To be honest people are asking why, it isn't surprising that these things happen. Think logically, if you are a pro-gamer and you know eventually you have to go to the military, you know that eventually your skills will wane and eventually you will stop making money and have to go get a normal job/go to school...knowing all this someone offers you an obscene amount of money (it would have to be for a guy like Life) that would fix you up REAL good before eventually retiring, would you consider it? Okay I would like to say I would give them the middle finger, but lots of 0's on a figure can be super tempting... Well so is stealing money from old people and scaming with Nigeria-mails aswell. Does not justify it at all. Stop making up excuses like this, it is so bullshit. If Life have done what he is accused for he deserves to be put in jail. In no way did I justify his actions or make excuses. I stated why he would consider doing it. If he did it he can rot in jail just like people that steal from old people. I am not excusing his actions I am explaining why he might consider it. Well he needs air to breath and food to eat aswell. "He might had needed money so he match fixed" - isnt really a Sherlock-observation. But thanks for sharing. You're reacting very aggressively here. He's trying to explain why he did it, because at first sight it might be hard to understand why the greatest player to ever play the game and second in earning would matchfix. But I guess the very thought that we might do something else than blame someone who commited a crime is an awful offense to you. He is just guessing. I think everybody can come up with an idea why Life might have done it. Aliens might be threatening him. Perhaps he knows it will wake the dinosaurs to life. Stating he "might have dont it for the money" or "they might have threatned his daughter" or whatever. People saying "I dont understand how this could happend" do not littelarly mean "I cant come up with any reason what so ever why this would happend"... Neither are they asking for someone to guess why on earth it has happend. Well of course he's guessing, he's a human being. What's more, he's trying to guess logically, that is, he's trying to think. Don't you never try to think things? How do you explain the world that's around you, then?

At first i thought it was all a lie, "those guys saying he match-fixed should get a Life"
Then i got angry, i was hoping he would take a Life sentence for breaking the heart of the swarm.
I hoped Life would find a way, maybe he was innocent all along or maybe he did it under a Life threat.
After the confirmation i got sad, i felt like giving up on Life.
Now everything is clear, there is no Life left on this game.
So now i make jokes about it.

I believe that too. But we can never get a decisive proof about it.
I read in reddit that life has a gambling habit, can someone say more about it?

Do progamers get access to salary and prize money as minors? Somehow that strikes me as potentially unwise.

KT has been shaky recently, even getting an ex president getting arrested for embezzlement.

Unless they have their parents manage their money for them. Mostly though players just receive their salary and prize money and send money back to their parents to support their family.

If you work as a minor you also get your wages personally. Not getting access to the funds until you're 18 (which most pro players are anyway) won't make them more financially responsible. I guess you could make the case that team houses should teach the players to be more responsible with money since they drop out of school so young.

I fucking hate how people just assume this is all what went down.
This pitiful mentality of modern humans. So quick to just believe what the powers that be tell us and to witch hunt people, acting like they thoroughly understand a situation they don't know a jackfuck about.
Think about it. For all we know, the dark underworld of organized crime over there could have gangsters threatening and forcing players to fix matches. They could have so much power that they even control part of Kespa or certain police. People with power and money have been running the show since day one folks. Wake the fuck up. There's always more at play than what we're told from the media and the government. Always question what you hear and ponder the alternative possibilities. Now is it likely? Maybe not. We don't fucking know. Anybody claiming to who isn't directly involved in the business or the case doesn't know, and even they can stand to lose or gain something, so you can never know what they say is the truth.
Now, is it possible he did just match fix and that's it? Yes. We can't possibly know the truth. Even if they put convict him. Many innocent people have spent their lives indicted of something they didn't do.

But I don't get why it's illegal in Korea. Even though I dislike life the player and always rooted against him, it seems way too harsh to have him thrown in jail for losing at video games. Sure it ruins the integrity of the game, but at the end of the day it's just games played for entertainment. Why jail a kid for it Not trying hard is legal. Losing a game purposely is also legal. But if you get involved with crime organizations to purposely manipulate the outcome for gambling, then its illegal. The pressure from these gambling orgs is already very high despite the activity being punished. If they just let things roam free then we'll literally not have a single clean game in ProLeague.
Yeah but at the most, he should be banned from the game. But actual jail time? I understand that Korea makes gambling illegal, but I don't agree with that decision. Shouldn't ruin people's lives for it. Or if you are, go after the people who are setting up the matchfixing. Not the match fixers themselves. They're small fries making a living.

Don't you think they would do it less suspiciously in that case? At least make the transfer 1 month earlier or arrange the arrest 1 month later. If I was John KT, and I wanted to get rid of the rotten apple, I wouldn't do it days before the scandal because obviously everyone will think I knew.
I think it is just a coincidence. Or maybe it's just my inner fan denying the possibility.

I meant the hypothetical head man of KT. Replace with CEO or any other high figure from the company.
Edit: this "John X" thing comes from something we say in Argentina when we wanna talk about someone who we don't know their name but we know something about them. In those cases we refer such person with a very common first name ("John") and we use whatever we know about him as surname ("KT").
