Hello Folks -
Let's start this off with a disclaimer: No, I have not lost my passion and there is no negative/dramatic reason behind this happening. To be more specific: 1. I'm on great terms with BaseTradeTV. 2. I love StarCraft above all eSports. 3. Financially, the tournament is great. I upped the prize pool and doubled the monthly pot. I also started a new show. This has nothing to do with finances, passion, or anything else except what I believe to be the right move.
I started the Lycan League in February 2015. Since then, I have held 24 weekly events and four monthly finals. For those who don't know, the league has been sponsored by myself. While there were several times that money was tight for a month or two, money was never a factor in whether or not I would continue to run the Lycan League (especially now with my new job). At this time, I simply don't think running this event is serving the community anymore.
Why did I start the Lycan League?
Zotac pulled out of StarCraft II. I knew with a bit of budgeting I could afford to make a tournament to replace it. Yeah, I'd get a bit of recognition (which is always cool and I very much enjoy), but the recognition wasn't worth how much I had to tighten my belt. My biggest reason for doing this was that I genuinely felt I was giving something to the community when I launched the Lycan League.
Why am I stopping the Lycan League?
I no longer feel it's needed. There are so many weekly/monthly cups that are now operating on a regular basis and StarCraft II is far from dead when it comes to community run competitive content.
After I started the Evolution Chamber last week, I felt the same way I did when I started the Lycan League - a sense of pride and purpose. Evo Chamber makes me feel like I'm serving the community. The Lycan League, not so much. BaseTrade ran a few events during the time I took off from the Lycan League. They provided just as good a content as my league did, so between them and the new leagues, I don't feel like I'm leaving the scene in a bad place.
What next?
My ego aside, I think from Gosu Pizza to the Lycan League, I have proven my ability to come up with some pretty decent ideas. The $900 I'll spend on January's Lycan League will be used for other eSports projects. I plan to use this money to host a few show matches here and there, maybe invest in a Destiny I type tournament, or bring a new bit of content to fruition. This isn't the end of my contributions to the community. I'm simply taking a break with the intent to find a new, better project.

ya like there are like 6 weekly cups now and you starting lycan league really did help bring back weekly cups. I had a shit ton of fun playing in them even though they were on EU. Can't wait to see what else you come up with.

Thanks for what you did for the scene with the Lycan League. I wish you success in your next sc2 tournaments/shows/whateveryoudecidetodo.

I find your reason for stopping the league to be underwhelming. No one was as consistent as you are with your weekly cups and none of those cups got the same amount of exposure as yours. Like you said basetrade ran a *few* events while the lycan league was on break but it wasn't anything set in stone and it was nice to rely on the lycan cup being there every monday.

You never need to state a reason for stopping something that you've been doing out of good-will and because you yourself wanted to.
I hope your future projects goes well and thanks for the cups you did do which were all awesome ^_^ I've missed the evolution chamber but will try to check it out next time!

If you ever decide to start these or something similar again, anybody other than basetrade would be preferable. gl

He wasn't even ragging on him and Desrow ran his own weekly for a while as well, you shouldn't make such comments when you're that unaware...
Anyway thanks a lot for running the Lycan League it was exactly what was needed and I had a lot of fun watching them every week =)

I'm not trying to rag on him, I just find the reason to be underwhelming and was very excited to compete in his cups.
As for my weekly cups, the sponsor(an individual who had a lot of money to spend around) lost interest in SC2.

I think the fact that he had more exposure is more of a reason to pull back. Him putting the money out of his own pocket is not really sustainable, so I'd rather have another sponsor-based league having all that exposure.
Right now, the Lycan League is stopping the growth of other stuff, if it disappears something else will replace it now that it's proven there's an audience for it.
And if everything goes to shit I'm sure Lycan's erect penis will always be there for us to come back to.

desRow, I find the reason you stopped running a weekly tournament underwhelming.
Thanks for running the tournament out of you own pocket Lycan, the community (.....well me anyway...) appreciates it, even if some people are obnoxious and rude. $900 isn't a trivial amount of money to have to shell out on a monthly basis, unless your are desRow it seems.
