I was plat last season and winning 70% of my games, playing mostly vs diamond players. It gave me plat 1 this season and I'm currently 3-25. The heck is going on, is it the new maps or did the plat league get that much better?

You're probably right on the cusp of Dia 3, and that's the problem with the old system wasn't it, sure those players had diamond boarders but who knows what their mmr was at the time. Unfortunately because your MMR didn't change with this update and it landed in plat 1 it's likely that your mmr was closer to mid to high plat and you were versing people who would be demoted or just getting heavily unfavoured matches and now it's high-plat1/low-dia3 ![]() edit:: Sorry If you're getting smashed now going 3-25, you're probably just hitting returning players with good skills but provisional mmrs, so it's not really plat getting better but versing opponents whose MMR's haven't settled. Plus everyone plays so tryhard/cheesy at the start of the season.

It did seem strange to me when I was vsing people with 300 apm.

My guess is that mainly lower player stopped between WoL and now. So the number of Master player should somehow remain constant in order for a master player to not get demoted just because he isn't in the top 2%. If the lower half just quit the game, the player would be top 4% and probably Diamond. So that enable the master player to stay master even in a smaller number of players. Making a bigger master league seems totally reasonable in that regard

Making a bigger master league seems totally reasonable in that regard Wouldn't the MMR population on higher MMR then be more dense than on lower MMR? Couldn't it be confirmed, by comparing the range of MMR for the higher leagues with the range from lower leagues? I.e. is the range of masters ~6 times smaller than the range of silver/gold/platinum/diamond or (much) smaller?

Despite Masters only having 4% of players, the range within masters is even bigger than the range in diamond with 20% players. Diamond has a slightly higher range than platinum, gold and silver, which have about the same range. That's to be expected though, as the maximum mmr probably keeps increasing and only few players can keep up, so the population density gets smaller, the higher the mmr. That's also a reason why a player staying on the same mmr should be demoted at some point, since the mmr of everyone else (who's active) around him should increase, so they deserve the e.g. master rank more.
