Regardless of the situation, we will still action upon "dead game" comments. As this is a sensitive issue for SC2 fans, please do not come into this thread and talk about SC2 players switching over to BW. This thread is also not about bashing Blizzard, David Kim, or the WCS system. |
It appears SC2 Proleague is coming to an end. The league ran from 2005-2016. Why did you include BW Proleague and call it a "league"? This is not correct since BW PL ended long ago and has nothing to do with SC2 PL. I feel angry since this is an attempt on making the subject more important than it is.

It's really dead, huh?
Both SC1&2 could have lasted longer had Kespa done something smart and long-term.
SC1: Reduce the number of matches. Viewers were getting too tired of 5 days a week BO 7 games. No entry reveal system. More focus on individual leagues. SC2: Teamleague system as opposed to prologue format SC1&SC2: No same race allowed to play on the same map twice in a row
But screw that. We had to make it easier for teams to practice and secure stable winning rate for good players rather than prioritizing viewers at the risk of having so many standardized games and mirror matchups.
That was royally stupid and short-sighted of Kespa.

Oh, please, we all know why BW PL was closed and it was certainly not because of Kespa. We could happily have both proleagues and nobody would get heartbroken.

Damn, this is sad news . What's the chance of BW HD actually releasing and bridging the old school BW and the SC2 communities?

Maybe they thought the gameplay just wasn't that appealing anymore with all the autocasting and noob patches?

OGN/Kespa acted smart. They simply switched to LoL instead of being fighting with blizzard/gom.

The common point between SC2 PL and SMITE league is: the proleague. Clearly, both games share the same universe and progamers to some extend but that's it. No, this looks like an attempt to drag BW into this and I don't like it, because SC2 was the reason why BW PL ended.

Were SC2's and SMITE's Proleague done by the same organization under the same banner?
One is the continuation of the other, you can't pretend they were unrelated. Even though the circumstances behind the transition were never good.

And still people continue to bash blizzard for not focusing on korean scene blah blah blah. Blizzards SC2 support was INSANE throughout the years for an exeption of may be 2016. That only proves it was an artificial life-support. The more people love and play the game -> the more money and viewers it attracts. Not the other way around.

Does the last paragraph of this article really say something about KeSPA and Blizzard promising to organize new tournaments for Korean SC2 in the future? Someone on reddit posted that but I'm weary of trusting what random people on the internet say.

Time to rebuild (>'.')> And if the scene can't fight through this, maybe it deserved to die :/

The sad thing is that enormous people following SC2 don't even touch the game. That's why things like that happen, competitive games are fueled by teenagers' interest, why would a kid play a 1v1 SC2 game instead of colorful game where you control one character and play with friends? BW was made big by people at school age.

I guess thats it for high lvl sc2. I hope many of the kr pros find new teams and success in OW.

According to their official statement on Facebook, they want to expand Kespa Cup and look at other options to support the remaining players.

Let's be positive about this: maybe some KeSPA pros will be able to attend Circuit events. Let's hope Blizzard opens the gates again to enable Korea to participate outside of Korea again.
It's sad to see such an institution close down. Proleague produced great games, a huge amount of entertainment and I absolutely loved it throughout the years. However, if there ain't money to earn, discontinuation is only a necessary consequence. With LotV, I got completely disconnected to StarCraft as I didn't like the gameplay at all. Given that the region lock made things even more uninteresting to me, I'm not as hurt as I thought I would be. Feels like an ex-girlfriend that I've already moved on from but who I still valued a lot is finally leaving my life :/.
Edit: Let's also be honest here: the strict KeSPA regiment always limited KR pros a bit. Proleague was very KR specific and only hard foreign fands would watch it - so maybe this is indeed just a turning point, a reorganisation of the korean scene, and not a dead body taking its last breath. Hope dies last!
