Regardless of the situation, we will still action upon "dead game" comments. As this is a sensitive issue for SC2 fans, please do not come into this thread and talk about SC2 players switching over to BW. This thread is also not about bashing Blizzard, David Kim, or the WCS system. |

It's featured news, so nobody is trying to hide it. But due to the Road to BlizzCon articles it was indeed buried under all the awesomeness.

It was moved to Featured News because it needed more attention than just Community News. However, it coincided with BlizzCon preview release times so yes, it eventually ended up getting buried.

After all these years I still can't understand why leagues and tournament organisers don't allow crowdfunding... Is this a legal thing? A matter of pride?

Kim Chul Min does it for BW but I wish he got more support, he really needs it especially with the level of content hes already put up.

Yeah, it's good we have KCM showmatches, pity this edition has been postponed. But I was rather referring to larger events, such as those organised by Blizzard, KeSPA, Afreeca, SpoTV etc

Because offline leagues and tournaments of this magnitude (and even just your weekend events like DreamHack) cost a shit ton more than just the prize pool you see. Casters, production crew, tech crew, various other staff, venue (if they're not working out of their own studio). It's unrealistic to the point of being virtually impossible for a shrinking community like SC2's (which is probably at its lowest right now) to be able to come up with a significant fraction of those costs. It's orders of magnitude above getting MKP a flight to MLG (which incidentally happened while the scene was healthy and thriving and full of passionate people).

So... no help > a little help?

Let me put it this way. If a company decides an endeavour like this would lose them too much money to be worthwhile, any kind of crowdfunding from a community of this size would simply not be sufficient to make it worthwhile.
The "help" is so little when compared to the total cost of the operation that it practically doesn't matter.

Involving some sort of digital rewards for supporting tournaments would be a good way to draw people to such incentives, wouldnt it?
|
I'd be curious for *someone else* to figure out what such an event would cost, piece by piece, just to see if it would be feasible.

It's about time to implement some of the dota 2 compedium mechanics/funding through hats system into sc2.

I doubt we would get such conveniences for Korean tournaments after all that's happened recently. But I think Blizzard should consider those to keep WCS alive next year.

I would rather watch hours of tastosis explaining each other how star wars robots make anal sex work (or whatever weird stuff they come up with) then whatever rifkin thinks is a smart thought and says it out. The other girl seems way more professional when it comes to casting. Focuses way more on the game and brings insight however. Hope she has a bright future. I guess she is actually the reason Basetrade is a success. Not because she seems to know stuff, but also increases the channels "aesthetics" (which for sure some will find anti-feminist, or sexist or whatever, but it is the truth. Go ahead and ban me for saying it). I personally dislike Rifkin too, if I watch something casted on BaseTrade channel it's usually on mute. His taste and sense of humor is too much for me to handle EDIT: omg am I going to get banned? D: I don't think I got banned for saying the truth or an opinion (which, in my case, usually is the same), but because I asked for some time off

Opinion=empirically un-measurable sentiment, formulated by one individuals mind, usually emotionally or subjectively. Your statement, even if sarcastic, makes absolutely no sense.

maybe GSL become bigger again, maby with new team league and new teams...
and why blizzard makes starcraft 2 not free to play ?
i dont think that any one who realy loves starcraft didnt buy it jet, and maybe some new guys come in the game. (there is nothing to lose) but if nothing change sc2 will be smaller and smaller
sry for my bad english
|
I think there are a lot of people who love starcraft who didn't buy lotv, or hots, and probably also quite a bunch who never bought sc2/wol
|
As the long as the game is around, there will be people playing it, watching it, and supporting it. The decline of sc2 is kind of like leaving college. You lose a lot of "friends" but your true friends remain, and your life is no less meaningful (hopefully, haha).
