Hello everyone, we wanted to give a quick update on the season 2 map selection process. We have been reading the feedback from the Battle.net forums, Reddit, and Team Liquid and have decided to make a change to our plans for next season’s map pool. We agree that Paladino and Defender’s Landing share some similarities, and since map diversity is an important goal for us we have decided to cut Paladino from next season’s map pool. In replacing it, we didn’t want to put back any of the maps that we had planned on cutting, so instead we decided to pick a 5th map from the Team Liquid map making contest. We agree with the community that the map formerly known as Windwaker (which has been renamed Odyssey by the map maker) would make a solid addition.
With that substitution, next season’s map pool would look like this:
- Ascension to Aiur
- Sequencer
- Blood Boil
- Defender’s Landing
- Odyssey (previously known as Windwaker)
- Abyssal Reef
- Proxima Station
As always, your feedback is appreciated so let us know what you think.

Windwaker is a Zelda game (on GCN later remastered on Wii U), but not the Switch one, that would be Breath of the Wild.

I am not really happy with bloodboil.. that map was uh not my personal favorite* but I would love to see maps such as deadwing or paradise lost come in. Deadwing is such a spectacular 4 player map and some of the best games I have ever seen were on it and Paradise lost was the most relaxing map to both play and look at in TLMC8
(But for Dead wing some of those awesome games would be)

Game 2 Maru vs INnoVation (Jinair vs SKT T1) SPL 2015
Game 2 Maru vs Myungsik (Jinair vs Sbenu) SPL 2015
All of these are Terran games but I absolutely loved the map dead wing and I think the way it is structured it would work as a very good macro map in Legacy of the void

Spo brought back Overgrowth for SSL. It was chosen first in 2/5 series, 2nd in another and 3rd another time (4/5 total series). At the same time, Abyssal Reef was only chosen twice despite being far easier to practice on. Guess Blizzard knows something Spo doesn't by keeping the older maps out of the map pool, because to me it looks like the players really like the older more standard maps.

Windwaker name was changed because the mapper changed it, not because blizzard changed it. Did you guys even read the whole paragraph?

Still hoping to have Blood Boil replaced by Hwangsan. I also like the name change of Windwaker.

Yeah they realize Overgrowth has been on ladder for like 18 years total at this point.

Every map that's ever seen any significant play has had plenty of great games on it, even if it was overall crap or mediocre.
I agree that Blood Boil is not the greatest addition ever. Still, at least it has some interesting parts and isn't just bad AND boring.

Hwangsan is to good of a map to not include it in the mappool.

Hopefuly Blizzard won't forget that zerg needs 4 bases to play macro in LotV and also won't put more terran favored maps than we can veto.

Hey blizzard! How about diversity (*winks*)? 4-player maps are absent in your pool. While usually its 2 of them. You deny a lot of styles by that! How about unexpected nexuses/cc first? Hah? We all definitely want to see these strats as players AND spectators. Very bad of you! You should do something about that (*secretly hopes they will get rid of blood boil/proxima/defenders landing in favour of.. ANYTHING*).
p.s. what the f*** is that renaming? Windwaker sounded AWESOME! gawd....
edit: if you need a clue on what map to get rid of (in case you decide 4 player map is needed for... DIVERSITY). Remove the f**** proxima station. Everyone f***** hates it. Noone ever plays it.

Do they realize blue storm/fighting spirit w/e have been in every possible tournament mappool for 118 years ?
