The WCS changes probably did push Fantasy to retire, since he's one of the few non-Koreans competing in the foreign circuit that isn't good enough to consistently qualify for GSL/SSL. The increased prizepool for lower finishes in GSL/SSL hopefully will still make most Korean pros better off under the new system.

Rain, PartinG, and Fantasy would be the top 16 from last year that would be the most affected. There's no more place for mid-tier koreans, without Kespa teams. PartinG might be next, if he can't get into GSL or SSL. Then Hyun and all the rest that can't get visas to play the WCS circuit.

I don't think he leaves because of your first sentence. This guy is so gifted about microing units, and LOTV is way more micro oriented than HOTS. As I read in a commentary "MediTank play" was made for him. After, the new WCS system is death for so many pro Koreans. Koreans tournaments (GSL, SSL) will be ridiculously hard, and foreign tournaments will be reserved for foreign scene. To this point, not a surprise at all that some pro koreans players decide to retire. ATM I am unable to hope some good things from the next SCII year ![]()

Sad to see them all go. Stork is already gone in a way now that he is part coach. JD is doing nothing (i think). Hope they can offer us a little more games before they go too.

The wcs system is bad for Koreans. At least we have more players like Lilbow who will be in the finals next year to show off the game while the most skilled players who make the game exciting to watch and inspire people to play are quitting. The numbers don't support the theory that Terrans are likely to retire. Terrans and Protosses have been retiring in almost even numbers during the last couple of months. Some notable Terrans retired (Flash, MMA, Fantasy), but notable Protoss players did that too (Rain, MC). WCS - yep, this could be a factor. Quite depends on what the Korean scene can offer this year besides GSL/SSL/SPL.

Cause if in regards to balance the Terran/Protoss retired, the Zerg would be less likely to retire. Though Terran seems to be doing decently well versus Zerg, so who knows? Also....is MC actually retired? At Homestory, they said he still plays a several hours a day.

Zerg won 8 with 9 second place finishers. So to say that 90% of the tournaments were won by the two other races is completely false because two races should win more than one race, and Terran won three less than Protoss. I agree, i had the numbers wrong: I meant that most terrans dropped out prematurely (or whatever the term is) like we had 2-3x RO16 with 1-2 Terrans in GSL and other tourneys. That there still was a terran victory is basically even more proof how great these players (Taeja, Flash...) were

Quite depends on what the Korean scene can offer this year besides GSL/SSL/SPL. MC has been semi retired for a while now. Rain retired because of a unique situation with his father. MMA and Fantasy were pushed out because of the WCS changes. I think Flash retired because he's never liked SC2 as much as BW and he didn't like the direction that Blizzard took with Terran in SC2. Flash isn't that old, was on a Kespa team, and was still one of the better Terran's, so the timing of his retirement says to me that he didn't like the game very much.
