Turi does bring up an interesting point about decal sprays. If it has an effect on balance (e.g. hiding burrowed units) that might be enough to disallow it.

Skins that add visual confusion (ie. unit confusion) is also something that should be addressed.

I think in OW many tournaments banned the Hanzo skin with the white wolf skin because it made them hard to see on certain maps. Post patch I think Blizzard fixed it, but regardless these things should be taken into consideration.

Skins and sprays are great options to add flavour and variety to the game, but if it has even a small modicum of affect on balance/gameplay than we have to consider bans.

To those that think SC2 should focus on it's competitiveness and these fun options are useless, please just relax. You can't force your views on SC2 (or anything for that matter). If others feel it adds fun, don't be a Nazi and try to squash their fun.

Can't exactly see what's enthusiastic about those. Spraying decals is COMPLETE bullshit that really has no place in a game like StarCraft. It's neither creative nor useful, just bullshit. But maybe we should add further similar features into the game like a button on the command card to make fart noises with our workers or having a slot machine minigame inside the unit stat screen when highlighting our main buildings.

Complete bullshit? Are sprays complete bullshit? It's just something fun. God Forbid....

FUN!? NOT IN MY STARCRAFT!!

Yeah, people really need to realize that games are about having fun, not just about being competitive. These are all features that will be used in creative and maybe even useful ways. There will be highlights of these things being used in competitive games.

If you can't have fun just playing the game, you should probably seek for alternatives. For me personally, these features are not enhancing the fun of the game, because they don't add anything useful. If people don't enjoy the competitiveness of the game, they should go play other games, nothing wrong with that.

Wait what?
I should stop playing sc2 because i don't find the competitive aspect the most appealing to me??

Do you know about campaigns, co-op, 2v2, arcade, etc. ?

Honestly I'm just happy that blizzard keeps supporting heavily this game, we got sooo many new updates and upgrades this year (and relatively close to lotv release too!)

Well done, the voice packs are really nice and the skins too

So why not keep the "fun" things in campaign, co-op, arcade etc. OR just give people who don't like it the option to turn that shit off?

While I like the fun things, there should be an option to turn it off for people who don't want to see it. It's literally a win/win for everyone. I know I would turn off skins, always found the "new" ling skin annoying.

It's not a win for the purchaser of the skin. The entire point of it is for those type of customers to flaunt what they've bought. Which is why they dont let you shut off skins in any game that I'm aware of.

They can flaunt it on their screen. I want to see the default skin on my screen, because it's less ugly and more readable.

There are a few skins, like zerglings, that make it difficult to read how large of a group there actually is.

That is a problem.

Skins weren't banned from tournaments accidentally.

God forbid that a game should be fun, no it should be a unrelenting chore of improving your mechanics and using the only tactics that win a game.

My nephew plays DoTA2 a hell of a lot, and spends a lot of time with skins, purchases etc. It increases his enjoyment of the game.

What I read from your comment is that continuously spending money for cosmetics directly correlates to "fun" in a game and that's not how a game is supposed to work, the GAME should be fun, not buying stuff. In addition to that's totally uncomparable financial model, though, as Dota 2 is a F2P game whereas SC2 is not. If you could get skins by playing a lot and thus unlocking them without having to pay, it may be a different story, but I personally would just like to not have skins at all in this game.
Don't really get why SC2 has to be exactly as shitty in that regard as any other "popular" game is.

If you can only place one spray down wouldn't that give it away that your hiding something there though? I know if i saw a spray on the map randomly I'd zoom in to check for burrowed units.

As long as I dont have to see my opponents skins, they are fine. If I have to, fuck this then.

Still think the ability to spray decals is a bit strange. But you've got to love the enthusiasm surrounding those new features.

Because people want fun things in all aspects of the game, like every other competitive game on the market?

While I like the fun things, there should be an option to turn it off for people who don't want to see it. It's literally a win/win for everyone. I know I would turn off skins, always found the "new" ling skin annoying.

It's not a win for the purchaser of the skin. The entire point of it is for those type of customers to flaunt what they've bought. Which is why they dont let you shut off skins in any game that I'm aware of.

Why would the person purchasing a skin care if their opponent can see it or not? Do people really want skins just so their opponent can see it? I know if I wanted a cool skin I would want to see it, I could care less if my opponent can see my skin.

I don't see the harm in allowing it to be disabled and if someone buys a skin just so they can show it off to their opponent, well tough luck, they won't know if it's being shown or not anyway unless their opponent tells them.
When I think of something else, something will go here

There was poll here at TL.net in 2013 or 2014 about skins. It was that time when there was huge discussion about skins in SC2.
Anyways, question was something like do you care if opponent doesn't see your skins.
If I remember correctly ~65-70% said they dont care. Would be nice if somebody finds this poll.

But, I think nowadays less people would be okey with it.
Fusilero: "I still can't believe he did that, like dude what the fuck there's fandom and then there's what he did like holy shit. I still see it when I close my eyes." <- reaction to the original drunk santa post which later caught on
