suddenly gonna make that many more people buy their stuff, or notice them as a team.

Also people don't have as strong associations to new pickups. Even if they did pick up Innovation or something, for a lot of people who follow the scene, the new pickup isn't going to have the history of team association. Proleague was really really good for tying eccentric players like Rogue and sOs to the JinAir image.

Unless you're intimately familiar with the inner workings of these teams, how can you say that the players on Jin Air have so much better deals than those on foreign teams?

Great news!

I'm especially excited knowing that Maru gets what may be his last remaining chances at a GSL title! My hope is that his body can hold up a bit longer so that we may be blessed once again with the opportunity to witness the kind of inspirational play we all know he is capable of showing...

Rogue is very literally the last player in SC2 that needs a pay raise right now. Rather, since KeSPA teams take a portion of a champion's prize money, I hope they gave some of Rogue's winnings to the other players on the team.

Surprising. When they didn't send any players to IEM Katowice I assumed the team won't last much longer.

I would imagine they didn't swap players like Creator for INnoVation because INnoVation probably would want a much higher salary than Creator.

On that note, I hope Rogue got a pay raise.

Exactly, and without proleague there is really no incentive to have the most stacked team possible

I don't think, that this logic fits. JinAir might have 3 high calibre players but fans don't like every player who is successful. So, for me, as a fan of JinAir, not adding other players won't change anything, that's right. But for the SKT or KT fanboys JinAir might become a new friend, if they picked up Dark or TY.

Also people tend to forget that we once had a pre-proleague era in SC2. GSTL was mainly irrelevant back then and most focus was on individual leagues. Nonetheless teams were extremely important. Partly because of infrastructure but also because of identification with the pro-scene. IM was the team of great champions, oGs was the team of unorthodoxy, MVP was the team of mediocreness, FXO were the globally connected guys, Prime was the team with one really outstanding player at a time, NSH was the team of rookies, Startale was the one rival IM really had.
Furthermore, I consider that some kind of Code A must be reestablished.

Cure was on Overwatch.

The other JinAir's players wasnt good enough.

But ye, after the kespa team disbands they was like "some month so they can think about their future"

It's well deserved, Rogue had phenomenal results this year, sOs and Maru did amazing as well. I just wish Trap and Cure showed up more

I said Rouge did really good? I also said sOs still did well despite not being consistent at all just because of the tournaments he did well in were really good. The only of those three players you mentioned that I even though had a underwhelming year was Maru(since I don't value WESG that high cuz it wasn't a very stacked event, and he didn't do much in SSL, and for someone like Maru I think you would at least want him to get a better result than a GSL top4, even if that is a great placing for a more average player.

Even if you disagree with me on that, this was in the context of my full comment, where I pointed out that these placings combined with the nothing that you get out of the other 3 players(which I assume still are on the team and paid?) makes it weird to not add any other of the players that had a stronger year than pretty much every player on JAGW except maybe Rouge). Especially since there are many players that have more popularity or brand power than several players on JAGW.

If you look at it from a team persective Maru did fine. WeSG may not have been a difficult tournament but it was still one of the biggest esport events of the year, with him representing both Jin Air + korea as a whole. Plus advertising to a chinese audience is good for Jin Air as they run flights between them (I believe?). And although he didn't make SSL playoffs, just being able to play live every week is good exposure for the team, considering only 10 players get that per season now

As far as the others guys go, you can't just replace players because they do better or worse for a season. Given the success of the big 3 it would make sense to keep them team as it is. The point of a team is to have a mixture of skill anyway to allow lesser players to practice and grow.
Zest, sOs, PartinG, Dark, and Maru are the real champs. ROOT_herO is overrated. Snute, Serral, and Scarlett are the foreigner GOATs

You can get stuff at the ESL shop (https://shop.eslgaming.com/collections/jin-air-green-wings). There's also some other places that sell Jin Air gear iirc.
